Thermal decomposition of the [Pt(NH3)4]2+ complex in NaX zeolite

The effect of the calcination procedure on the decomposition of the [Pt(NH₃)₄]²⁺ complex in a cesium-containing NaX zeolite was studied by thermal decomposition accompanied by mass spectrometry and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, as well as electron paramagnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy. The decomposition of the complex took place in two steps. Under oxygen, the [Pt(NH₃)₄]²⁺ complex was first converted into the [Pt(NH₃)₂]²⁺ complex in the first step, with predominant nitrogen release. In the second step, corresponding to the decomposition of the remaining two amine ligands, NO was also formed and adsorbed. Oxygen paramagnetic species were also observed. Under He, the decomposition also occurred in two steps with H₂ release.     

Sensitivity analysis of the moments of the profit on an Income Protection Policy

The main purpose of this paper is to perform a sensitivity analysis where we quantify and analyse the effects on the mean of the profit on an Income Protection policy and two risk measures of changing the values of the transition intensities. All the calculations carried out are based on a multiple state model for Income Protection proposed in Continuous Mortality Investigation Committee (Continuous Mortality Investigation Reports 1991; 12 ). Within this model, we derive a formula for the mean of the profit, which enables to evaluate it more efficiently. In order to calculate the two risk measures we use the numerical algorithms for the calculation of the moments of the profit proposed by Waters (Insurance: Mathematics and Economics 1990; 9 :101–113). We carry out the sensitivity analysis considering two different situations: in the first situation, we update the premium rates used to calculate the moments of the profit, according to the changes in the values of the transition intensities; in the second one, we do not update the premium rates. Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction of aryl and heterocyclic bromides and aromatic polybromides on a Pd(II)‐hydrotalcite catalyst

The Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction of various bromine‐containing substrates and phenylboronic acid in toluene at 90 °C on a Pd(AcO)₂Py₂ catalyst supported on an Mg? Al hydrotalcite, using K₂CO₃ as the base, was studied. The conversion and selectivity results obtained for many of the substrates were excellent and similar to those provided by more active or even homogeneous catalysts. The reactions of aryl polybromides and phenylboronic acid gave the corresponding polyaromatic compounds in variable yields depending on the particular substrate. Arylation occurred in a consecutive manner by substitution of the different Br atoms. ICP‐MS measurements of the palladium content of the catalyst performed prior to and after the reaction revealed that part of the metal is incorporated into the bulk solution; therefore, the catalytic process is not purely heterogeneous. The lock‐in phase in the urotropine–sebacic acid system

The 1,10‐decane­dioic acid–1,3,5,7‐tetra­aza­tri­cyclo­[3.3.1.1^3,7]­decane (1/1) system, C₁₀H₁₈O₄·C₆H₁₂N₄, was studied at 215 (2) K. Its analysis provides important information with regard to the long‐standing acid–carboxyl­ate controversy in the urotropine–alkanedioic acid system. In the present structure, all the chain end‐groups display a clear acid character. The asymmetric unit of this commensurate modulated phase contains two mol­ecules of diacid as well as two mol­ecules of urotropine. Furthermore, the chain packing suggests a possible order parameter for the lock‐in transition.     

The time-evolution operator for singular Lagrangians

We give an intrinsic characterization of an operator K recently introduced for relating the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian constraints and describing the time evolution of functions in T ^*Q in terms of those of TQ. Its most remarkable properties are also studied.     

Nanotubes Made from Deeply Undercooled Cryolite/Alumina Melts

The rapid‐solidification processing (by a cooling rate of 10⁵–10⁶ K/s) was used for the preparation of deeply undercooled cryolite/alumina (Na₃AlF₆/Al₂O₃) melts. We found a mass of nanotubes on the surface of these undercooled melts. The nanotubes were preferentially located on the defect places of the surface with the following approximate dimensions: base≈100×100 nm, length≈1000 nm. The solidified samples with the nanotubes on the surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and infrared spectroscopy (IR).
