Within the concept of projective lattice geometry we are considering the class of stable geometries which have also been introduced in [14]. The investigation of their basic properties will result in fundamental structure theorems which especially give a lattice-geometric characterization of free left modules of rank 6 over proper right Bezout rings of stable rank 2. Using a simple ansatz for the inhomogeneous screened linear electron gas susceptibility, we obtain the face dependent surfaces energies, σ, of the simple metals, through second order. In contrast to results of the first-order Lang-Kohn method and the one-dimensional variational values of Monnier and Perdew, we obtain weakly face dependent σ values consistent with experiment. Our results hinge on two previously neglected considerations: (i) ion induced inhomogeneity of the bulk electron density prior to cleavage and (ii) ion induced electron density inhomogeneity in the surface region after cleavage.  相似文献

We investigate the statistical mechanics of a complex fieldø whose dynamics is governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Such fields describe, in suitable idealizations, Langmuir waves in a plasma, a propagating laser field in a nonlinear medium, and other phenomena. Their Hamiltonian $$H(\phi ) = \int_\Omega {[\frac{1}{2}|\nabla \phi |^2 - (1/p) |\phi |^p ] dx}$$ is unbounded below and the system will, under certain conditions, develop (self-focusing) singularities in a finite time. We show that, whenΩ is the circle and theL 2 norm of the field (which is conserved by the dynamics) is bounded byN, the Gibbs measureυ obtained is absolutely continuous with respect to Wiener measure and normalizable if and only ifp andN are such that classical solutions exist for all time—no collapse of the solitons. This measure is essentially the same as that of a one-dimensional version of the more realisitc Zakharov model of coupled Langmuir and ion acoustic waves in a plasma. We also obtain some properties of the Gibbs state, by both analytic and numerical methods, asN and the temperature are varied.  相似文献

The two known cadinanes 2-hydroxy-8α-hydroxycalamenene and 2-hydroxy-8α-angeloyloxycalamenene were isolated from a Louisiana population of Heterotheca subaxillaris.

Their 13C NMR spectra were fully assigned by the application of HETCOR, COLOC, COSY, NOESY and DEPT experiments. It was shown on the basis of NOESY experiments that both cadinanes require revision at the stereogenic centre C-7.  相似文献

We present the point of view that both the vortices and the east-west zonal winds of Jupiter are confined to the planet's shallow weather layer and that their dynamics is completely described by the weakly dissipated, weakly forced quasigeostrophic (QG) equation. The weather layer is the region just below the tropopause and contains the visible clouds. The forcing mimics the overshoot of fluid from an underlying convection zone. The late-time solutions of the weakly forced and dissipated QG equations appear to be a small subset of the unforced and undissipated equations and are robust attractors. We illustrate QG vortex dynamics and attempt to explain the important features of Jupiter's Great Red Spot and other vortices: their shapes, locations with respect to the extrema of the east-west winds, stagnation points, numbers as a function of latitude, mergers, break-ups, cloud morphologies, internal distributions of vorticity, and signs of rotation with respect to both the planet's rotation and the shear of their surrounding east-west winds. Initial-value calculations in which the weather layer starts at rest produce oscillatory east-west winds. Like the Jovian winds, the winds are east-west asymmetric and have Karman vortex streets located only at the west-going jets. From numerical calculations we present an empirically derived energy criterion that determines whether QG vortices survive in oscillatory zonal flows with nonzero potential vorticity gradients. We show that a recent proof that claims that all QG vortices decay when embedded in oscillatory zonal flows is too restrictive in its assumptions. We show that the asymmetries in the cloud morphologies and numbers of cyclones and anticyclones can be accounted for by a QG model of the Jovian atmosphere, and we compare the QG model with competing models.  相似文献

Using a coarse-grained molecular model we study the spatial distribution of lipid domains on a 20-nm-sized vesicle. The lipid mixture laterally phase separates into a raftlike, liquid-ordered (l(o)) phase and a liquid-disordered phase. As we uniaxially compress the mixed vesicle keeping the enclosed volume constant, we impart tension onto the membrane. The vesicle adopts a barrel shape, which is composed of two flat contact zones and a curved edge. The l(o) domain, which exhibits a higher bending rigidity, segregates to the highly curved edge. This inverted domain sorting switches to normal domain sorting, where the l(o) domain prefers the flat contact zone, when we release the contents of the vesicle. We rationalize this domain sorting by a pronounced reduction of the bending rigidity and area compressibility of the l(o) phase upon bending.  相似文献
