The vortical structure of a circular water jet was investigated by a flow visualization technique. The jet was excited by axial and azimuthal perturbations to stabilize and enhance the large-scale axisymmetric and streamwise vortices. A laser fluorescent dye and a laser light sheet were used to visualize the vortical structure, and the whole view of the structure was captured by applying the Taylor hypothesis to the cross-sectional images and by scanning a laser light sheet in the streamwise direction. The visualized images reveal the details of the complicated structure of axisymmetric and streamwise vortices, and it is confirmed that the streamwise vortices have fundamental effect on the entrainment of ambient fluid. From the images, the length of jet boundary was calculated to estimate the mixing effect. The result suggests that the jet mixing is significantly increased by the break-down of the vortices enhanced by axial and azimuthal perturbations. We also discussed the jet diffusion effect in consideration of the jet widths obtained by velocity measurement. The result indicates that the vortical structure including streamwise vortices plays an important role to enhance diffusion.  相似文献

ZnO thin films were prepared on silicon substrate with Pt electrode by the sol-gel processing using Zn alkoxide solution prepared from Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and 2-methoxyethanol. FT-IR spectroscopy showed the presence of Zn species in the alkoxide, with methoxyethoxide and nitrato groups as coordination ligands, indicating formation of Zn(NO3)(OCH2CH2OCH3). Smooth and homogeneous thin films were obtained by heat treating coating gel films in the temperature range from 250 to 500°C. The ZnO thin films exhibited a preferred growth of crystals with c-axis perpendicular to the Si substrate surface when fired at 250°C. It was discussed that the presence of nitrogen atoms in precursors had affected the phase development of crystals and was the basis of the structural relaxation for crystallization at low temperature.  相似文献

Three kinds of surface-coil-type resonators (SCRs) operating at 720 MHz were fabricated for in vivo temporal electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. The inner diameter of the singleturn coil of the SCRs was 3, 4, or 10 mm. ResonatorQ increases and the detection limit decreases with coil diameter. The distance across which the microwave magnetic field can penetrate in the direction facing to the coil was about the same (about 2 mm) for all SCRs. In vivo kinetic studies of intravenously injected 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-l-oxyl (TEMPOL) were performed at the liver, kidney, stomach, rectum, vein, and skin of rats with SCRs suited to the target areas. The halflife of TEMPOL was estimated from the exponential decay of the ESR signal intensity (the peak-to-peak height). Different sites in the rat showed apparent differences in the half-life of TEMPOL. This suggests that the apparent differences in the reducing ability of TEMPOL are related to the organ or tissue where measurement is taken because no excretion of TEMPOL was observed.  相似文献

Peptides bearing β‐cyclodextrin and 4‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)benzoyl (DMAB) units in the peptide side chains were prepared as chemosensors for molecule detection. The DMAB unit was expected to be included into the cyclodextrin cavity intramolecularly. However, these peptides exhibited no twisted intramolecular charge transfer fluorescence and the normal fluorescence intensity decreased upon the addition of 1‐adamantanol as an exogenous guest, indicating that the DMAB units are shallowly included in the cyclodextrin cavities.  相似文献

Cluster size effects of SiO2 thin film formation with size-selected O2 gas cluster ion beams (GCIBs) irradiation on Si surface were studied. The cluster size varied between 500 and 20,000 molecules/cluster. With acceleration voltage of 5 kV, the SiO2 thickness was close to the native oxide thickness by irradiation of (O2)20,000 (0.25 eV/molecule), or (O2)10,000 (0.5 eV/molecule). However, it increased suddenly above 1 eV/molecule (5000 molecules/cluster), and increased monotonically up to 10 eV/molecule (500 molecules/cluster). The SiO2 thickness with 1 and 10 eV/molecule O2-GCIB were 2.1 and 5.0 nm, respectively. When the acceleration voltage was 30 kV, the SiO2 thickness has a peak around 10 eV/molecule (3000 molecules/cluster), and it decreased gradually with increasing the energy/molecule. At high energy/molecule, physical sputtering effect became more dominant process than oxide formation. These results suggest that SiO2 thin film formation can be controlled by energy per molecule.  相似文献

