A comparative study between the sonolytic, photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic oxidation processes of aqueous solutions of malachite green was carried out in the presence of carbon tetrachloride, under a low power ultrasonic field (<15 W) and using titanium dioxide as a photocatalyst. The effect of a number of parameters such as ultrasonic intensity, TiO2 crystalline structure and the presence of CCl4 were studied using an inexpensive reactor. Enhanced rates of sonolytic degradation of malachite green in the presence of CCl4 were demonstrated. On the other hand, the simultaneous use of sonolysis and photocatalysis in the presence of CCl4 does not improve the degradation rate of malachite green in comparison with the one obtained using only sonolysis, but it makes possible a faster oxidative degradation of some reaction intermediaries. Finally, in air saturated solutions both processes, the sonolytic and the photocatalytic one, follow a first-order rate law.  相似文献

The elastic properties of nanotubes fabricated by layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of polyelectrolytes in the nanopores of polycarbonate track-etched membranes have been investigated by resonant contact Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), for nanotube diameters in the range of 100 to 200 nm. The elastic modulus of the nanotubes was computed from the resonance frequencies of a cantilever resting on freely suspended LbL nanotubes. An average value of 115 MPa was found in air for Young's modulus of these nanostructures, well below the values reported for dry, flat multilayers, but in the range of values reported for water-swollen flat multilayers. These low values are most probably due to the lower degree of ionic cross-linking of LbL nanotubes and their consequently higher water content in air, resulting from the peculiar mode of growth of nanoconfined polyelectrolyte multilayers.  相似文献

Background

We have recorded responses from single neurons in murine visual cortex to determine the effectiveness of the input from the two murine cone photoreceptor mechanisms and whether there is any unique selectivity for cone inputs at this higher region of the visual system that would support the possibility of colour vision in mice. Each eye was stimulated by diffuse light, either 370 (strong stimulus for the ultra-violet (UV) cone opsin) or 505 nm (exclusively stimulating the middle wavelength sensitive (M) cone opsin), obtained from light emitting diodes (LEDs) in the presence of a strong adapting light that suppressed the responses of rods.

Results

Single cells responded to these diffuse stimuli in all areas of striate cortex. Two types of responsive cells were encountered. One type (135/323 – 42%) had little to no spontaneous activity and responded at either the on and/or the off phase of the light stimulus with a few impulses often of relatively large amplitude. A second type (166/323 – 51%) had spontaneous activity and responded tonically to light stimuli with impulses often of small amplitude. Most of the cells responded similarly to both spectral stimuli. A few (18/323 – 6%) responded strongly or exclusively to one or the other spectral stimulus and rarely in a spectrally opponent manner.

Conclusion

Most cells in murine striate cortex receive excitatory inputs from both UV- and M-cones. A small fraction shows either strong selectivity for one or the other cone mechanism and occasionally cone opponent responses. Cells that could underlie chromatic contrast detection are present but extremely rare in murine striate cortex.  相似文献

Nitramine explosives can combine relative insensitivity to initiation and great energy content. In this work, based on a previous approach developed for nitroaromatic explosives, we propose four mathematical models to correlate impact sensitivity, given by the h50 value, to molecular charge properties. Fourteen cyclic nitramines were studied using Density Functional Theory (DFT). Six molecules of the set have measured h50 values, which were used to evaluate the sensitivity models. Converged DFT charge densities of the molecules were partitioned and analyzed according to the distributed multipole analysis (DMA) atom-centered method. The sensitivity models were based on the DMA electric multipole values. The electron withdrawing role of the nitro group and the strong polarization of the charges of the nitrogen atom in the amine group were clearly identified. The influence of the electronic properties on the sensitivity of the explosives was characterized by including in the sensitivity models the charge values of the nitro or the nitramine groups and electron delocalization, the latter quantified by the DMA quadrupole values of the ring atoms. Inclusion of electron delocalization effects can improve the prediction of h50 values for two out of the five strained-ring nitramines in the set. The charge values of the nitramine groups are the most important molecular property affecting the impact sensitivity. The h50 values of eight nitramine explosives of the set not available experimentally were computed.  相似文献

Dead Sea climatotherapy (DSC) is a well‐established therapeutic modality for the treatment of several diseases, including atopic dermatitis. Skin microbiome studies have shown that skin microbiome diversity is anticorrelated with both atopic dermatitis severity and concurrent Staphylococcus aureus overgrowth. This study aimed to determine whether DSC induces skin microbiome changes concurrent with clinical improvements in atopic dermatitis. We sampled 35 atopic dermatitis patients and ten healthy controls on both the antecubital and popliteal fossa. High‐resolution microbial community profiling was attained by sequencing multiple regions of the 16S rRNA gene. Dysbiosis was observed in both lesional and nonlesional sites, which was partially attenuated following treatment. Severe AD skin underwent the most significant community shifts, and Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus mitis and Micrococcus luteus relative abundance were significantly affected by Dead Sea climatotherapy. Our study highlights the temporal shifts of the AD skin microbiome induced by Dead Sea climatotherapy and offers potential explanations for the success of climatotherapy on a variety of skin diseases, including AD.  相似文献

Understanding personal ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure is essential for the evaluation of the health risks and benefits; however, personal dosimetry could be challenging in large‐scale or/and long‐term population studies. Alternatively, personal exposure could be simulated using three‐dimensional models and lifestyle surveys together with data on a body position with respect to the sun. These models require a real‐time input on local environmental UVR. The main challenge in using this method is retrieval of the diffuse irradiance as it requires an often‐expensive tracking of solar position. In this study, a hypothesis that UVR measured on a vertical plane in the north direction can be used in the UK as a proxy for diffuse radiation was tested against direct measurements and compared with models based on solar tracker data in Chilton, UK, (51.57°N) in June–July 2018. The statistical analysis over 17 days under all weather conditions showed that for 45° and 90° tilted surfaces the proposed method performed as well as the best of the models based on solar tracker data. A proposed system could offer a portable and low‐cost alternative to measurements of diffuse radiation by solar tracking radiometers for spatial distribution of terrestrial erythema effective UVR in population field studies.  相似文献
