Synthesis of N,N'-Diacyl-1,2-di-(4-pyridyl)ethylenedianiines

Reaction of N-(4-pyridylmethyl)benzamide N-oxides with acetic anhydride yielded dimerization compounds. This dimerization occurs at the atom attached to the pyridine ring. These compounds so obtained were evaluated for analgesic and antiinflammatory activity.

Chaos in classical cosmology (II)

We present a new dynamical calculation about the Friedman-Robertson-Walker universe considered as an autonomous Hamiltonian. The time evolution of this Hamiltonian presents numerical instabilities so we apply a symplectic integration via infinitesimal canonical transformations of the phase space time evolution that preserves the Poincaré invariant. In this way, we have also obtained a sensitive improvement in the accuracy of the Hamiltonian constraint, as well as in the computing time. We confirm our previous results; in a spatially closed universe, the route to chaos is reached by sucessive breakage of the resonant tori due to the action of 11 resonances.     

Spectrophotometric determination of zinc in copper-base alloys with TAN

TAN reacts with zinc(II) forming a red complex with composition 1:2 Zn(II)-TAN and absorption maximum at 582 nm. Zinc can be determined with this reagent in the presence of Triton X-100, in the pH range 6.20-8.00 with a molar absorptivity of 4.5×10⁴ l/mol/cm Beer's Law was obeyed up to least 1.55 g/ml. Copper interference was eliminated with a mixture of thiosulfate and ascorbic acid and nickel separated by precipitation with dimethylglyoxime. The proposed method was used for zinc determination in several copper-base alloys and the results of analysis in comparison with certified values indicated that the procedure was accurate and precise. A derivative procedure is also proposed, allowing zinc determination with high sensitivity (5-400 ng/ml).     

Right distributive quasigroups on algebraic varieties

In this paper we develop a structure theory of algebraic right distributive quasigroups which correspond to closed and connected conjugacy classes generating algebraic Fischer groups (in the sense of [6]) such that the mappingx x ^–1 ax, fora , is an automorphism of (as variety). We also give examples of algebraic Fischer groups where this does not happen. It becomes clear that the class of algebraic right distributive quasigroups has nice properties concerning subquasigroups, normal subquasigroups and direct product.We give a complete classification of one- and two-dimensional as well as of minimal algebraic right distributive quasigroups.     

Effect of acetate on ferrihydrite crystallization

Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to follow the aging of ferrihydrite with different amounts of acetate, to achieve more crystalline products. Mössbauer spectra of fresh samples did not show any magnetic components. After two years aging, the solids presented crystalline fractions. Hematite formation was inhibited as acetate content increased in solids. For an acetate/iron molar ratio equal to 0.63 goethite was formed instead of hematite. X-ray diffraction confirmed these results. This work shows that synthetic samples can be used for elucidating the anti-hematitic effect of organic matter already detected in soils.
