Evaluation of effects of novel urease inhibitor, N-(pivaloyl)glycinohydroxamic acid on the formation of an infection bladder stone using a newly designed urolithiasis model in rats

By using our new infection stone model of a rat, we evaluated the effect of a novel urease inhibitor, N-(pivaloyl)glycinohydroxamic acid (P-GHA), on the formation of an infection bladder stone. The oral dosing of P-GHA significantly inhibited the elevation of the urinary ammonia level of rats having the urinary tract infection with Proteus mirabilis. A short term regimen (7 d, 730 +/- 38 mg/kg) with P-GHA significantly inhibited the development of the infection bladder stone. Furthermore, a long term combination regimen (11 d) of P-GHA and aminobenzylpenicillin markedly inhibited the development of the infection bladder stone, and also caused a very slight renal impairment to the rats tested in contrast with the method of Vermeulen et al. Our infection stone model in rats, therefore, seems to be useful for the evaluation of therapeutic agents in long term examinations.     

Total reactivity of pyridine and quinoline via the reactions of arylbenzoates with hydroxide ion. Apparent substituent constants for some N-heteroaromatic groups

A new set of apparent σ values was evaluated for the aza substitution of all positions in pyridyl and quinolyl groups on the basis of the alkaline hydrolysis of aryl benzoates. The enhanced reactivities of 4-pyridyloxy- and 4-quinolyloxy- groups were first estimated quantitatively.     

Anisotropic Fermi-liquid behavior of the Ce-Si system

A single crystal of CeSi_1.86 was obtained and the electrical resistivity and the paramagnetic susceptibility were measured. Both quantitities show Fermi-liquid behavior at low temperatures. Of particular interest is the appreciable anisotropy exhibited by the two quantities, which is tentatively attributed to the crystal field effect.

Synthesis of bicyclo[6.2.2] bridgehead dienes

Bicyclo[6.2.2]dodecadienes ($\text{2}$), ($\text{3a}$), and ($\text{3b}$) having two bridgehead double bonds were synthesized by the pyrolysis of the acetate ($\text{1}$).     

Palladium-catalyzed dehydroarylation of triarylmethanols and their coupling with unsaturated compounds accompanied by C-C bond cleavage

Triarylmethanols are effectively dehydroarylated and reacted with some unsaturated compounds by using an appropriate palladium catalyst system such as Pd(OAc)2-P(1-Nap)3 (1-Nap = 1-naphthyl) to give the corresponding arenes and hydroarylation products, respectively, along with diaryl ketones.
