A sensitive and accurate High-Performance TLC (HPTLC) method has been developed to determine the quantity of 6-gingerol in rhizomes of Zingiber officinale (family: Zingiberaceae), commonly known as ginger. Methanol extracts of rhizomes from three different sources were used for HPTLC, n-hexane, and diethyl ether (40:60 v/v) as the mobile phase. The Rf of 6-gingerol was found to be 0.40. The calibration plot was linear in the range of 250-1200 ng of 6-gingerol and the correlation coefficient of 0.9997 was indicative of good linear dependence of peak area on concentration. The mean quantity of 6-gingerol was found to be 60.44+/-2.53 mg/g of ginger extract. The method permits reliable quantification of 6-gingerol and good resolution and separation of 6-gingerol from other constituents of ginger. To study the accuracy and precision of the method, recovery studies were performed by the method of standard addition. Recovery values from 99.79 to 99.84% showed the excellent reliability and reproducibility of the method. The proposed HPTLC method for quantitative monitoring of 6-gingerol in ginger can be used for routine quality testing of ginger extracts.  相似文献

Commercially available salicylaldehyde, in alkaline medium, exhibits strong fluorescence after one hour of UV exposure in the presence of AgI. The phenolic group of salicylaldehyde is converted into the quinone form under alkaline conditions in the presence of AgNO3, resulting in aggregated Ag(0), which causes approximately 250 times fluorescence enhancement of the in situ produced quinone. Such high silver‐enhanced‐fluorescence (SEF) is selectively quenched by cysteine, arginine, histidine, methionine, and tryptophan. In contrast to the other amino acids, ageing brings selectivity of the cysteine‐induced quenching effect. Interestingly, CuII is found to be the only metal ion that exclusively regenerates the lost fluorescence. Thus, quenching and recovery of fluorescence (Turn Off/On) can be used for the selective and sensitive detection of cysteine as well as CuII ions in one pot. Alteration of the electric field density around the fluorophore (lightening rod effect) and scattering/absorption cross‐section have been proposed to account for the Off/On fluorescence.  相似文献

A membrane structure consisting of an aligned array of open ended carbon nanotubes (7 nm i.d.) spanning across an inert polymer matrix allows the diffusive transport of aqueous ionic species through CNT cores. The plasma oxidation process that opens CNTs tips inherently introduces carboxylic acid groups at the CNT tips, which allows for a limited amount of chemical functional at the CNT pore entrance. However for numerous applications, it is important to increase the density of carboxylic acid groups at the pore entrance for effective separation processes. Aqueous diazonium-based electrochemistry significantly increases the functional density of carboxylic acid groups. pH dependent dye adsorption–desorption and interfacial capacitance measurements indicate 5–6 times increase in functional density. To further control the spatial location of the functional chemistry, a fast flowing inert liquid column inside the CNT core is found to restrict the diazonium grafting to the CNT tips only. This is confirmed by the increased flux of positively charged with anionic functionality. The electrostatic enhancement of ion diffusion is readily screened in 0.1 M electrolyte solution consistent with the membrane pore geometry and increased functional density.  相似文献

Membranes composed of an array of aligned carbon nanotubes, functionalized with charged molecular tethers, show voltage gated control of ionic transport through the cores of carbon nanotubes. The functional density of tethered charge molecules is substantially increased by the use of electrochemical grafting of diazonium salts. Functionality can be forced to occur at the CNT tip entrances by fast fluid flow of an inert solvent through the core during electrochemical functionalization. The selectivity between Ru(bi-pyridine)(3)2+ and methyl viologen2+ flux is found to be as high as 23 with -130 mV bias applied to the membrane as the working electrode. Changes in the flux and selectivity support a model where charged tethered molecules at the tips are drawn into the CNT core at positive bias. For molecules grafted along the CNT core, negative bias extends the tethered molecules into the core. Electrostatically actuated tethers induce steric hindrance in the CNT core to mimic voltage gated ion channels in a robust large area platform.  相似文献

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth most common cause of death from cancer in the world. The limitations of the currently available methods and biomarkers for CRC management highlight the necessity of finding novel markers. Metabonomics can be used to search for potential markers that can provide molecular insight into human CRC. The emergence of two-dimensional gas chromatography time of flight mass spectrometry (GC?×?GC/TOFMS) has comprehensively enhanced the metabolic space coverage of conventional GC/MS. In this study, a GC?×?GC/TOFMS was developed for the tissue-based global metabonomic profiling of CRC. A Pegasus GC?×?GC/TOFMS (Leco Corp., St. Joseph, MI, USA) system comprising an Agilent 7890 GC and Pegasus IV TOFMS was used for this purpose. An Agilent DB-1 (30 m?×?250 μm?×?0.25 μm) fused silica capillary column and a Restek Rxi®-17 (1 m?×?100 μm?×?0.10 μm) fused silica capillary column were used as the primary and secondary columns, respectively. The method was applied for global metabonomic profiling of matched CRC and normal tissues (n?=?63) obtained from 31 CRC patients during surgery. An attempt was also made to compare GC?×?GC/TOFMS with GC/MS and NMR in similar application. The results showed that the metabotype associated with CRC is distinct from that of normal tissue and led to the identification of chemically diverse marker metabolites. Metabolic pathway mapping suggested deregulation of various biochemical processes such as glycolysis, Krebs cycle, osmoregulation, steroid biosynthesis, eicosanoid biosynthesis, bile acid biosynthesis, lipid, amino acid and nucleotide metabolism.

An efficient synthetic method has been developed for the facile synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazoles in organized aqueous media in the presence of a surfactant (viz. Green synthesis of gold nanospheres with uniform diameter and triangular nanoprisms with optically flat surface was carried out using a non-pathogenic bio-control agent Trichoderma asperellum for reduction of HAuCl(4). Kinetics of the reaction was monitored by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. No additional capping/complexing agent was used for stabilizing the gold nanoparticles. Evolution of morphology from pseudospherical nanoparticles to triangular nanoprisms was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It revealed that three or more pseudospheres fused to form nanoprisms of different shapes and sizes. Slow rate of reduction of HAuCl(4) by constituents of cell-free fungal extract was instrumental in producing such exotic morphologies. Isolation of gold nanotriangles from the reacting masses was achieved by differential centrifugation.  相似文献

Carbon nanotube membranes have been shown to rapidly transport liquids; but progressive hydrophilic modification--contrary to expectations--induces a drastic reduction of water flow. Enhanced electrostatic interaction and the disruption of the mechanically smooth graphitic walls is the determinant of this behavior. Nanotechnology is an emerging technology which is an amalgamation of different aspects of science and technology that includes disciplines such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biology, physics, chemistry, and material science. It has potential in the fields of information and communication technology, biotechnology, and medicinal technology. It involves manipulating the dimensions of nanoparticles at an atomic scale to make use of its physical and chemical properties. All these properties are responsible for the wide application of nanoparticles in the field of human health care. Promising new technologies based on nanotechnology are being utilized to improve diverse aspects of medical treatments like diagnostics, imaging, and gene and drug delivery.
