The biocathode in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) system is a promising and a cheap alternative method to improve cathode reaction performance. This study aims to identify the effect of the electrode combination between non-chemical modified stainless steel (SS) and graphite fibre brush (GFB) for constructing bio-electrodes in an MFC. In this study, the MFC had two chambers, separated by a cation exchange membrane, and underwent a total of four different treatments with different electrode arrangements (anodeǁcathode)—SSǁSS (control), GFBǁSS, GFBǁGFB and SSǁGFB. Both electrodes were heat-treated to improve surface oxidation. On the 20th day of the operation, the GFBǁGFB arrangement generated the highest power density, up to 3.03 W/m3 (177 A/m3), followed by the SSǁGFB (0.0106 W/m3, 0.412 A/m3), the GFBǁSS (0.0283 W/m3, 17.1 A/m3), and the SSǁSS arrangements (0.0069 W/m−3, 1.64 A/m3). The GFBǁGFB had the lowest internal resistance (0.2 kΩ), corresponding to the highest power output. The other electrode arrangements, SSǁGFB, GFBǁSS, and SSǁSS, showed very high internal resistance (82 kΩ, 2.1 kΩ and 18 kΩ, respectively) due to the low proton and electron movement activity in the MFC systems. The results show that GFB materials can be used as anode and cathode in a fully biotic MFC system.  相似文献

Thorough physical and chemical characterization of plutonium–beryllium (PuBe) neutron sources is an important capability with applications ranging from material accountancy to nuclear forensics. Characterization of PuBe sources is not trivial owing to range of existing source designs and the need for adequate infrastructure to deal with radiation and protect the analyst. A five point pharmacophore was generated using PHASE for a series of nitroaromatic compounds and their congeners as antitubercular agents. The generated pharmacophore yielded significant 3D‐QSAR model with r2 of 0.890 for a training set of 92 molecules. The model also showed excellent predictive power with correlation coefficient Q2 of 0.857 for a test set of 31 compounds. The pharmacophore indicated that presence of a nitro group, a piperazine moiety, one aromatic ring feature and two acceptor features are necessary for potent antitubercular activity. The pharmacophore was supported by electronic property analysis using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/3–21*G level. Molecular electrostatic profile of the compounds was consistent with the generated pharmacophore model, particularly appearance of localized negative potential regions near both the oxygen atoms of nitro group extending laterally to the isoxazole ring system/amide bond in the most active compounds. Calculated data further revealed that all active compounds have smaller LUMO energies located over the nitro group, furan ring, and isoxazole ring/amide bond attached to it. Higher negative values of LUMO energies concentrated over the nitro group are indicative of the electron acceptor capacity of the compounds, suggesting that these compounds are prodrugs and must be activated by TB‐nitroreductase. The results obtained from this study should aid in efficient design and development of nitroaromatic compounds as antitubercular agents. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comput Chem, 2010  相似文献

In this paper, we have addressed the problem of the radiation transport with the Monte Carlo N particle(MCNP) code. This is a general purpose Monte Carlo tool designed to transport neutron, photon and electron in three dimensional geometries. To examine the performance of MCNP5 code in the field of external radiotherapy, we performed the modeling of an Electron Density phantom (EDP) irradiated by photons from 60Co source. The model was used to calculate the Percent Depth Dose (PDD) at different depths in an EDP. One field size for PDD has been examined. A 60Co photons source placed at 80 cm source to surface distance (SSD). The results of calculations were compared to TPS data obtained at National Institute of Oncology of Rabat.  相似文献

This work establishes an asymptotic bound on the characteristic function of signed linear serial rank statistics. The result is obtained under rather general conditions including the important case of van der Waerden scores. It generalizes the result of Seoh (1983, Ph.D. Thesis, Department of Mathematics, Indiana University) and constitutes an essential step to the elaboration of Berry-Esséen's bounds and the establishment of Edgeworth expansions. These statistics constitute a natural tool for testing the hypothesis of white noise with a symmetrical (unspecified) distribution in comparison to other alternative hypothesis of serial dependence.  相似文献
