In this paper, wind tunnel experiments were conducted to measure the mean force coefficients and Strouhal numbers for three circular cylinders of equal diameters in an equilateral-triangular arrangement when subjected to a cross-flow. These experiments were carried out at five subcritical Reynolds numbers ranging from 1.26 × 104 to 6.08 × 104. The pressure distributions on the surface of the cylinders were measured using pressure transducers. Furthermore, the hot-wire anemometer was employed to measure the vortex shedding frequencies behind each cylinder. Six spacing ratios (l/d) varying from 1.5 to 4 were investigated. It is observed that for l/d > 2, the upstream cylinder experiences a lower mean drag coefficient compared with the downstream cylinders. The minimum values of the drag coefficient for the downstream cylinders occur at l/d = 1.5 and l/d = 2, because there is no vortex shedding from the foregoing cylinders. Also, the value of the pressure coefficient behind the upstream cylinder reduces by increasing l/d. Moreover, by decreasing the value of l/d, the Strouhal number for the upstream cylinder increases. It can be concluded that the flow pattern and aerodynamic coefficients are basically dependent on l/d; in other words, decreasing l/d results in an increase in the effects of the flow interference between the cylinders.  相似文献

The capacitated $p$ -median problem (CPMP) is one of the well-known facility-location problems. The objective of the problem is to minimize total cost of locating a set of capacitated service points and allocating a set of demand points to the located service points, while the total allocated demand for each service point is not be greater than its capacity limit. This paper presents an efficient heuristic algorithm based on the local branching and relaxation induced neighborhood search methods for the CPMP. The proposed algorithm is a heuristic technique that utilizes a general mixed integer programming solver to explore neighborhoods. The parameters of the proposed algorithm are tuned by design of experiments. The proposed method is tested on a large set of benchmark instances. The results show that the method outperforms the best method found in the literature.  相似文献

This article addresses a new modified honey bee mating optimization namely multiobjective honey bee mating optimization (MOIHBMO) based fuzzy multiobjective methodology for optimal locating and parameter setting of unified power flow controller (UPFC) in a power system for a long‐term period. One of the profits obtained by UPFC placement in a transmission network is the reduction in total generation cost due to its ability to change the power flow pattern in the network. Considering this potential, UPFC can be also used to remove or at least mitigate the congestion in transmission networks. The other issue in a power system is voltage violation which could even render the optimal power flow problem infeasible to be solved. Voltage violation could be also mitigated by proper application of UPFC in a transmission system. These objectives are considered simultaneously in a unified objective function for the proposed optimization algorithm. At first, these objectives are fuzzified and designed to be comparable against each other and then they are integrated and introduced to a MOIHBMO method to find the solution which maximizes the value of integrated objective function in a 3‐year planning horizon, considering the load growth. A power injection model is adopted for UPFC. Unlike, the most previous works in this field the parameters of UPFC are set for each load level to avoid inconvenient rejection of more optimal solutions. This study proposes two derivative-free approaches for solving systems of large-scale nonlinear equations, where the underlying functions of the systems are continuous and satisfy a monotonicity condition. First, the framework generates a specific direction then employs a backtracking line search along this direction to construct a new point. If the new point solves the problem, the process will be stopped. Under other circumstances, the projection technique constructs an appropriate hyperplane strictly separating the current iterate from the solutions of the problem. Then the projection of the new point onto the hyperplane will determine the next iterate. Thanks to the low memory requirement of derivative-free conjugate gradient approaches, this work takes advantages of two new derivative-free conjugate gradient directions. Under appropriate conditions, the global convergence result of the recommended procedures is established. Preliminary numerical results indicate that the proposed approaches are interesting and remarkably promising.  相似文献

An adaptive quadtree grid generation algorithm is developed and applied for tracer and multiphase flow in channelized heterogeneous porous media. Adaptivity was guided using two different approaches. In the first approach, wavelet transformation was used to generate a refinement field based on permeability variations. The second approach uses flow information based on the solution of an initial-time fine-scale problem. The resulting grids were compared with uniform grid upscaling. For uniform upscaling, two commonly applied methods were used: renormalization upscaling and local-global upscaling. The velocities obtained by adaptive grid and uniformly upscaled grids, were downscaled. This procedure allows us to separate the upscaling errors, on adaptive and uniform grids, from the numerical dispersion errors resulting from solving the saturation equation on a coarse grid. The simulation results obtained by solving on flow-based adaptive quadtree grids for the case of a single phase flow show reasonable agreement with more computationally demanding fine-scale models and local-global upscaled models. For the multiphase case, the agreement is less evident, especially in piston-like displacement cases with sharp frontal movement. In such cases a non-iterative transmissibility upscaling procedure for adaptive grid is shown to significantly reduce the errors and make the adaptive grid comparable to iterative local-global upscaling. Furthermore, existence of barriers in a porous medium complicates both upscaling and grid adaptivity. This issue is addressed by adapting the grid using a combination of flow information and a permeability based heuristic criterion.  相似文献

In the present contribution we propose an improved mixed least-squares finite element method (LSFEM) and compare it with standard LSFEMs with respect to performance aspects. In detail, we consider an approach for Newtonian fluid flow, which is described by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The basis for the associated symmetric minimization problem is a reduced stress-velocity (s-v) two-field approach, see e.g. CAI ET AL. [1] and SCHWARZ & SCHRÖDER [2]. The main idea for the proposed formulation is to add an additional equation, which yields an overconstrained first-order system. This approach does not introduce additional unknowns, so the advantage of two variables (stresses and velocities) remains. This paper concerns with a new nonmonotone strategy and its application to the line search approach for unconstrained optimization. It has been believed that nonmonotone techniques can improve the possibility of finding the global optimum and increase the convergence rate of the algorithms. We first introduce a new nonmonotone strategy which includes a convex combination of the maximum function value of some preceding successful iterates and the current function value. We then incorporate the proposed nonmonotone strategy into an inexact Armijo-type line search approach to construct a more relaxed line search procedure. The global convergence to first-order stationary points is subsequently proved and the R-linear convergence rate are established under suitable assumptions. Preliminary numerical results finally show the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed approach for solving unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems.  相似文献

We consider an efficient trust-region framework which employs a new nonmonotone line search technique for unconstrained optimization problems. Unlike the traditional nonmonotone trust-region method, our proposed algorithm avoids resolving the subproblem whenever a trial step is rejected. Instead, it performs a nonmonotone Armijo-type line search in direction of the rejected trial step to construct a new point. Theoretical analysis indicates that the new approach preserves the global convergence to the first-order critical points under classical assumptions. Moreover, superlinear and quadratic convergence are established under suitable conditions. Numerical experiments show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving unconstrained optimization problems.  相似文献
