Solubility of hydrogen sulfide in organic solvents

The solubilities of hydrogen sulfide expressed in mole fractions may be related, through multiparameter equations, to parameters that account for the specific and nonspecific solvation ability of the solvent and for the cohesion energy. The key factors are the self-association of the solvent, which reduces the solubility, and the complexing ability with hydrogen sulfide, which increases the solubility.

The selectivity in the reaction of tert-butyl hypochlorite with 2,3-dimethylbutane in various solvents may be described by a three-parameter correlation equation taking into account the ability of solvents to nonspecific solvation and their cohesion energy density.     

Solvent Effect in Swelling of Butyl Rubber and Polybutadiene

Relationship between the swellabilities of butyl rubber and polybutadiene in organic solvents and the physicochemical characteristics of solvents, including their capability for nonspecific and specific solvation, was studied.     

Effect of the Reactant Ratio on the Kinetics of Methanolysis of Acyl Chlorides

The apparent second-order rate constants for the reaction of methacryloyl chloride with methanol regularly increase on raising the acyl chloride-to-alcohol ratio. The variation of the rate constants is described by the Michaelis-Menten equation, indicating that the process involves initial formation of an associate with a probable structure of charge-transfer complex (CTC). Thermodynamic parameters of the CTC formation and rate constants and activation parameters for the transformation of CTC into the products have been determined.     

Quantitative Generalization of Solvent Effect on Radical Halogenation of Hydrocarbons

The dependences of the isomer ratio in photochemical chlorination of 2,3-dimethylbutane and of the selectivity in photochemical bromination of a mixture of cyclopropylbenzene and toluene may be described by linear multiparameter equations. Acceptor Properties of Trifluoroacetic Anhydride

Trifluoroacetic anhydride is a strong electron acceptor. Its enthalpies of mixing with various organic electron donors were determined, which are mostly controlled by acid-base interaction. A certain contribution into the enthalpies of mixing is also made by nonspecific solvation. This contribution can be accounted for by means of a three-parameter equation.     

Distribution and solubility of 8-hydroxyquinolines and their salts

Data on the distribution of 8-hydroxyquinoline, its methyl-substituted derivatives, and their salts with copper between organic and aqueous phases can be generalized using linear multiparametric equations that take into account the capacity of solvents for specific and nonspecific solvation.
