Semiquantitative determination of micro amounts of iron,copper, cobalt,nickel, and zinc in blood and tissue by circular thin-layer chromatography

Summary A semiquantitative method for the determination of iron, copper, cobalt, nickel and zinc is described which is based on circular thin-layer chromatographic technique. The error is minimized to ± 5% and interference of about 40 metal ions is removed by solvent extraction. The application of the method has been demonstrated by the determination of these metal ions in human blood and tissue and the method is suggested for the study of airborne particulates.

Zusammenfassung Ein halbquantitatives Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Eisen, Kupfer, Kobalt, Nickel und Zink auf dünnschicht-ringchromatographischem Wege wurde beschrieben. Der Fehler wurde auf ±5% eingeschränkt und die störende Wirkung von etwa 40 Metallionen durch Lösungsmittelextraktion beseitigt. Die Anwendbarkeit des Verfahrens für die Bestimmung in menschlichem Blut und Gewebe wurde gezeigt bzw. für die Untersuchung atmosphärischer Verunreinigungen empfohlen.

     

On series solution for generalized Falkner–Skan flow of a FENE‐P model

This paper deals with the viscoelastic boundary layer flow past a plate. Constitutive assumptions of the FENE‐P model are taken into account. The pressure gradient is taken as non‐zero. The series solution of the non‐linear problem modelled in (Appl. Math. Lett. 2007; 20 :1211–1215) is developed by a homotopy analysis method (HAM). Numerical solution of the skin friction coefficient is also computed. Further a comparison between the numerical and HAM solutions is provided. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Hall and heat transfer effects on the steady flow of a generalized Burgers’ fluid induced by a sudden pull of eccentric rotating disks

This study looks at the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a generalized Burgers’ fluid between two heated disks rotating about noncoaxial axes normal to the disks. The steady flow and heat transfer analysis is investigated by providing exact analytic solutions. The effect of Hall current is taken into consideration. Calculations are carried out for velocity, temperature, force, and torque exerted by the fluid on one of the disks. The physical interpretation for the emerging parameters is discussed with the help of graphs. The results are compared with those available in the existing literature.

A direct, efficient method for the preparation of siRNAs containing ribo-like North bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane pseudosugars

An efficient method for the preparation of siRNAs modified with ribo-like North bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane pseudosugars is described. The combined use of 2'-O-(2-cyanoethoxymethyl) (CEM) and 2'-O-TBDMS protection was successfully employed for RNA synthesis with the added advantage that both groups were efficiently removed in a single step. The resulting North ribo-methanocarba-modified siRNAs are compatible with the intracellular RNAi machinery and can mediate specific degradation of target mRNA.
