Correspondence between generalized binomial field states and coherent atomic states

We show that the N-photon generalized binomial states of electromagnetic field may be put in a bijective mapping with the coherent atomic states of N two-level atoms. We exploit this correspondence to simply obtain both known and new properties of the N-photon generalized binomial states. In particular, an over-complete basis of these binomial states and an orthonormal basis are obtained. Finally, the squeezing properties of generalized binomial state are analyzed.     

Survey of the proton affinities of adenine, cytosine, thymine and uracil dideoxyribonucleosides, deoxyribonucleosides and ribonucleosides

The kinetic method was applied to the determination of the proton affinities (PAs) of modified deoxy- and dideoxyribonucleosides. A correlation between the measured PAs and the replacement of one of the three hydroxyl groups of the ribose unit is presented. A PA scale was obtained which shows that the replacement of the primary or of one or both secondary hydroxyl groups of a ribonucleoside with a hydrogen atom induces the lowering or the enhancement of the nucleoside PA, respectively. The scale extends over a very narrow range of approximately 2 kcal mol(-1), thus demonstrating the sensitivity of the kinetic method in the evaluation of small differences in thermodynamic parameters.     

Palladium complexes with triethylenetetraminehexa-acetic acid

The formation of complexes between palladium(II) and triethylenetetraminehexa-acetic acid (TTHA, H(6)L) was studied by measuring the hydrogen-ion concentration with a glass electrode; 1:1 and 2:1 metal to ligand complexes with different degrees of protonation were observed and the corresponding equilibrium constants evaluated.     

Loss induced collective subradiant Dicke behaviour in a multiatom sample

The exact dynamics of N two-level atoms coupled to a common electromagnetic bath and closely located inside a lossy cavity is reported. Stationary radiation trapping effects are found and very transparently interpreted in the context of our approach. We prove that initially injecting one excitation only in the N atoms-cavity system, loss mechanisms asymptotically drive the matter sample toward a long-lived collective subradiant Dicke state. The role played by the closeness of the N atoms with respect to such a cooperative behavior is brought to light and carefully discussed.     

Evidence for nontermination of rotational bands in 74Kr

Three rotational bands in 74Kr were studied up to (in one case one transition short of) the maximum spin I(max) of their respective single-particle configurations. Their lifetimes have been determined using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The deduced transition quadrupole moments reveal a modest decrease, but far from a complete loss of collectivity at the maximum spin I(max). This feature, together with the results of mean field calculations, indicates that the observed bands do not terminate at I = I(max).     

Spectroscopy of 40Ca and negative-parity bands

We have studied the reactions as well as the binary channel , in order to search for deformed states, which form rotational bands in ⁴⁰Ca. We observe positive- and negative-parity bands. The negative-parity band is proposed to be a partner of an inversion doublet with the positive-parity states being based on 4p-4h configurations. Investigation of lifetimes in dipole bands of 141Eu

Lifetimes have been measured for dipole bands in ¹⁴¹Eu using DSAM. The deduced B(M1) and B(E2) values as well as B(M1)/B(E2) ratios are compared with calculations in the framework of the TAC (Tilted Axis Cranking) and SPAC (Shears mechanism with Principal Axis Cranking) models. Hierarchical porphyrin self-assembly in aqueous solution

In aqueous solution meso-tetrakis(4-phosphonatophenyl)porphyrin shows self-aggregation processes controlled by the "sergeant-soldier rule". After partial protonation of the external phosphonic groups, it is possible (i) to further protonate the inner nitrogen atoms of the molecules or (ii) to allow, over time, the system to aggregate. Therefore, the two procedure lead to a different system evolution, producing species with different chemico-physical properties.     

Nonlocal properties of entangled two-photon generalized binomial states in two separate cavities

Entangled two-photon generalized binomial states of the electromagnetic field in two separate cavities are considered. The nonlocal properties of this entangled field state are analyzed by studying the electric field correlations between the two cavities. A Bell’s inequality violation is obtained using an appropriate dichotomic cavity operator that is, in principle, measurable. The text was submitted by the authors in English.
