Stationary policies and Markov policies in Borel dynamic programming

Summary The question of the existence of good Markov [good stationary] policies is studied for a general class of Borel [stationary] dynamic programming models. Preparative and electrochemical investigations on the electron sponge behavior of cobalt telluride clusters: CO substitution in [Co11Te7(CO)10]n- ions (n=1, 2) by PMe2Ph and crystal structure of [Co11Te7(CO)5(PMe2Ph)5

The reaction of the cluster salts [Cp(2*) Nb(CO)(2)](n)[Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10)] (Cp*=C(5)Me(5); n=1, 2) with excess PMe(2)Ph gave the neutral, dark brown clusters [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(6)(PMe(2)Ph)(4)] (5) and [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(5)(PMe(2)Ph)(5)] (6) with 147 metal valence electrons. The new compounds were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and mass spectrometry. The molecular structure of 6 was determined by X-ray crystallography. Like its precursor anion, it consists of a pentagonal-prismatic [Co(11)Te(7)] core, but with a ligand sphere composed of five CO and five PMe(2)Ph ligands. Detailed electrochemical studies of both reactions reveal that a stepwise substitution of CO ligands in the initial cluster anions takes place leading to intermediate [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10-m)(PMe(2)Ph)(m)](n-) ions (m=1-5; n=1, 2). Each of these intermediates is distinguished by at least one oxidation and two reduction waves, giving rise to a total of 21 redox couples and 27 electroactive species. The electron sponge character of the new compounds is particularly pronounced in 5, which exhibits charges n between +1 and -4 corresponding to metal valence electron counts of between 146 and 151.

In addition totrans-2-bromocyclooctanol andtrans-1,2-dibromocyclooctane,cis-4-bromocyclooctanol,cis-1,4-dibromocyclooctane,trans-1,4-dibromocyclooctane, and (Z)-5-bromocyclooctene are obtained, when (Z)-cyclooctene is treated with N-bromosuccinimide in the presence of water. Similarly the methoxybromination of (Z)-cyclooctene gives transanular products.     

Molekulargewichtsbestimmung durch Gelchromatographie von Oligoimidophosphorsäureamiden

Determination of Molecular Weights by Gel Chromatography of Oligoimidoamides of Phosphoric Acid. Oligoimidoamides of phosphoric acid were eluted with nonionic water on a Sephadex LH-20 column. The measured distribution coefficient of the oligoimidoamides of phosphoric acid was independent of sample concentration and pH of the eluent. Andrews equation was obeyed: a linear relation exist between elution volume and logarithm of molecular weight both cyclic and acyclic oligoimidoamides of phosphoric acid.     

New developments in millimeter wave spectroscopy

In the past few years millimeter and submillimeter wave spectroscopy has been the backbone for modern molecular line astronomy. The detection of unstable and high-temperature molecular species in the interstellar environment has stimulated the development of methods of detecting molecular ions, radicals and unstable molecules in the laboratory by means of millimeter wave technology. Some of the recent experimental advances as well as the developments which have occurred in the analysis of high resolution rotational and vibrational spectra with regard to understanding molecular dynamics will be discussed.     

Sorptionseffekte an Eisen(III)-hydroxid-F?llungen

Zusammenfassung Um Material zur Deutung des Mechanismus der Sorption von Sr²⁺-Ionen an Eisen(III)-hydroxid zu gewinnen, werden Meßreihen mitgeteilt, in denen die pH-Abhängigkeit der Sorption sowie deren Beeinflussung bei Fällung mit verschiedenen Basen (NaOH, Ammoniak, Trimethylamin, Benzylamin) untersucht wird. Aus den charakteristischen Unterschieden der Sorptionskurven muß gefolgert werden, daß die Art der Base für die Sorption eine wichtige Rolle spielt.

Summary The sorption of Sr²⁺ ions on iron(III) hydroxide was studied as a function of the pH, of the precipitating reagent (NaOH, ammonium hydroxide, benzylamine, trimethylamine), of the temperature and of the total concentration.The curves of the relative sorption vs. pH are found to show characteristic differences which have to be explained in a detailed theory of the mechanism.

     

Hybrid catalysts: the synthesis, structure and ethene polymerisation activity of (salicylaldiminato)(pyrrolylaldiminato) titanium complexes

The mono(salicylaldiminato) complexes Ti{3-tBu-2-(O)C6H3CH=N(R)}Cl3(THF)(where R = C6H5, C6F5) react with the metallated pyrrolylaldiminato ligand, K[2-(C6H5NCH)C4H3N], to afford the first examples of hybrid salicylaldiminato-ligated octahedral titanium complexes; the pre-catalysts give from very high to extremely high ethene polymerisation productivities when activated with MAO.     

Negatively charged hyperbranched polyether-based polyelectrolytes

The preparation of carboxylated hyperbranched polyglycerols of narrow polydispersity was achieved by modification (78–90%) of the hydroxyl end groups via Michael addition of acrylonitrile, followed by hydrolysis. High conversion could only be achieved for low molecular weight starting materials (520 and 1,030 g mol⁻¹). The solution properties of the resulting materials were investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS), showing the formation of large aggregates with size depending on the pH value. After deposition on a negatively charged mica surface, the structures observed by atomic force microscope (AFM) show the coexistence of aggregates and single macromolecules. Most interesting, in the case of the lower molecular weight sample (PG 520 g mol⁻¹), extended and ordered terrace structures were formed, which are unprecedented for hyperbranched polymers and are of interest for surface modification in general.     

Transannular O-heterocyclization of twelve and thirteen membered trienes by methoxybromination procedure

The reaction of (E,E,Z)-cyclododeca-1.5,9-triene (1) with NBS and methanol gives bicyclic tetrahydrofuran derivatives (3) and (4) as well as usual 1,2-addition products while the related reaction with (Z,E,Z)-cyclotrideca-1,5,9-triene (7) leads to the bicyclic tetrahydropyran derivative (6), in both cases like O-heterocyclization products as the result of transannular participation of a methoxy group.
