Abstract— Trans-urocanic acid (UCA) is found in the upper layer of the skin and UV irradiation induces its photoisomerization to cis -UCA. Cis -UCA mimics some of the immunosuppressive properties of UV exposure. The wavelength dependence for in vitro photoisomerization of trans-UCA (15 μM) over the spectral range 250 nm-340 nm (10 nm intervals) was determined. The action spectrum revealed that maximal cis-UCA production occurred at 280 nm, which is red-shifted by 10-12 nm from its absorption peak at 268 nm and differs markedly from the reported action spectra for cis-UCA production in mouse skin in vivo , which peaks at 300-310 nm. The reasons for the red shift between the in vitro and in vivo action spectra are not clear. There is limited evidence suggesting that the UV absorption maximum of trans- UCA red shifts from 268 nm in vitro to 310 nm on interaction with stratum corneum proteins in vivo. This phenomenon was investigated by applying trans-UCA (2.5 mg/cm2) in an oil emulsion to isolated human stratum corneum. After incubation at 37°C for 1 h, the absorption spectra of stratum corneum with UCA and with oil only were compared using a Xe arc source and a spectrora-diometer. A moderate red shift in trans-UCA absorption from ∼268 nm to 280 nm was observed. In summary, we suggest that the 10-12 nm red shift between the UCA absorption spectrum peak and the action spectrum peak in vitro may be accounted for by the wavelength dependence of quantum yields reported over the 254-313 nm range. The red shift between the in vitro and in vivo photoisomerization action spectra may result from the 10 to 12 nm red shift in the absorption of UCA in association with stratum corneum proteins, combined with increasing quantum yields over the 254-313 nm range.  相似文献

Experimental solubilities are reported for benzil dissolved in six binary mixtures containing dibutyl ether with hexane, heptane, octane, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, and 2,2,4-trimethylpentane at 25°C. Results of these measurements are compared to the predictions of equations developed previously for solubility in systems of nonspecific interactions. The most successful equation in terms of goodness of fit involved a volume fraction average of the excess Gibbs energies relative to the Flory-Huggins model, and predicted the experimental solubilities in the six systems studied to within an overall average absolute deviation of 3.4% and with a maximum deviation of 6.0%.  相似文献

We previously showed that in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), poly(9‐anthracenylmethyl methacrylate) (PAMMA) and poly(2‐naphthylmethacrylate) selectively disperse semiconducting and metallic single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), respectively. We have also proposed a new noncovalent polymer interaction based on photon induced dipole–dipole interaction to account for the metallicity‐based selectivity. In this article, we investigate two other polymethacrylates, that is, poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PBMA) and poly(methylmethacrylate)‐co‐(9‐anthracenylmethyl acrylate) (PMMA‐c‐PAMA) in the light of our previously proposed photon‐induced dipole–dipole interaction. We find that PBMA and PMM‐c‐PAMMA in DMF show no metallicity selectivity. The different selective behavior of the four polymers in DMF manifests the decisive influence of the side aromatic group in determining their metallicity selectivity. The nonpreferential energy transfer from PMMA‐c‐PAMA to SWNTs and the nonoverlap of PBMA fluorescence (in the ultraviolet range) with nanotube absorption account for their nonselectivity of specific nanotube species. Further, the parallel relationship between the diameters of extracted tube species and the affinity between polymers and solvents suggests the leading role of the polymeric conformation on the diameter selectivity. A sufficient (i.e., 2 weeks) standing time of the SWNTs solution after sonication, during which the polymers presumably optimize their conformation to the SWNTs, was found to be essential to the enrichment. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We studied speciation of the mixed-ligand complex formation equilibria of vanadium(III) with both 2,2??-bipyridine (Bipy) and the amino acids glycine (HGly), proline (HPro), ??-alanine (H??Ala), and ??-alanine (H??Ala) by means of electromotive forces measurements emf(H) using 3.0?mol?dm?3 KCl as the ionic medium at 25 °C. The experimental data were analyzed by means of the computational least-squares program LETAGROP, taking into account the hydrolysis of the vanadium(III) cation, the respective stability constants of the binary complexes, and the acid/base reactions of the ligands which were kept fixed during the analysis. In all four amino acid systems studied we observed the complexes [V2O(Bipy)(B)]3+, [V2O(Bipy)2(B)2]2+, [V(OH)(Bipy)(B)2] and [V(OH)2(Bipy)(B)], where B represents the deprotonated form of the amino acids studied in this work. The respective stability constants were determined and the species distribution diagrams as a function of pH are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The nucleophilic opening of epoxides by nitrile enolates using an efficient, convenient protocol is described. The diastereoselectivity of this reaction was explored and found to give syn:anti ratios ranging from 1.1:1.0 to 4.8:1.0.

Current doctrine states that phosphorus is incorporated into cells in the pentavalent(V) oxidation state as orthophosphate. However, recent studies show that microorganisms contain enzymes used to metabolize reduced forms of phosphorous, including phosphite(III) and hypophosphite(I), which suggests that there is a natural source for these chemical species. This paper will discuss suppressed conductivity ion chromatography methods developed to detect hypophosphite, phosphite, and orthophosphate in a geothermal water matrix containing fluoride, chloride, bromide, nitrate, hydrogen carbonate and sulfate. All peaks were clearly resolved, and calibrations were linear with estimated 3sigma detection limits of 0.83, 0.39, and 0.35 microM for hypophosphite, phosphite, and orthophosphate, respectively.  相似文献

Microcionamides A (1) and B (2) have been isolated from the Philippine marine sponge Clathria (Thalysias) abietina. These new linear peptides are cyclized via a cystine moiety and have their C-terminus blocked by a 2-phenylethylenamine group. Their total structures, including absolute stereochemistry, were determined by a combination of spectral and chemical methods. Compound 1 was shown to slowly isomerize about the C-36/C-37 double bond when stored in DMSO. Microcionamides A (1) and B (2) exhibited significant cytotoxicity against the human breast tumor cells lines MCF-7 and SKBR-3 and displayed inhibitory activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H(37)Ra.  相似文献
