The stereochemistry of 4-methyl-6-phenyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-1,3,2,6-dioxathiazocine 2-oxides using NMR

Two isomeric 4-methyl-6-phenyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-1,3,2,6-dioxathiazocine 2-oxides were prepared, and their pmr and cmr spectra were examined. From the aromatic solvent shielding values and the magnitudes of the γ shifts, the title compounds are found to exist in the trans and cis forms in solution.     

A stereoselective synthesis of “natural” (4S,6S,7S)-serricornin,the sex pheromone of cigarette bettle,from levoglucosenone

The natural stereoisomer of serricornin was synthesized stereoselectively from levoglucosenone. This firmly established the absolute stereochemistry of serricornin to be 4S,6S,7S. A short synthesis of (?)-δ-multistriatin was also reported.     

An intramolecular diels-alder approach to quassinoids—a stereoselective construction of a-aromatic klaineanone

Thermolysis of a benzocyclobutene derivative ($\text{20}$) prepared from norcamphor produced stereoselectively a tetracyclic compound ($\text{2}$), which was converted to a lactone ($\text{21}$) having correct stereochemistry at C₇, C₈, C₉, C₁₁, C₁₃, and C₁₄ positions of (±)-klaineanone.     

Mass spectral fragmentations of 6-aryl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-1,3,2,6-dioxathiazocine 2-Oxides

The mass spectral fragmentation of 4-, 5-, and 4,8-disubstituted derivatives of 6-aryl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-1,3,2,6-dioxathiazocine 2-oxides is reported.     

Synthesis of 2,6-disubstituted pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]oxazines

A new preparative method for pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]oxazines from 6-substituted 3-nitro-2-pyridones is demonstrated. This method consists of two steps: O-alkylation and reductive cyclization. In the former step, the bulkiness of both starting nitropyridones and C2 reagents is found to be essential for avoiding N-alkylation, which undergoes O-alkylation efficiently. The subsequent reductive cyclization affords pyridoxazines with carbon substituents at both the 2- and the 6-positions that have not been available.     

Size‐Dependence of the Activity of Gold Nanoparticle‐Loaded Titanium(IV) Oxide Plasmonic Photocatalyst for Water Oxidation

Mesoporous TiO₂ nanocrystalline film was formed on fluorine‐doped tin oxide electrode (TiO₂/FTO) and gold nanoparticles (NPs) of different sizes were loaded onto the surface with the loading amount kept constant (Au/TiO₂/FTO). Visible‐light irradiation (λ>430 nm) of the Au/TiO₂/FTO photoanode in a photoelectrochemical cell with the structure of photoanode|0.1 m NaClO4 aqueous solution|Ag/AgCl (reference electrode)|glassy carbon (cathode) leads to the oxidation of water to oxygen (O₂). We show that the visible‐light activity of the Au/TiO₂/FTO anode increases with a decrease in Au particle size (d) at 2.9≤d≤11.9 nm due to the enhancement of the charge separation and increasing photoelectrocatalytic activity.     

Adduct formation properties of mono- and bidentate phosphine oxide compounds in the liquid—liquid extraction of some divalent metals with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone

The bidentate phosphine oxide compounds bis(diphenylphosphinyl)methane (BDPPM) and bis(diphenylphosphinyl)ethane (BDPPE) were synthesized and the liquid—liquid extraction equilibria of some divalent metal ions such as Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone (HPMBP) and the neutral phosphine oxide compounds were investigated. BDPPM was found to be much more powerful than BDPPE and the monodentate neutral ligand trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO). The composition of the extracted species were determined by a graphical method to be M(PMBP)₂(TOPO)_s (s = 2 for Co, Ni, Cd and s = 1 for Zn), M(PMBP)₂(BDPPM) and M(PMBP)₂(BDPPE). The adduct formation constants between the acylpyrazolone chelates and the neutral ligands were determined and are discussed in terms of the molecular structure.
