The influence of glass coating on the single domain wall potential in amorphous glass-coated Fe-based microwires

The effect of the glass coating on the single domain wall potential in amorphous glass-coated Fe-based microwire has been studied by the switching field distribution technique. The thermoactivated mechanism model is used to describe the thermally activated switching through the complex energy barrier in amorphous FeSiB microwires. Glass removal leads to the increase of the probability of the thermally activated switching pointing to the decrease of the energy barrier.     

Narrow linewidth 2 μm optical parametric oscillation in periodically poled LiNbO<Subscript>3</Subscript> with volume Bragg grating outcoupler

An optical parametric oscillator using a periodically poled LiNbO₃ crystal and a volume Bragg grating output coupler is presented. Signal and idler wavelengths of 2008 and 2264 nm were generated from the 1064 nm Nd:YVO₄ pump laser. The Bragg grating was reflecting in a narrow band around 2008 nm, creating a purely singly resonant cavity. Signal and idler linewidths of approximately 0.44 and 0.72 nm, respectively, were measured. This is a reduction of 80 and 60 times compared to when using a mirror as output coupler. A total output energy of 156 μJ was measured with 47% slope efficiency. Long-Range proton-proton coupling constants. I. Propanic coupling involving a methyl group 4JMeH

An equation is formulated on the basis of theoretical INDO/FPT calculations which describes the angular dependence of the propanic long-range coupling constant ⁴J_MeH in substituted HCCCH₃ fragments. This equation is a truncated Fourier series in the torsion angle ?, HCCMe, which takes into account the dependence of the Fourier coefficients on the bond angle θ, CCMe. The substituent effects are assumed to be additive. Some parameters in the equation may be obtained from the ⁴J_MeH couplings in propane and neopentane derivatives. The calculated effect upon ⁴J_MeH of changes in the bond angle θ is significant and it seems to be in part the cause of some effects which have been attributed to conformational dependence.     

Classification of Nonorientable 3-Manifolds Admitting Decompositions into ≤ 26 Coloured Tetrahedra

The present paper adopts a computational approach to the study of nonorientable 3-manifolds: in fact, we describe how to create an automaticcatalogue of all nonorientable 3-manifolds admitting coloured triangulationswith a fixed number of tetrahedra. In particular, the catalogue has been effectively produced and analysed for up to 26 tetrahedra, to reach the complete classification of all involved 3-manifolds. As a consequence, the following summarising result can be stated:THEOREM I. Exactly seven closed connected prime nonorientable3-manifolds exist, which admit a coloured triangulation consisting of atmost 26 tetrahedra.More precisely, they are the four Euclidean nonorientable 3-manifolds, the nontrivial S2 bundle overS1, the topological product between thereal projective plane RP2 andS1, and the torus bundle overS1, with monodromy induced by matrix(10 -11).

Summary In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem, for second order, linear elliptic partial differential equations with discontinuous coefficients in unbounded domains. We obtain some results about existence and uniqueness of the solution in W²().

Haplotyping by capillary electrophoresis

The investigation of the genetic background and phenotype structures of complex diseases, such as cardiovascular or psychiatric disorders and tumors, is one of the most scrutinized fields of the post genomic era. Besides the multiplex analysis of genetic markers and polymorphisms throughout the whole genome, more and more attention is focused on the interaction between the etiological factors of these traits. Haplotype determination, rather than multiplex genotyping seems to be one of the first building blocks of this endeavor. This review focuses on the importance and theoretical background of haplotyping, and summarizes the recent examples of novel and emerging haplotyping techniques by capillary gel electrophoresis based DNA fragment analysis, a powerful tool for the examination of the inheritance of complex traits.     

Synthesis and evaluation of a C8 stationary phase on a silica hydride surface by hydrosilation of 1-octyne

The silanization/hydrosilation method is used to bond an alkyne (1-octyne) to a silica hydride surface. The new bonded material is characterized by elemental analysis and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy. The hydrophobic behavior of this material was determined by the retention characteristics of aromatic solutes and the shape selectivity as well as phase classification (monomeric or polymeric) was measured by the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon mixture standard reference material 869. The presence of residual silanols on the bonded phase was probed by several basic solutes at pH 7. Long-term stability studies were conducted by measuring retention and peak symmetry of basic compounds over several thousand column volumes at pH 10.     

Seed gum ofStryphnodendron barbatiman (barbatimão)

Stryphnodendron barbatiman (barbatimão) is a native tree that is found throughout the “Cerrados,” a region of Central Brazil. Plant seeds, on water extraction, furnished 28 g% galactomannan (dryweight basis), the monosaccharide composition of which (galactose to mannose ratio, 1.0:1.5) fits in the legume heteromannan group. This seed gum, after Sevag deproteinization, still retained 6 g% of associated protein and had a molecular weight of about 1.8 MD on gel filtration. A high intrinsic viscosity (1300 cP) was observed for the polysaccharide sample obtained after reflux of the crushed seeds in 80% aqueous methanol.
