Flexible Twin Open Ring Metro WDM Network

We have demonstrated a flexible twin open ring WDM network for metro applications. A pair of optical switches in the network keeps the fiber rings open to prevent signal circulation. Traffics are broadcast to every node and selected at the receiving side. Superior transmission and protection switching are proved.     

Nash equilibrium and the law of large numbers

Pascoa (1993a) showed that the failure of the law of large numbers for a continuum of independent randomizations implies that Schmeidler's (1973) concept of a measure-valued profile function in equilibrium might not coincide with the concept of mixed strategies equilibrium of a nonatomic game. The latter should be defined as a probability measure on pure strategies profiles which is induced by the product measure of players' mixed strategies. This paper addresses existence and approximate purification of the latter and presents an assumption on continuity of payoffs that guarantees the equivalence between the two equilibrium concepts.     

The Gaussian Polynomial,Restricted k-Rowed Plane Partitions and Hopf Algebras

Resorting to suitable representations of q-algebras, we give a new proof of the theorem stating that the Gaussian polynomial defined by the q-binomial coefficient is the weight (polynomial generating function) of the restricted (i.e. limited in number and size of summands) k-rowed plane partitions.     

Experiment on Gamma Ray Generation by Laser Compton Scattering

A gamma ray generation facility was developed through laser Compton scattering on an electron beam storage ring, for the purpose of researching nuclear transmutation. Theoretical analysis on gamma ray yield and energy spectrum was performed, as well as EGS4 simulation code was employed to simulate the interaction of gamma ray and Ge detector. The acquired experimental results are in agreement with theory.     

Dielectric spectroscopy of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal showing an antiferroelectric-ferrielectric transition

We report the dielectric relaxation behaviour in the antiferroelectric SmC_A* and ferrielectric SmC_γ* phases of the antiferroelectric liquid crystal 4-[5-(4-octloxyphenyl)-2-pyrimidinyl]phenyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(methoxyphenyl)butanoate which shows an antiferroelectric transition at around 88±0.1°C. In the SmC_A* phase, two dielectric relaxation modes have been found, namely the usual antiferroelectric Goldstone mode and another arising from molecular rotation around its short axis. In the SmC_γ* phase, one dielectric relaxation mode has been observed due to the ferrielectric Goldstone mode. Dielectric increments and relaxation frequencies of the antiferroelectric and ferrielectric phases are estimated from the fits of the Cole-Cole function of the dielectric spectrum. The dependence of the bias field in the ferrielectric phase is also discussed.

Let {X_n, n ? 1} be a sequence of identically distributed random variables, Z_n = max {X₁,…, X_n} and {u_n, n ? 1 } an increasing sequence of real numbers. Under certain additional requirements, necessary and sufficient conditions are given to have, with probability one, an infinite number of crossings of {Z_n} with respect to {u_n}, in two cases: (1) The X_n's are independent, (2) {X_n} is stationary Gaussian and satisfies a mixing condition.

We determine theS _n ×S _m -cocharacterX _n,m of the algebraM _1,1(E) and prove that theT ₂-ideal of its graded identities is generated by the polynomialsy ₁ y ₂−y ₂ y ₁ andz ₁ z ₂ z ₃+z ₃ z ₂ z ₁.     

Fourier Series Representation of Low-Lying Eigenfunctions for a Particle on the Torus

A Fourier series method for finding the low-lying eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the Schrödinger equation for a particle on the surface of a torus is given.
