Synthesis of pyridinium ylide complexes of methylcobaloxime and crystal structure determination of [benzoyl(1-pyridinio)methanide]bis(dimethylglyoximato)methylcobalt benzene solvate

Summary Pyridinium ylide complexes of methylcobaloxime were synthesized by the treatment of an ylide with Co(Hdmg)₂ Me(SMe₂). The crystal structure of one of the complexes, [Co(Hdmg)₂Me C₅H₅NCHCOPh]C₆H₆ has been determined by x-ray diffraction techniques. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, witha = 10.456(5),b = 11.079(4),c = 24.58(1) Å, = 99.58(6), V = 2808 ų, Z = 4. The Co-C (ylide) bond distance is 2.18 Å and Co-C(methyl) 2.04 Å. C(ylide)-Co-C(methyl) bond angle is 174.9°. The crystal, i.r. and¹H n.m.r. data suggest that thetrans-influence of the ylide ligands is larger than that of py, Melm, OH₂ or PPh₃.     

Gelation in free-radical terpolymerization of poly(allyl methacrylate) crosslinked polymer nanosphere with allyl benzoate and vinyl benzoate

Microgel-like poly(allyl methacrylate) (PAMA nanosphere) was prepared by the emulsion polymerization of AMA as the reactive crosslinked polymer nanosphere with abundant pendant allyl groups. The terpolymerization of PAMA nanosphere with allyl benzoate (ABz) and vinyl benzoate (VBz) was conducted in bulk using benzoyl peroxide as initiator at 80 °C. The gelation depended on the feed ABz/VBz molar ratio since the molecular weights of resulting poly(ABz-co-VBz)s that act as the bridges increased with an increase in the mole fraction of VBz in the feed monomer. Beyond the gel point, the sol was rapidly incorporated into the gel and the increasing tendency of the gel fraction became steeper from 70 to 95 mol% of VBz as a reflection of increased chain length of bridge between PAMA nanospheres. Moreover, the swelling ratio became lower with increasing the mole percentage of VBz in the feed monomer. These results would support the preferential incorporation of PAMA nanosphere into the gel and the longer bridge can capture more nanospheres to give a much shrunken gel.

Breviones A∼E (1∼5), allelopathic agents isolated from Penicillium brevicompactum Dierckx, are structurally unique pentacyclic or hexacyclic diterpenoid derivatives. The first synthesis of brevione B (2) was achieved by employing the double S_N2′-type tandem reaction as a key step.     

Studies on analgesic oligopeptides. VI. Further studies of synthesis and biological properties of tripeptide alkylamides, Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-X

Nine analogs based on a structure of Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-X (X = alkylamides or alkylhydrazide containing electron-withdrawing atoms or groups) were newly synthesized and their biological properties were examined by the opioid receptor binding properties of mu-, delta- and kappa-receptors, guinea-pig ileum (GPI) assay and analgesic activity in the tail pinch test after subcutaneous administration in mice. Analogs with X = NHCF2CF3, Sar-ol, or NH(CH2)2CN showed potent activities in the GPI and analgesic assays and high affinity for mu-receptor. An analog with X = taurinamide was found to possess 4-fold higher mu-receptor selectivity than that of [D-Ala2, MePhe4, Gly-ol5]enkephalin (DAGO). The receptor binding properties of previously reported analogs [Chem. Pharm. Bull., 33, 1528 (1985); ibid., 33, 4865 (1985); ibid., 36, 4834 (1988)] were also examined for overall discussion of the structure-activity relationships of this series of tripeptide amides.     

Diastereoselective addition of organolithiums to 1,3-oxazolidines complexed with aluminum tris(2,6-diphenylphenoxide) (ATPH)

1,3-Oxazolidines were easily obtained by condensation of N-substituted (R)-phenylglycinol with aldehydes. Addition of organolithium reagents to 1,3-oxazolidines by complexation with the bulky Lewis acid aluminum tris(2,6-diphenylphenoxide) (ATPH) readily produced the corresponding chiral amines with good yield and high diastereoselectivity. The configuration of the new stereogenic center was shown to be opposite to that of adducts obtained for the same 1,3-oxazolidines using Grignard reagents. The best diastereoselectivity was achieved using N-isopropyl-1,3-oxazolidines. The mechanism of addition was deduced by determining the stereochemistry of the iminium-aluminum complex by NOE experiments.     

Facilitated phosphatidylserine flip-flop across vesicle and cell membranes using urea-derived synthetic translocases

Tris(2-aminoethyl)amine derivatives with appended urea and sulfonamide groups are shown to facilitate the translocation of fluorescent phospholipid probes and endogenous phosphatidylserine across vesicle and erythrocyte cell membranes. The synthetic translocases appear to operate by binding to the phospholipid head groups and forming lipophilic supramolecular complexes which diffuse through the non-polar interior of the bilayer membrane.

On the Phosphidation of Nickel by Phosphorus Trichloride The phosphidation of nickel sheets by phosphorus trichloride vapor of 30 and 50 Torr has been studied kinetically by gravimetric means in the temperature range of 400–650°C in hydrogen atmosphere. The phosphidation proceeded generally according to the parabolic rate law. The parabolic rate constant increased with an increase of temperature, and its temperature dependence yielded the activation energies of about 33 and 47 kcal/mole for 400–550 and 550–650°C, respectively. X-ray and electron microprobe analyses showed that surfaces of the specimens phosphidized are made up of mixtures of Ni₂P and Ni₆P₅, and that at the phosphide/metal interface the compound Ni₂P is formed. The experiments using argon as carrier gas resulted in the formation of both the phosphides and the chlorides, and this fact could be explained in terms of thermodynamics.     

Polycyclic N-hetero compounds. XXVII. Synthesis and investigation of the antidepressive activity of a B-Homo-11,13,15-triazasteroid and its related compoundsd

A synthesis of 1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-4H-benzo[3,4]cyclohepta[1,2-e]imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine (XII) having a novel ring system is described. Antidepressive activity of XII and its precursors VII-X was screened by inhibitory action of reserpine-induced hypothermia.     

Quantitative estimation of interaction between carbohydrates and concanavalin A by surface plasmon resonance biosensor

We measured the affinity of more than 20 sugars with concanavalin A (ConA) by an optical biosensor (surface plasmon resonance sensor) using asialofetuin (ASF) as an immobilized binding partner of ConA. We determined kinetic parameters of the effects of sugars on the dissociation of ConA from ASF quantitatively, and the structural requirements of the functional groups of sugars for binding with ConA. We found that the affinity of ConA for sugars is dependent on its conformation induced by interaction with the binding partner. In addition, the results showed that optical biosensor system is well mimics the interaction of ConA with sugars in biomembrane.