Our group “ASACUSA MUSASHI” has established an efficient way for accumulating antiprotons and extracting them as intense ultra-slow mono-energetic beams at the CERN-AD facility. This novel beam opens new frontiers for investigating a variety of physics. For realizing H? spectroscopy and the test for charge-parity-time symmetry, we have also developed the cusp trap, a combination of an anti-Helmholz superconducting coil and a multi-ring electrode trap, for trapping both antiprotons and positrons and then synthesizing antihydrogens. Recently, the cusp trap was practically used to accumulate antiprotons. The last piece for synthesizing antihydrogens in the cusp trap is the positron accumulator. We have developed a compact system to effectively accumulate positrons based on N2 gas-buffer scheme with a specially designed high precision cylindrical multi-ring electrode trap. The recent progress of the developing work is an important milestone for upcoming antihydrogen science of ASACUSA MUSASHI.  相似文献

Because microperforated panels (MPPs), which can be made from various materials, provide wide-band sound absorption, they are recognized as one of the next-generation absorption materials. Although MPPs are typically placed in front of rigid walls, MPP space sound absorbers without a backing structure, including three-dimensional cylindrical MPP space absorbers (CMSAs) and rectangular MPP space absorbers (RMSAs), are proposed to extend their design flexibility and easy-to-use properties. On the other hand, improving the absorption performance by filling the back cavity of typical MPP absorbers with porous materials has been shown theoretically, and three-dimensional MPP space absorbers should display similar improvements. Herein the effects of porous materials inserted into the cavities of CMSAs and RMSAs are experimentally investigated and a numerical prediction method using the two-dimensional boundary element method is proposed. Consequently, CMSAs and RMSAs with improved absorption performances are illustrated based on the experimental results, and the applicability of the proposed prediction method as a design tool is confirmed by comparing the experimental and numerical results.  相似文献

Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) can be used as a method to estimate the age of sediment deposition using the paramagnetic centre related to aluminium impurities in quartz. This so-called Al-centre can be partially optically bleached and its signal intensity decreases in relation to time exposure to solar light, until it reaches a plateau value corresponding to a residual signal. This signal can be attributed to “Deep Aluminium Traps” (DAT) which cannot be reset by an exposure to sunlight. In this study, we have investigated the behaviour of the DAT signal in samples from different origins and ages. The intensity of the DAT signal has been isolated from the total aluminium signal by the exposure of different quartz samples to simulated solar light. We observed that the DAT intensities were sample dependant and therefore it should be determined for each sample. Moreover, DAT intensities of Pleistocene volcanic quartz increase with gamma laboratory irradiation, whereas DAT intensities of sedimentary quartz do not vary with added artificial doses. This suggests that DAT in quartz extracted from sediments must be inherited from the primary source of the quartz, and were saturated at the time of sedimentation. We thereby validate the ESR dating of quartz sediment protocol used so far.  相似文献

Velocity of ultrasound waves has proved to be a useful indicator of bone biomechanical competence. A detailed understanding of the dependence of ultrasound parameters such as velocity on bone characteristics is a key to the development of bone quantitative ultrasound (QUS). The objective of this study is to investigate the relative contributions of porosity and mineralized matrix properties to the bulk compressional wave velocity (BCV) along the long bone axis. Cross-sectional slabs from the diaphysis of four human femurs were included in the study. Seven regions of interest (ROIs) were selected in each slab. BCV was measured in through-transmission at 5 MHz. Impedance of the mineralized matrix (Zm) and porosity (Por) were obtained from 50 MHz scanning acoustic microscopy. Por and Zm had comparable effects on BCV along the bone axis (R = −0.57 and R = 0.72, respectively).  相似文献

Covalently linked vancomycin dimers have attracted a great deal of attention among researchers because of their enhanced antibacterial activity against vancomycin‐resistant strains. However, the lack of a clear insight into the mechanisms of action of these dimers hampers rational optimization of their antibacterial potency. Here, we describe the synthesis and antibacterial activity of novel vancomycin dimers with a constrained molecular conformation achieved by two tethers between vancomycin units. Conformational restriction is a useful strategy for studying the relationship between the molecular topology and biological activity of compounds. In this study, two vancomycin units were linked at three distinct positions of the glycopeptide (vancosamine residue (V), C terminus (C), and N terminus (N)) to form two types of novel vancomycin cyclic dimers. Active NC‐VV‐linked dimers with a stable conformation as indicated by molecular mechanics calculations selectively suppressed the peptidoglycan polymerization reaction of vancomycin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. In addition, double‐disk diffusion tests indicated that the antibacterial activity of these dimers against vancomycin‐resistant enterococci might arise from the inhibition of enzymes responsible for peptidoglycan polymerization. These findings provide a new insight into the biological targets of vancomycin dimers and the conformational requirements for efficient antibacterial activity against vancomycin‐resistant strains.  相似文献
