First demonstration of a temporal coherence analysis through a parametric interferometer

We analyze the temporal coherence of an optical infrared radiation in the visible domain by using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a wavelength conversion stage in each arm. We exploit a sum frequency generation process in bulk PPLN crystal to convert the infrared radiation at 1.55 μm into 0.63 μm before the interferometric mixing. The applicability of the Wiener-Kintchine theorem through up-conversion processes is here demonstrated by direct comparisons among visible and infrared measurements.     

Moisture driven aging mechanism of LiFePO4 subjected to air exposure

The impact of air exposure on LiFePO₄–C nanocomposites has been investigated at moderate temperature. We show here that the storage in 120 °C hot air for 30 days leads not only to the material delithiation but also to the formation of an amorphous ferric phosphate side-phase, accounting for 38% of the total iron. The formed phase is found to be partially hydrated, suggesting a water-driven aging mechanism and a proposed hypothetic formula: Li_xFePO₄(OH)_x. The side-phase displays new electrochemical activity but poor cyclability and the overall battery performance is thus deteriorated. The regeneration of pristine structure, together with the performance recovery can be achieved by a simple thermal treatment under inert atmosphere.     

A practical mild, one-pot, regiospecific synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted indoles via consecutive Sonogashira and Cacchi reactions

[Structure: see text] A practical one-pot, regiospecific three-component process for the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted indoles was developed via consecutive Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling, amidopalladation, and reductive elimination.     

Judicious application of allyl protecting groups for the synthesis of 2-morpholin-4-yl-4-oxo-4H-chromen-8-yl triflate, a key precursor of DNA-dependent protein kinase inhibitors

[Structure: see text] 2-morpholin-4-yl-4-oxo-4H-chromen-8-yl 2,2,2-trifluoromethanesulfonate is a key intermediate for the synthesis of the DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) inhibitor 8-dibenzothiophen-4-yl-2-morpholin-4-yl-chromen-4-one (NU7441). Two improved methods for the synthesis of this triflate have been developed: (A) in 35% overall yield, through modification of the published route, and (B) in 15% overall yield, by a new route employing a Baker-Venkataraman rearrangement to enable generation of the chromenone scaffold. Both syntheses depend on the judicious use of allyl protecting groups.     

First total synthesis of eudistalbin A

<正>Eudistalbin A was isolated from marine tunicate eudistoma album and possess cytotoxic activity(ED_(50)3.2μg/mL) in vitro against the growth of KB human buccal carinoma cells.The synthetic eudistalbin A showed potent inhibitory activity against the breast carcinoma cell line MDA-231 with an IC_(50) value of 2.1μmol/L using the metabolic assay MTT.All structures of new compounds were confirmed by ~1H NMR,~(13)C NMR,HRMS and optical rotation.     

An improved extraction of marrubiim fromMarrubium vulgare

Summary Marrubiin is the main active compound isolated fromM. vulgare, a medicinal plant used in folk medicine to cure several diseases. The present study shows that chitin, an abundant natural polymer, may be successfully in chromatography column to separate marrubiin from complex mixtures. The experimental procedure described here represents an efficient and rapid method to obtain such compound in high yield.     

Electrochemical investigation of nucleic acid behaviour: Part I. Native calf thymus DNA

The polarographic behaviour of DNA extracted from the calf thymus has been studied using phase sensitive a.c. polarography. The conditions of adsorption on the dropping mercury electrode have been studied in terms of the conditions of medium (ionic strength, pH) and of the molecular weight of DNA. The ionic strength plays a deciding role in the conditions of adsorption. The adsorption also depends on the form of the macromolecule. When it is in rod form (low molecular weight) the adsorption occurs parallel to the charged surface. When it adopts a wormlike form, loops are formed which extend into the solution. The adsorption does not depend on the nature of the monovalent counterion thus the adsorption is identical in Na⁺ and NH₄⁺ media.The polarograms of native and denatured DNA present an initial rounded peak situated at the limit of the adsorption zone. The native DNA is characterised by a second peak which appears, whatever the medium and the molecular weight of the DNA may be, on the recordings of the in-phase component of the current. This peak is situated at a more positive potential than that which is normally characteristic of the denatured DNA.The characteristics of the peaks of the native DNA have been specified. The first peak corresponds to the desorption of a certain number of adsorbed elements of the macromolecule. The second peak changes its properties according to the pH. In a slightly acid medium, it corresponds to the reduction of the adsorbed bases without desorption of the reduced products. The zones of reduction are the locally destabilized, i.e. the A-T rich regions of the DNA. In alkaline medium it corresponds to the desorption of the macromolecule. A general schema of the behaviour of native DNA on the dropping mercury electrode is proposed.     

Preservation potential of individual couplet and deposition rates on mudflats in the Changjiang Estuary

Non-barrier mudflats in the Changjiang Estuary is examined to obtain preservation potentials and deposition rates over different time scales. The preservation potential of couplet is ca. 46.6% within daily scale and decreases as the time-interval extending, with 9.2% on a semi-lunar scale and 3.7% on a seasonal scale. In the long term, only 1.6% of daily deposition can potentially be preserved in the tidal flat sequence and other 98.4% have been eroded and leave sedimentary discordances, discernable or un-discernable, in the mudflat deposits. A negative log-linear relationship is examined between sedimentation rates and the time spans. The length of sedimentary hiatuses on the mudflat deposition were estimated with considerable uncertainty, but it can provide from an actualistic base some further insights into the nature and origin of ancient mudflat deposits with emphasis on the sedimentary discordances.
