Enantioselective Addition of Allylic Trimethoxysilanes to Aldehydes Catalyzed by p-Tol-BINAP small middle dotAgF

Catalytic asymmetric allylation of aldehydes with allylic trimethoxysilanes was achieved with the p-Tol-BINAP small middle dotAgF complex as catalyst [Eq. (a); p-Tol-BINAP=2,2'-bis(di-p-tolylphosphanyl)-1,1'-binaphthyl)]. High anti and enantioselectivities were obtained in the reaction with crotyltrimethoxysilane, irrespective of the configuration at the double bond.     

Substituent effects of iridium complexes for highly efficient red OLEDs

This study reports substituent effects of iridium complexes with 1-phenylisoquinoline ligands. The emission spectra and phosphorescence quantum yields of the complexes differ from that of tris(1-phenylisoquinolinato-C2,N)iridium(iii)(Irpiq) depending on the substituents. The maximum emission peak, quantum yield and lifetime of those complexes ranged from 598-635 nm, 0.17-0.32 and 1.07-2.34 micros, respectively. This indicates the nature of the substituents has a significant influence on the kinetics of the excited-state decay. The substituents attached to phenyl ring have an influence on a stability of the HOMO. Furthermore, those substituents have effect on the contribution to a mixing between 3pi-pi* and (3)MLCT for the lowest excited states. Some of the complexes display the larger quantum yield than Irpiq, which has the quantum yield of 0.22. The organic light emitting diode (OLED) device based on tris [1-(4-fluoro-5-methylphenyl)isoquinolinato-C2,N]iridium(iii)(Ir4F5Mpiq) yielded high external quantum efficiency of 15.5% and a power efficiency of 12.4 lm W(-1) at a luminance of 218 cd m(-2). An emission color of the device was close to an NTSC specification with CIE chromaticity characteristics of (0.66, 0.34).     

Definitive assignments of the visible-near-IR bands of porphyrin-naphthalocyanine rare-earth sandwich double- and triple-decker compounds by magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy

A series of heteroleptic rare-earth sandwich complexes [M(Nc)(OEP)] (M = La, Nd, Eu, Dy, and Lu; Nc = 2,3-naphthalocyaninate; OEP = octaethylporphyrinate) have been investigated by electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy. The electronic absorption spectra of the neutral forms showed two characteristic transitions (bands I and II) in the near-IR region, both of which were systematically shifted depending on the size of their central metal. In the MCD spectra, a relatively intense Faraday A term and a significantly weak Faraday B term have been observed corresponding to bands II and I, respectively. The spectral features were successfully interpreted using a simple MO model by considering the relevant interactions of Gouterman's four orbitals of the constituent chromophores. The model succeeded in assigning the MCD spectra of the related compounds, the oxidized and reduced forms of the dimer ([M(Nc)(OEP)]+ and [M(Nc)(OEP)]-), and neutral forms of the triple-decker compounds (M2(Nc)(OEP)2, M = Nd, Eu). DFT calculations of the dimers supported the validity of this model.     

Fluorescence modification of Gb3 oligosaccharide and rapid synthesis of oligosaccharide moieties using fluorous protective group

The use of the bisfluorous chain-type propanoyl (Bfp) group as a fluorous protective group made it possible to rapidly synthesize the Gb2 and Gb3 oligosaccharide derivatives by a simple fluorous-organic extraction purification. Furthermore, the fluorescence-labeled Gb2 and Gb3 oligosaccharides were prepared as a potential Vero Toxins detecting reagent.     

Multicomponent Strecker Reaction under High Pressure

For the first time, uncatalyzed, high‐pressure (0.6 GPa) reactions with ketones have proven to be a powerful way to perform the three‐component Strecker synthesis of α‐amino nitriles in high yields. Two types of double Strecker reactions were achieved, but attempts to perform triple Strecker reactions were unsuccessful.     

Fluorometric quantification of total d-gluconate by a flow-injection system using an immobilized-enzyme reactor

A method for the quantification of total d-gluconate by flow-injection analysis was developed using an immobilized-enzyme reactor and fluorescence detection. d-Gluconate was quantified using co-immobilized gluconate kinase (GK) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGDH) reactor. d-Gluconate was phosphorylated to 6-phospho-d-gluconate by GK in the presence of ATP, and then the 6-phospho-d-gluconate produced was oxidized by PGDH with NADP⁺. The NADPH produced by the GK-PGDH reactor was monitored fluorometrically at 455 nm (excitation at 340 nm). A linear relationship between the responses and concentrations of d-gluconate was obtained in the ranges of 1.0 × 10⁻⁶–1.6 × 10⁻⁴ M. The relative standard deviation for 10 successive injections was 0.57% at the 0.1 mM level. This analytical method was applied to the quantification of d-gluconate in honeys, vinegars and noble rot wines, and the results showed good agreement with those obtained using the conventional F-kit method.     

The adsorption structure of nonionic surfactant on the sessile mercury electrode in a thin liquid film

In relation to a colloid stability, the adsorption structure of the Stern layer on a sessile mercury electrode in a thin liquid film of nonionic surfactant was investigated by measuring the double layer capacitance. The Stern capacitance on the electrode in the film could be detected when the measuring frequency used was low, for the resistance of the film was not extremely high but of the order of several thousand ohm. It was found that the adsorption structure of nonionic surfactant in the thin liquid film shows a stratification different from that of bulk.     

Diarrhetic shellfish toxins

As the causative agents of a new type of shellfish poisoning, named diarrhetic shellfish poisoning, okadaic acid, 35(S)-methylokadaic acid, 7-O-acyl derivatives of 35(S)-methylokadaic acid, two novel polyether lactones named pectenotoxin-1 and -2 have been isolated and had their structures determined. Three pectenotoxin analogues were also present. In addition to the previously identified Dinophysis fortii, D. acuminata was newly suggested as a source of toxins.     

Analysis of free fatty acids by a micro-liquid chromatograph directly coupled with a mass spectrometer through a vacuum nebulizing interface

A liquid chromatograph directly coupled with a quadrupole mass spectrometer through a vacuum nebulizing interface was applied to the analysis of various free fatty acids. Chemical ionization mass spectra of the C₇? C₂₂ free fatty acids were first examined using either methanol or benzene as the reagents. Then the practical compositional analysis of the fatty acids were performed with various biological samples such as bean oil, rape oil, palm oil and milk fat where most of the fatty acids are included as their triglycerides.
