Semidifferential electroanalysis with a solid working electrode

Semidifferential electroanalysis is described for hexacyanoferrate(III), dichromate, copper(II), p-aminophenol, p-benzoquinone, m-dinitrobenzene, guanine, guanosine, adenine, and adenosine at a stationary solid working electrode. Nearly symmetrical, peaked curves are obtained for the electrode processes of all the samples investigated. The predicted dependence of peak height and peak potential on concentration, electrode area, and potential scan rate are confirmed-experimentally for the glassy carbon disk electrode. It is demonstrated that the technique with the solid working electrode provides higher sensitivity and better resolution than ordinary linear sweep voltammetry. The sensitivity is somewhat worse than in differential pulse voltammetry, but the technique has the advantage of Speed.     

Synthesis of novel organoselenium as catalyst for Baeyer-Villiger oxidation with 30% H2O2

A novel diselenide was synthesized in good yield via only four steps from phenol, and was employed as the catalyst for the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation with 30% H₂O₂ to obtain lactones in good yields.     

Surface effects on phase transition behavior and thermal polymerization of long-chain diynoic acids in micro DSC measurements

Effects of metal surfaces, such as aluminium, silver and gold, on the melting behavior and thermal polymerization of long-chain diynoic acids having a diacetylene group at different positions were investigated by thermal analyses using DSC, TG and other methods. The surface effects of metals were significant in the order of Ag, Al and Au. These effects are attributable to the anchoring of carboxyl group on the surface by chemisorption, which leads to unfavorable condition for polymerization of heptadeca-2,4-diynoic acid. In the case of tricosa-10,12-diynoic acid, containing a flexible methylene chain, inserted between COOH and C≡C?C≡C groups, the anchoring of COOH on the metal surface causes rather favorable effect on the polymerization.     

Novel synthesis of macrocycles with 1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-diol using intramolecular oxidative coupling

A new series of BINOL-based macrocycles with two phenolic protons have been synthesized via oxidative coupling reaction using CuCl(OH)-TMEDA.     

Frequency measuring system using mirror gap stabilized Fabry-Perot interferometer

The mirror gap of a Fabry-Perot interferometer was stabilized with two laser diodes; one locked to the line frequency 385,243,555.14445 MHz of the F=3<--1 in 5D(3/2)<--5S(1/2) (87Rb) and the other to the 385,284,566.3663 MHz of the F=4<--2 in 5D(5/2)<--5S(1/2) (87Rb) [Opt. Commun. 102 (1993) 432]. The length of the mirror gap was adjusted to generate the zero-cross points simultaneously at both of the two line positions. The fringe signals obtained from an interferometer thus stabilized can be used as frequency markers having accuracies of the order of 10(10) depending on the finesse of the interferometer used. Based on measurement using Cs D1 hyperfine lines reported by Udem et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82 (1999) 3568], the uncertainty of markers in the region 50 THz apart from the reference lines is +/- 5 MHz.
