Condis Crystals of Small Molecules III. Thermal Analysis of Plastic and Condis Crystals of some Cyclosilanes

Three cyclic methyl and ethyl substituted silanes were synthesized and their thermal properties analyzed. All show a plastic crystalline state which permits also ring and/or side-chain conformational motion as judged from the enthalpies of transition to the isotropic state. Heat capacity data and entropies of disordering into the plastic crystal leave open the possibility of a condis (conformationally disordered) state below the plastic crystal state with a continuous, transitionless freezing of the conformational motion at lower temperature.     

APPLICATIONS OF MULTICOMPONENT ASSEMBLY PROCESSES TO THE FACILE SYNTHESES OF DIVERSELY FUNCTIONALIZED NITROGEN HETEROCYCLES

Several multicomponent assembly processes have been developed for the synthesis of intermediates that may be elaborated by a variety of cyclizations to generate a diverse array of highly functionalized heterocycles from readily-available starting materials. The overall approach enables the efficient preparation of libraries of small molecules derived from fused, privileged scaffolds.     

Optimal contracting with effort and misvaluation

We propose a new continuous-time contracting model, in which the firm value process can only be observed with noise, and there are two sources of moral hazard: the agent’s effort and misvaluation. The principal can induce the agent to alter the perceived fundamental value of the firm through misvaluation, thus changing the market estimate of that value. We consider two cases in detail: the one in which the market correctly anticipates only the effort, and the other in which it correctly anticipates both the effort and the amount of misvaluation. In the first case, we find that it is optimal for the principal to induce the agent to apply a non-zero amount of misvaluation. Using calculus of variation techniques, we find the optimal pay-per-performance sensitivity (PPS) of the contract and optimal effort and misvaluation amount, by means of solving of a second order ordinary differential equation. In the second case, which can be viewed as an extension of the seminal Holmstrom-Milgrom model to the case of noisy observations, we find that the optimal misvaluation value is zero, and we compare the resulting optimal contract to the Holmstrom-Milgrom contract.     

Rapid determination of 90Sr in urine samples using AnaLig® Sr-01

This paper describes the use of IBC’s AnaLig^® Sr-01 molecular recognition technology product to effectively and selectively pre-concentrate, separate, and recover strontium from urine samples. This method uses two-stage columns separation consisting of two different commercial products Eichrom’s Pre-filter Material and AnaLig^® Sr-01 column from IBC Advanced Technologies. This method does not involve co-precipitation of strontium as phosphates and oxalates from urine samples. The new rapid method separates strontium-90 with high chemical recovery.     

σ-Porosity is separably determined

We prove a separable reduction theorem for σ-porosity of Suslin sets. In particular, if A is a Suslin subset in a Banach space X, then each separable subspace of X can be enlarged to a separable subspace V such that A is σ-porous in X if and only if A∩V is σ-porous in V. Such a result is proved for several types of σ-porosity. The proof is done using the method of elementary submodels, hence the results can be combined with other separable reduction theorems. As an application we extend a theorem of L. Zají?ek on differentiability of Lipschitz functions on separable Asplund spaces to the nonseparable setting.     

Beobachtung des Stickstoffstoffwechsels bei Leguminosen mittels 15N

Es war Ziel dieser Arbeit, zu ermitteln, welchen Einfluß höhere Dosen von Stickstoffdüngemitteln in Form von KNO₃ auf die Menge des in der Pflanze fixierten Luftstickstoffs haben. Als Versuchspflanze wählten wir Pferdebohnen (Vicia faba, Chlumetzer Abart) wegen ihrer vielseitigen Verwendung in der Landwirtschaft und ihrer besonderen experimentellen Eignung.     

Ultrafast Delamination of Graphite into High-Quality Graphene Using Alternating Currents

To bridge the gap between laboratory-scale studies and commercial applications, mass production of high quality graphene is essential. A scalable exfoliation strategy towards the production of graphene sheets is presented that has excellent yield (ca. 75 %, 1–3 layers), low defect density (a C/O ratio of 21.2), great solution-processability, and outstanding electronic properties (a hole mobility of 430 cm² V⁻¹ s⁻¹). By applying alternating currents, dual exfoliation at both graphite electrodes enables a high production rate exceeding 20 g h⁻¹ in laboratory tests. As a cathode material for lithium storage, graphene-wrapped LiFePO₄ particles deliver a high capacity of 167 mAh g⁻¹ at 1 C rate after 500 cycles.     

A diastereoselective C–C bond formation at C-5 of d-gulose. A convenient approach to (5S)-5-C-alkyl-β-l-lyxo-hexofuranoses

A flexible approach to the stereoselective synthesis of (5S)-5-C-methyl- and (5S)-5-C-ethyl-β-l-lyxo-hexofuranoses 15a, 22 starting from 1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-α-d-gulofuranose 3 as the source of chirality is described. The corresponding C-5 alkyl groups were introduced via a Wittig olefination followed by Pd/C-mediated hydrogenation of the conformationally restricted alkenes in a highly diastereoselective manner.
