Several nitrones and one nitroso compound have been evaluated for their ability to control the molecular weight of polystyrene via the recently introduced radical polymerization method of enhanced spin capturing polymerization (ESCP). In this technique, molecular weight control is achieved (at ambient or slightly elevated temperatures) via the reaction of a growing radical chain with a nitrone forming a macronitroxide. These nitroxides subsequently react rapidly and irreversibly with propagating macroradicals forming polymer of a certain chain length, which depends on the nitrone concentration in the system. Via evaluation of the resulting number‐average molecular weight, Mn, at low conversions, the addition rate coefficient of the growing radicals onto the different nitrones is determined and activation energies are obtained. For the nitrones N‐tert‐butyl‐α‐phenylnitrone (PBN), N‐methyl‐α‐phenylnitrone (PMN), and N‐methyl‐α‐(4‐bromo‐phenyl) nitrone (pB‐PMN), addition rate coefficients, kad,macro, in a similar magnitude to the styrene propagation rate coefficient, kp, are found with spin capturing constants CSC (with CSC = kad,macro/kp) ranging from 1 to 13 depending on the nitrone and on temperature. Activation energies between 23.6 and 27.7 kJ mol−1 were deduced for kad,macro, congruent with a decreasing CSC with increasing temperature. Almost constant Mn over up to high monomer to polymer conversions is found when CSC is close to unity, while increasing molecular weights can be observed when the CSC is large. From temperatures of 100 °C onward, reversible cleavage of the alkoxyamine group can occur, superimposing a reversible activation/deactivation mechanism onto the ESCP system. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Toluene dioxygenase (TDO)-catalysed sulfoxidation, using Pseudomonas putida UV4, was observed for the thiophene substrates 1A-1N. The unstable thiophene oxide metabolites, 6A-6G, 6K-6N, spontaneously dimerised yielding the corresponding racemic disulfoxide cycloadducts 7A-7G, 7K-7N. Dimeric or crossed [4 + 2] cycloaddition products, derived from the thiophene oxide intermediates 6A and 6D or 6B and 6D, were found when mixtures of thiophene substrates 1A and 1D or 1B and 1D were biotransformed. The thiophene sulfoxide metabolite 6B was also trapped as cycloadducts 17 or 18 using stable dienophiles. Preferential dioxygenase-catalysed oxidation of the substituent on the thiophene ring, including exocyclic sulfoxidation (1H-1J) and cis-dihydroxylation of a phenyl substituent (1G and 1N), was also observed. An enzyme-catalysed deoxygenation of a sulfoxide in P. putida UV4 was noticed when racemic disulfoxide cyclo-adducts 7A, 7B and 7K were converted to the corresponding enantioenriched monosulfoxides 8A, 8B and 8K via a kinetic resolution process. The parent thiophene 1A and the 3-substituted thiophenes 1K-1N were also found to undergo ring dihydroxylation yielding the cis/trans-dihydrodiol metabolites 9A and 9K-9N. Evidence is provided for a dehydrogenase-catalysed desaturation of a heterocyclic dihydrodiol (9Kcis/9Ktrans) to yield the corresponding 2,3-dihydroxythiophene (24) as its preferred thiolactone tautomer (23). A simple model to allow prediction of the structure of metabolites, formed from TDO-catalysed bacterial oxidation of thiophene substrates 1, is presented. 相似文献

Phenothiazinyl merocyanine dyes with variable substitution patterns on the peripheral benzene ring were synthesized in good yields by Knoevenagel condensation of the corresponding phenothiazinyl aldehydes and N-methylrhodanine or indan-1,3-dione. The electronic properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, absorption, electro-optical absorption, and emission spectroscopy. All these merocyanines reveal reversible redox behavior that stems from the phenothiazinyl-centered oxidation to give stable radical cations. The redox potentials strongly correlate with Hammett σ(p) parameters. All merocyanines reveal large Stokes shifts. They also display a pronounced emissive solvatochromism, which is caused by large dipole moment changes upon excitation from the ground to the excited state. The international seafood trade is based on food safety, quality, sustainability, and traceability. Mussels are bio-accumulative sessile organisms that need regular control to guarantee their safe consumption. However, no well-established and validated methods exist to trace mussel origin, even if several attempts have been made over the years. Recently, an inorganic multi-elemental fingerprint coupled to multivariate statistics has increasingly been applied in food quality control. The mussel shell can be an excellent reservoir of foreign inorganic chemical species, allowing recording long-term environmental changes. The present work investigates the multi-elemental composition of mussel shells, including Al, Cu, Cr, Zn, Mn, Cd, Co, U, Ba, Ni, Pb, Mg, Sr, and Ca, determined by inductively-coupled plasma mass-spectrometry in Mytilus galloprovincialis collected along the Central Adriatic Coast (Marche Region, Italy) at 25 different sampling sites (18 farms and 7 natural banks) located in seven areas. The experimental data, coupled with chemometric approaches (principal components analysis and linear discriminant analysis), were used to create a statistical model able to discriminate samples as a function of their production site. The LDA model is suitable for achieving a correct assignment of >90% of individuals sampled to their respective harvesting locations and for being applied to counteract fraud. 相似文献

Environmental degradation of organic micropollutants is difficult to monitor due to their diffuse and ubiquitous input. Current approaches—concentration measurements over time, or daughter-to-parent compound ratios—may fall short, because they do not consider dilution, compound-specific sorption characteristics or alternative degradation pathways. Compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) offers an alternative approach based on evidence from isotope values. Until now, however, the relatively high limits for precise isotope analysis by gas chromatography—isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC-IRMS) have impeded CSIA of sub-microgram-per-liter scale micropollutant concentrations in field samples. This study presents the first measurements of C and N isotope ratios of the herbicide atrazine and its metabolite desethylatrazine at concentrations of 100 to 1,000 ng/L in natural groundwater samples. Solid-phase extraction and preparative HPLC were tested and validated for preconcentration and cleanup of groundwater samples of up to 10 L without bias by isotope effects. Matrix interferences after solid-phase extraction could be greatly reduced by a preparative HPLC cleanup step prior to GC-IRMS analysis. Sensitivity was increased by a factor of 6 to 8 by changing the injection method from large-volume to cold-on-column injection on the GC-IRMS system. Carbon and nitrogen isotope values of field samples showed no obvious correlation with concentrations or desethylatrazine-to-atrazine ratios. Contrary to expectations, however, δ 13 C values of desethylatrazine were consistently less negative than those of atrazine from the same sites. Potentially, this line of evidence may contain information about further desethylatrazine degradation. In such a case, the common practice of using desethylatrazine-to-atrazine ratios would underestimate natural atrazine degradation. 相似文献
