Near infrared and visible luminescence of U-doped PbCl2 single crystals

Good optical quality U³⁺-doped PbCl₂ single crystals of the composition Pb_0.99U_0.01Cl₂ have been obtained by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. Luminescence spectra of the crystals were recorded in a wide spectral range at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures, and are discussed. Strong infrared emission was observed under 514 nm laser pumping to the 5f²6d¹ bands. The lifetimes of the emitting levels in the visible and near infrared region are given.     

High‐energy‐resolution diced spherical quartz analyzers for resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering

A novel diced spherical quartz analyzer for use in resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (RIXS) is introduced, achieving an unprecedented energy resolution of 10.53 meV at the Ir L₃ absorption edge (11.215 keV). In this work the fabrication process and the characterization of the analyzer are presented, and an example of a RIXS spectrum of magnetic excitations in a Sr₃Ir₂O₇ sample is shown.     

Vortex fluctuations in underdoped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) crystals

Vortex thermal fluctuations in heavily underdoped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) (T(c)=69.4 K) are studied using Josephson plasma resonance. From the zero-field data, we obtain the c-axis penetration depth lambda(L,c)(0)=230+/-10 micrometer and the anisotropy ratio gamma(T). The low plasma frequency allows us to study phase correlations over the whole vortex solid state and to extract a wandering length r(w) of vortex pancakes. The temperature dependence of r(w) as well as its increase with dc magnetic field is explained by the renormalization of the vortex line tension by the fluctuations, suggesting that this softening is responsible for the dissociation of the vortices at the first order transition.     

Spectral Properties of Amphiflavins in Polymer Matrices

The parameters characterizing the absorption, fluorescence and phosphorescence of 10-dodecylisoalloxazine (DIA), 10-octadecylisoalloxazine (OIA) 3-methyl-10-dodecylisoalloxazine (MDIA) embedded into polymeric matrices (polystyrene – PS, polymethacrylate methyl – PMM and poly(vinyl alcohol) – PVA) were studied. It was found that both the polarity of microenvironment and its structure influenced the changes of the spectral properties of the examined amphiflavins.     

The Computer-Aided Design,Synthesis, and Activity Prediction of New Leucine Aminopeptidase Inhibitors

The design, stereo-, and enantioselective synthesis and activity prediction of aminophosphonic acids as new leucine aminopeptidase inhibitors will be discussed.     

Facile Synthesis of bis‐α‐Aminoalkylphosphinates

Herein we report a facile synthesis of esters of bis‐α‐aminoalkylphosphinic acids obtained by an addition of Cbz‐protected phosphinic analogues of amino acid methyl esters to an appropriate imine in refluxing benzene. Complete deprotection of the esters could be achieved in one step by the action of 30% HBr in acetic acid.
