Dipolar and single-phase two-electrode quadrupolar detection schemes have been investigated at a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) setup built for the KATRIN experiment at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) in Heidelberg. We present first experimental results of 7Li?+? signals from a cylindrical Penning trap configuration for both detection schemes. While the prominent signal of the conventional dipolar detection scheme marks the reduced cyclotron frequency, the main signal for the quadrupolar detection appears at the sum of the reduced cyclotron frequency and the magnetron frequency. For ideal trapping fields, this sum frequency equals the ion cyclotron frequency ?? c ?=?qB/(2??m). Sidebands due to the combined motions of the cyclotron mode and magnetron mode are observed by quadrupolar detection which allows the determination of the respective combinations of eigenfrequencies.  相似文献

We report surface‐enhanced Raman studies on intact plant material using onion layers as a biological target, and silver nanoaggregates and silver island films as enhancing plasmonic structures. Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) enhancement allows the detection of strong Raman signatures of chemical constituents of the surface of the onion layer such as cellulose, proteins, and flavonols. Because of long‐time incubation, SERS sensors can access the extracellular space in the inner of the layer. The location of silver nanoparticles inside the onion layer has been monitored by the SERS images collected from chemicals present in the onion and/or reporter molecules attached to the nanoparticles. Our studies show a competitive adsorption of intrinsic bio molecules of the onion layer and reporter molecules. Different spectra from different places of the layer indicate the complex heterogeneous chemical structure of the plant material. The pH‐sensitive reporter molecule para mercapto benzoic acid attached to the nanoparticles allows us to infer pH values inside the extracellular matrix of the onion layer. We study the small mass limit (or: the Smoluchowski–Kramers limit) of a class of quantum Brownian motions with inhomogeneous damping and diffusion. For Ohmic bath spectral density with a Lorentz–Drude cutoff, we derive the Heisenberg–Langevin equations for the particle’s observables using a quantum stochastic calculus approach. We set the mass of the particle to equal \(m = m_{0} \epsilon \), the reduced Planck constant to equal \(\hbar = \epsilon \) and the cutoff frequency to equal \(\varLambda = E_{\varLambda }/\epsilon \), where \(m_0\) and \(E_{\varLambda }\) are positive constants, so that the particle’s de Broglie wavelength and the largest energy scale of the bath are fixed as \(\epsilon \rightarrow 0\). We study the limit as \(\epsilon \rightarrow 0\) of the rescaled model and derive a limiting equation for the (slow) particle’s position variable. We find that the limiting equation contains several drift correction terms, the quantum noise-induced drifts, including terms of purely quantum nature, with no classical counterparts.  相似文献

An X‐ray fluorescence method to determine whether sulfur is present in 19th century photographs due to intentional toning or to environmental deterioration is proposed. In the 19th century salted paper print photographic process, AgCl formed on the surface of a sheet of paper was exposed to sunlight in contact with a negative, leading to the printing out of a Ag image that was fixed by immersing it in a sodium thiosulfate solution or hypo. The improper execution of the fixing in these photographs may result in the presence of sulfur, mostly manifested in image fading, irregular staining, and discoloration. Also, 19th century artists produced salted paper prints with a variety of image tonalities, for example, by using an artificially aged thiosulfate bath. The presence of sulfur in photographs may also be due to sulfur‐containing environmental pollutants. Therefore, knowledge about the location and amounts of sulfur is important to understand the artistic technique and/or the deterioration processes. In this study, the amounts of sulfur and the silver to sulfur signal ratios were determined for a salted paper print made in the laboratory following a 19th century procedure and for two artistic salted paper photographs using X‐ray fluorescence and standards prepared with different amounts of retained hypo and quantified by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. The amounts of sulfur and the normalized silver to sulfur ratios for the artistic photographs were evaluated based on the results obtained in the samples prepared in the laboratory and in the context of the 19th century practices. The topical issue on Advances in Positron and Electron Scattering” combines contributionsfrom POSMOL 2015 together with others devoted to celebrate the unprecedented scientificcareers of our loyal colleagues and trusted friends Steve Buckman (Australian NationalUniversity, Australia) and Michael Allan (University of Fribourg, Switzerland) on theoccasion of their retirements. POSMOL 2015, the XVIII International Workshop on Low-EnergyPositron and Positronium Physics and the XIX International Symposium on Electron-MoleculeCollisions and Swarms, was held at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal, from17–20 July 2015. The international workshop and symposium allowed to achieve a veryprivileged forum of sharing and developing our scientific expertise on current aspects ofpositron, positronium and antiproton interactions with electrons, atoms, molecules andsolid surfaces, and related topics, as well as electron interactions with molecules inboth gaseous and condensed phases. Particular topics include studies of electroninteractions with biomolecules, electron induced surface chemistry and the study of plasmaprocesses. Recent developments in the study of swarms are also fully addressed.  相似文献

In this study, an electron-tracking Monte Carlo algorithm developed by us is combined with established photon transport models in order to simulate all primary and secondary particle interactions in water for incident photon radiation. As input parameters for secondary electron interactions, electron scattering cross sections by water molecules and experimental energy loss spectra are used. With this simulation, the resulting energy deposition can be modelled at the molecular level, yielding detailed information about localization and type of single collision events. The experimental emission spectrum of I-125 seeds, as used for radiotherapy of different tumours, was used for studying the energy deposition in water when irradiating with this radionuclide.  相似文献
