Allometry is crucial in biology; scaling relations are implied in laws of growth of living systems. The self similarity of Gompertzian growths of biological organisms plays a key role, in this regard, in biological similitude. The origin of allometric relationships and values of the scaling exponents is a source of debate, as well as the origin of the range of biological scales. But, besides biology, scaling and growth characterize many different complex systems. Encompassing these aspects in a unified view is an interesting target. In this paper we propose a coarse but significant model that is applied to astrophysical structures and biological organisms. The inclusion of such different systems suggests applications to fields where allometry is emerging, such as economics, urban planning and the social sciences. 相似文献

Anchoring terminal octenyl tails on molecular polyoxotungstates yield polymerizable organic–inorganic monomers with formula [{CH2?CH(CH2)6Si}xOySiWwOz]4? [x=2, w=11, y=1, z=39 ( 1 ); x=2, w=10, y=1, z=36 ( 2 ); and x=4, w=9, y=3, z=34 ( 3 )]. These molecular hybrids can use aqueous hydrogen peroxide to catalyze the selective oxidation of organic sulfides in CH3CN. Copolymerization of 1 – 3 with methyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate leads to porous materials with a homogeneous distribution of the functional monomers, as indicated by converging evidence from FTIR spectroscopy and electronic microscopy. The catalytic polymers activate hydrogen peroxide for oxygen transfer, as demonstrated by the quantitative and selective oxidation of methyl p‐tolyl sulfide, which was screened as model substrate. The hybrid material containing monomer 2 was also tested in n‐octane to evaluate its potential for the oxidation and removal of dibenzothiophene, a well‐known gasoline contaminant. 相似文献

A detailed analysis of the causative toxins contained in the hepatopancreas of toxic mussels from the northern Adriatic sea has been carried out. Along with some DSP (diarrhetic shellfish poisoning) type toxins, such as okadaic acid, yessotoxin, and their derivatives, which are involved in a number of human intoxications throughout the world, we have now isolated a new cytotoxin, a polychlorinated sulfolipid 1, whose gross structure has been elucidated by spectral analysis, including various 2D NMR techniques. The relative stereochemistry of 1 was elucidated by successful application of the J-based configuration analysis developed for acyclic compounds using carbon-proton spin-coupling constants ((2,3)J(C,H)) and proton-proton spin-coupling constants ((3)J(H,H)); its absolute stereochemistry was established by the Mosher method. The essential oils of Hypericum perforatum, H. perfoliatum and H. hircinum, growing in Southern Italy, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. In the three oils, 111 compounds in all were identified: 53 for the oil of H. hircinum (93.7% of the total oil), 55 for H. perforatum (96.5% of the total oil) and 63 for H. perfoliatum (98.7% of the total oil). The major fraction of the essential oils of H. perforatum and H. hircinum was represented by sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, while the monoterpene alpha-pinene, and the phenol thymol were the most abundant compounds in the essential oil of H. perfoliatum. The oils were evaluated for their potential in vitro phytotoxic activity against germination and early radicle elongation of Raphanus sativus and Lepidium sativum. The germination of this latter was significantly inhibited by the essential oil of H. hircinum, at the highest doses tested, whereas radicle elongation of garden cress was significantly inhibited by the essential oils of H. perfoliatum and H. hircinum. The radicle elongation of radish was inhibited by the essential oil of H. hircinum to a major extent and by H. perforatum and perfoliatum in a minor measure. 相似文献

Since 2005, the benthic dinoflagellate Ostreopsis cf. ovata has bloomed across the Mediterranean basin, provoking serious toxic outbreaks. LC/MS studies have identified a number of palytoxin-like compounds, termed ovatoxins, along with trace amounts of putative palytoxin as the causative agents of the O. cf. ovata -related human sufferings. So far, any risk assessment for ovatoxins as well as establishment of their allowance levels in seafood has been prevented by the lack of pure toxins. The present paper reports on the isolation, NMR-based structural determination, and preliminary mouse lethality evaluation of ovatoxin-a, the major toxic compound contained in O. cf. ovata extracts. Availability of pure ovatoxin-a will open the double prospect of fully evaluating its toxicity and preparing reference standards to be employed in LC/MS quantitative analyses. Elucidation of ovatoxin-a's complex structure will ultimately herald the understanding of the molecular bases of ovatoxins bioactivity. 相似文献

We performed ab initio molecular orbital (MO) calculations using Hartree—Fock SCF, and second- and fourth-order Møller—Plesset perturbation theory for hydrogen migration reactions on the singlet vinyl fluoride potential energy surface. We used different basis sets and polarization functions to obtain the stationary point geometries and activation barriers. Basis set and the polarization function extension have small effects, while the correlation energy evaluation leads to new conclusions for one of the studied reactions: the product singlet CHCH2F is not a true local minimum on the potential energy surface. 相似文献

The polymorphic forms II and III of paracetamol were obtained by melting the marketed form I. Under the melting and cooling conditions used, it was possible to obtain forms I, II and III. The recrystallization conditions and the physical properties of forms II and III were investigated by means of various techniques: thermomicroscopy, DSC analysis, infrared microspectrometry and X-ray powder diffraction at room temperature and as a function of temperature.
