Preparation of β-alkylsubstituted α,β-unsaturated aldehydes using a new d³-reagent is described.     

Dianion derivatives of methyl- and isopropyl-2.4-pentadienedithioate as d5-reagents

Li-K-Derivatives of the dianions $\text{4}$ are generated. Reactions with carbonyl compounds occur at the ω-position to yield $\text{6}$ - $\text{9}$.     

Alpha-arylsulfanyl-alpha-fluoro carbenoids: their novel chemistry and synthetic applications

The bromine-magnesium exchange reactions of arylthiobromodifluoromethanes with Grignard reagents have been studied. Upon trapping with electrophiles, alkyl aryl sulfides and ketenedithioacetals are obtained. The reaction is proposed to occur via novel alpha-arylsulfanyl-alpha-fluoro carbenoids. The first examples of arylthiomethane multipole synthons are also reported. [reaction: see text]     

IBX/n-Bu4NBr/CH2Cl2-H2O: a new mild system for selective oxidation of secondary alcohols

A new alternative system for the chemoselective oxidation of secondary hydroxyl group to ketone with IBX/n-Bu₄NBr in CH₂Cl₂-H₂O has been developed. Under the reaction conditions, the secondary hydroxyl group was highly chemoselectively oxidized to the corresponding ketone, in moderate to good yields at rt, in the presence of primary hydroxyl group within the same molecule.     

Intramolecular acylation of α-sulfinyl carbanion: A new general route to 5-substituted Δ2 cyclopentenones

A general method for the preparation of 5-substituted Δ²-cyclopentenones $\text{via}$ the intramolecular acylation of $\text{αot}$-sulfinyl carbanions has been demonstrated.

A convenient synthesis of 5-methylene-2-cyclopentenones including Methylenomycin B involving the intramolecular acylation of α-sulfinyl carbanion followed by methylation and pyrolysis is described.     

One-Pot Synthesis of 3,4-Dihydropyrimidine-2-(1H)-ones Using CsF–Celite as Catalyst

A facile, efficient, and environmentally benign procedure for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones via the cyclocondensation reaction of aromatic aldehyde, ethyl acetoaceate, and urea catalyzed by CsF–Celite was developed. This environmentally friendly method is superior to previous methods with respect to reaction time, yield, and workup.     

Vicinal dianions of diethyl α-aroylsuccinates: preparation of functionalized-2,3-dihydrofurans and -furans, and diaxial 2,4-diaryl-3,7-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octanes

Vicinal dianions of diethyl α-aroylsuccinates react with aromatic aldehydes to provide functionalized 2,3-dihydrofurans as the major products together with γ-butyrolactones after treatment of the adducts obtained with a catalytic amount of p-toluenesulfonic acid in refluxing toluene. cis-2,3-Dihydrofurans are used as precursors for the preparation of tetrasubstituted furans and diaxial 2,4-diaryl-3,7-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octanes.
