Convenient syntheses of isomaltose derivatives from amygdalin

The isomaltose trichloroacetimidate 7 was synthesized in five steps from d-amygdalin. The key step in this series of reactions was the acid catalyzed rearrangement of the inter-glycosydic bond to give the thermodynamically more stable α-anomer. The reaction was also applied to different di-, tri-, and tetrasaccharide derivatives of amygdalin giving the corresponding rearrangement products.     

Studies on Chemical Constituents of Polygonum Ciliinerve Ohwi

Three new apianen lactones Maomailiaoine I ( 1 ), Maomailiaoine II ( 2 ) and Maoimaliaoine III ( 3 ), together with one known apianen lactone, five known flavonoids and three other known compounds were isolated from Polgonum ciliinerve Ohwi. Their structures were deduced from spectroscopic methods and 2D NMR techniques.     

Tröger's base scaffold in racemic and chiral fashion as a spacer for bisdistamycin formation. Synthesis and DNA binding study

‘Head-to-head’ oligo-N-methylpyrrole peptide dimers linked by a methano[1,5]diazocin scaffold are presented in racemic as well as chiral fashion. Their DNA binding activities were assayed on calf thymus DNA, poly(dA-dT)₂, and poly(dC-dG)₂ by NMR and ECD spectroscopies, and fluorescence probe displacement assay. The presented dimers prefer AT sequences, but show higher affinity to poly(dC-dG)₂ than distamycin A. The (4R,9R) configuration of methanodiazocin bridge was found to be better suited for interaction with ct-DNA and poly(dA-dT)₂ than (4S,9S) configuration.     

Frequency-dependent linear response of superconducting systems

We present a density functional scheme for calculating the frequency-dependent linear response of superconductors. The central result is a set of integral equations determining the linear response of the normal and anomalous densities to external perturbations. Analytic solutions of these integral equations are obtained for homogeneous systems with separable effective interactions. For inhomogeneous superconductors, the formalism leads to a scheme for calculating the critical temperature without explicitly solving the gap equation. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Analysis of sulphonated polyphenols, synthetic tanning agents in heavily polluted tannery wastewaters

A method is presented for the analysis of sulphonated polyphenols, acting as synthetic tanning agents, in heavily polluted tannery wastewater. It consists of ion-pair solid-phase extraction (RP-18) with tetrabutylammonium bromide followed by reversed-phase ion-pair liquid chromatography on a C₁₈ stationary phase with UV detection. The detection limit is 15 μg/1. The influence of the wastewater matrix on extraction and the effects of pH and temperature on the HPLC separation are discussed. The procedure is not affected by the high contents of dissolved organic carbon and inorganic salts of tannery wastewater. The tannery effluents investigated contained around 40 mg/1 of sulphonated polyphenols. These compounds appear to be refractory against both anaerobic and aerobic biological wastewater treatment. They might, thus, contribute to the dissolved organic sulphur content of surface waters.     

Theoretical Study on the Structures and Stability of Isomers and Complex of[Si,C,O,O] Sytem

A detailed singlet potential energy surface(PES) of [Si,C,O,O] system including a van der Waals (vdW) comples SiO……CO2,eight isomers,and twelve transiton states is investigated by MP2 and QCISD(T) (single-point)methods.At the final QCISD(T)/6-311 G(2df)//MP2/6-311G(d) level with zero-point energy included,the complex SiO……CO is found to be thermodynamically and kinetically the most stable species.Although eight ismoers are located as local energy minima,they are rather unstable toward isomerization to the dissociation fragments or comples.For the reaction of silocon atoms with carbon dioxide,two competitive reaction channels are found,and the primary pathway,which leads to the products of SiO and CO fragments,is the direct oxygen-abstraction process from carbon dioxide by silicon atom with a41.16 kJ/mol reaction barrier height.Our predications are in good agreement with previous experimental and theoretical studies.     

Some remarks on the boundary regularity for minima of variational problems with obstacles

We minimize the Dirichlet-integral in a class of vector-valued functions u:^N defined by Dirichlet-boundary conditions and a side-condition of the form u()M with M bounded and open in ^N having smooth boundary M. If the boundary values are sufficiently regular we show that the minimizer can only have interior singularities, i.e. the solution is smooth in a neighborhood of .     

Glow discharge mass spectrometry

Over the past twenty years or so, glow discharge mass spectrometry (GDMS) has become the industry standard for the analysis of trace elements in metals and semiconductors. A review of its history is followed by a picture of the present situation and a look to where the future may lie. Applications are summarised, including the ability of GDMS to offer depth-resolved data and non-conductor analysis, and the well-documented quantitative nature of the results is reviewed. The effects resulting from the physical properties of the analyte material are discussed at length. Finally, recent work such as fast flow sources and pulsed glow discharges is reviewed.     

On hydrogen-bonded complexes: the case of (HF)2

The hydrogen fluoride dimer (HF)₂ is the most completely characterized hydrogen bonded species incorporating a donor molecule and an acceptor molecule. We provide a summary of experimental and theoretical information pertinent to the fundamental and harmonic vibrational frequencies, equilibrium geometry and dissociation energiesD _e andD ₀ as well as a brief critical discussion including some new results on the potential function and current best estimates of experimental quantities.     

Gruppenuniversalität und Homogenisierbarkeit

Summary For a classC of structures there are two archetypical questions: 1) Is every group G the full automorphism group of some C C? and 2) May every C C embedded into some homogeneous H C, i.e. into a structure H enjoying some transitivity properties? Using model theoretic language and conditions on the existence of certain free constructions withinC, some rather general positive answers to these questions are obtained. These abstract results give some (methodical) unification to a variety of theorems for some very concrete classesC of combinatorial, geometrical or algebraic nature in the literature. To underline this point, the major part of the paper is devoted to a systematic survey of classesC of structures in which our general approach is applicable, included many classesC for which our type of questions has not yet been considered.
