Loops and the Lagrange Property

Let $\cal F$ be a family of finite loops closed under subloops and factor loops. Then every loop in $\cal F$ has the strong Lagrange property if and only if every simple loop in $\cal F$ has the weak Lagrange property. We exhibit several such families, and indicate how the Lagrange property enters into the problem of existence of finite simple loops.     

Approximation of convex bodies by simplices

This paper deals with the following kind of approximation of a convex bodyQ in Euclidean space E ⁿ by simplices: which is the smallest positive numberh _S(Q) such thatS ₁ Q S ₂ for a simplexS ₁ and its homothetic copyS ₂ of ratioh _S(Q). It is shown that ifS ₀ is a simplex of maximal volume contained inQ, then a homothetic copy ofS ₀ of ratio 13/3 containsQ.     

Measurement of the electron distribution function in flowing afterglow plasma by means of Langmuir probe

Conclusion In the present report an attempt has been made to use the second derivative method for measurements of the electron distribution function in flowing afterglow plasma. It has been shown that using the cross-correlation technique, this method seems to be a useful tool for flowing afterglow plasma investigation.

Energy flux through thin dielectric film when total reflection is disturbed

It is shown that the energy flux through a thin dielectric film when total reflection is disturbed is brought about by the interference Poynting vector.

     

A study of the contrast on growth striations in silicon by X-ray double crystal topography in the Laue case

The image of growth striations in Si formed by the double crystal X-ray topography in the Laue case (DCTL) is investigated. The results of the dynamical diffraction theory for crystals with small microdefects have been compared with the contrast behaviour determined experimentally. It has been found that the theory explains qualitatively the contrast on the striations and it has been demonstrated that the DCTL method is suitable for detection of the presence of small microdefects in growth striations. Since the paper completes a series of papers on X-ray topography of growth striations, some general conclusions are formulated concerning the applicability of the X-ray topographical methods to the investigation of the structure of the growth striations     

Excitation functions for some output channels following the p +55Mn interaction atE p=1·3–2·0 MeV

Excitation functions for the⁵⁵Mn(p, p )⁵⁵Mn,⁵⁵Mn(p, n )⁵⁵Fe and⁵⁵Mn(p, )⁵⁶Fe reactions are studied for proton beam energyE _p=1·3–2 MeV. The excitation functions are established from yield functions for -rays emitted from the first excited states of final nuclei. Many resonances are observed and competition of their decay into all three output channels is analysed. Spin-parity assignment for some resonant states in the⁵⁶Fe compound nucleus is deduced.Participated partly in the course of his work on a Thesis.The authors wish to thank the staff of the Van de Graaff accelerator at Charles University in Prague for the efficient operation of the machine and dr. Linear mode conversion of waves near the maxima or minima of the density in a warm magnetized plasma

Behaviour of the h. f. electrostatic waves near the plasma or upper hybrid resonances was studied in the case that these resonances are situated at the maxima or minima of the plasma density. Supposing the parabolic density profile in these regions we obtained the connection formulae for the WKB solutions. In a weakly inhomogeneous magnetoplasma the effect of the parabolic profile manifests itself only in narrow frequency band centred at the resonance frequency corresponding to the extreme value of the density. The whole process can be then described by only two coefficients, viz. the power conversion and power transmission coefficients.     

Studium der Abbaugeschwindigkeit der Oberfläche von markierten festen Stoffen zwecks reaktionskinetischer Untersuchungen, 2. Mitt.: Anwendung von mittels Diffusionstechnik hergestellten Trägern

Eine der oft angewandten Möglichkeiten der Markierung fester Träger mit gasförmigen Tracern ist die Diffusionstechnik. Die mit dieser Technik hergestellten Träger wurden zu reaktionskinetischen und analytischen Bestimmungen herangezogen. Im vorliegenden Artikel werden die Grenzen und die Möglichkeiten der Anwendung dieser Träger anhand der in der früheren Mitteilung abgeleiteten allgemeinen Erwägungen theoretisch begründet.     

New Einstein-Maxwell fields of Levi-Civita’s type

The method based on the Horsky-Mitskievitch conjecture is applied to the Levi-Civita vacuum metric. It is shown, that every Killing vector is connected with a particular class of Einstein-Maxwell fields and each of those classes is found explicitly. Some of the obtained classes are quite new. Radial geodesic motion in constructed space-times is discussed and graphically illustrated in the Appendix.
