Photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer combines irradiation of tumors with visible light following selective uptake of the photosensitizer by the tumor cells. PhotofrinR-II (Pf-II) is the only photosensitizer which is in clinical use in PDT, whereas chloroaluminum phthalocyanine tetrasulfonate (AlPcTS) has also shown promise in preclinical studies. In most such studies, the effectiveness of the photosensitizers has been assessed in implanted tumor model systems rather than in model systems where tumors are allowed to grow in their own connective tissue matrix. In this study the pharmacokinetics, tumor ablation capability and cutaneous photosensitization response of AlPcTS have been assessed in mice bearing chemically- and ultraviolet B radiation (UVB)-induced benign skin papillomas. When tumor-bearing animals were injected intraperitoneally with AlPcTS (5 mg/kg body wt), maximum tumor:normal skin ratio of 2.4 was observed at 48 h, at which time the mice were irradiated within the absorption spectrum of the photosensitizer. In tumor ablation studies with SENCAR mice bearing chemically-induced skin tumors, AlPcTS resulted in greater than 80% ablation in tumor volume at 20 days post-irradiation. In cutaneous photosensitization response, AlPcTS produced only transient effects (no effect after 24 h) in SENCAR mice. Pharmacokinetics data, tumor ablation effects and cutaneous photosensitization response of AlPcTS were comparable in SKH-1 hairless mice bearing UVB-induced skin tumors. Our data indicate that AlPcTS produces significant photodynamic effects towards the ablation of murine skin tumors, and that it does not produce prolonged cutaneous photosensitivity.  相似文献

Because of its accessibility the human skin is constantly exposed to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It is increasingly appreciated that exposure of the mammalian skin to UV plays a causal and decisive role in acute and chronic skin damage including the development of skin cancer. UV exposure causes sunburn, pigmentation, hyperplasia, immunosuppression, DNA damage, photoaging and photocarcinogenesis. To cope with constant environmental damage the skin possesses elaborate enzymatic detoxification systems. This paper briefly focuses on the effect of solar radiation, particularly UV spectrum, on detoxification pathways in the skin. Specifically the effect of solar radiation on cytochrome P450, glutathione, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, glutathione-S-transferase and ceruloplasmin has been discussed.  相似文献

This paper describes the preparation and the characterization of a photovoltaic cell based on the sensitization of a wide band gap p-type semiconductor (NiO) with a phosphorus porphyrin. A photophysical study with femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy showed that light excitation of the phosphorus porphyrin chemisorbed on NiO particles induces a very rapid interfacial hole injection into the valence band of NiO, occurring mainly on the 2-20 ps time scale. This is followed by a recombination in which ca. 80% of the ground-state reactants are regenerated within 1 ns. A photoelectrochemical device, prepared with a nanocrystalline NiO electrode coated with the phosphorus porphyrin, yields a cathodic photocurrent indicating that electrons indeed flow from the NiO electrode toward the solution. The low incident-to-photocurrent efficiency (IPCE) can be rationalized by the rapid back recombination reaction between the reduced sensitizer and the injected hole which prevents an efficient regeneration of the sensitizer ground state from the iodide/triiodide redox mediator. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents the first example of a photovoltaic cell in which a mechanism of hole photoinjection has been characterized.  相似文献

Three C-alkylated flavonoids 7-O-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-3,5-dihydroxy-3'-(4"-acetoxyl-3"-methylbutyl)-6,4'-dimethoxyflavone (1), 7-O-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-3,4'-dihydroxy-3'-(4"-acetoxyl-3"-methylbutyl)-5,6-dimethoxyflavone (2), 3,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-(8"-acetoxy-7"-methyloctyl)-5,6-dimethoxyflavone (3) and a trans-clerodane type diterpenoid (-)-6beta-hydroxy-5beta,8beta,9beta,10alpha-cleroda-3,13-dien-16,15-olid-18-oic acid (4) are reported from Duranta repens along with (+)-hardwickiic acid (5) and (+)-3,13-clerodadien-16,15-olid-18-oic acid (6), isolated for the first time from this species. Their structures were established on the basis of the spectral methods, especially two dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

Some novel pyrimidine‐based ferrocenyl substituted organometallic compounds were synthesized via multistep reactions, well characterized by different spectroscopic techniques and elemental analyses and evaluated for in vitro antiprotozoal susceptibility against HM1: IMSS strain of Entamoeba histolytica. The results of antiprotozoal susceptibility unveiled these compounds, as new leads in protozoal chemotherapy as most of the organometallics displayed an exceptionally higher antiamoebic activity (IC50 = 0.055 μM ‐ 0.815 μM) than the reference drug metronidazole which gave IC50 (50% inhibitory concentration) value 1.781 μM in our experiments, concluding that newly synthesized organometallic compounds have potential to be employed as effective antiamoebic agents and these organometallics can be very useful for further optimization work on amoebic chemotherapy.  相似文献

Y-type hexaferrite Sr2Co2LaxFe12?xO22 (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) powders have been synthesized using the sol–gel autocombustion method. Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermogravimetry, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometery were used to investigate the samples. XRD patterns confirm the formation of Y-type hexaferrite phase. SEM patterns show that mostly grains exhibit rod shape and some appear in the form of hexagonal platelet shape. The rod or rice shape hexaferrite may be used in catalysis, information storage, surface enhanced Raman scattering, imaging and sensing. The samples with hexagonal platelet-like shape particles may be suitable as microwave absorbing materials. The energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy spectrum shows the presence of dissolved reactants Sr, Co, La and Fe. The saturation magnetization (Ms) calculated using the law of approach to saturation decrease with the increasing of lanthanum (La3+) contents. The decrease in ‘Ms’ may be because of magnetic dilution and spin canting and hence reduction in the super-exchange interactions. The retentivity (Mr) and coercivity (Hc) enhance with the increase of La3+ contents. The enhancement in coercivity from 193 to 598.6 Oe may be because of increase in the porosity of samples with the increase of La3+ contents. The coercivity of the synthesized materials is few hundred oersteds (Oe), which may be suitable for security, switching, sensing, high frequency applications and is also favorable for electromagnetic materials.  相似文献

In this study, the potential for carbonaceous nanomaterials to be used as adsorbents for the mixed matrix membrane (MMM) microextraction and preconcentration of organic pollutants was demonstrated. For this method, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and single layer graphene (SLG) nanoparticles were individually incorporated through dispersion in a cellulose triacetate (CTA) polymer matrix to form a MWCNT-MMM and SLG-MMM, respectively. The prepared membranes were evaluated for the extraction of selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in sewage pond water samples. The extraction was performed by dipping a small piece of membrane (7 mm × 7 mm) in a stirred 7.5 mL sample solution to initiate the analyte adsorption. This step was followed by an analyte desorption into 60 μL of methanol prior to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. When the optimum SLG-MMM microextraction technique was applied to spiked sewage pond water samples, the detection limit of the method for the PAHs were in the range of 0.02–0.09 ng/mL, with relative standard deviations of between 1.4% and 7.8%. Enrichment factors of 54–100 were achieved with relative recoveries of 99%–101%. A comparison was also made between the proposed approach and standard solid phase extraction using polymeric bonded octadecyl (C18) cartridges.  相似文献

Viscosities and densities of sucrose in aqueous alkali metal halide solutions of different concentrations in the temperature range 293.5 to 313.15 K have been measured. Partial molar volumes at infinite dilution (V 2 0 ) of sucrose determined from apparent molar volume (φ v ) have been utilized to estimate partial molar volumes of transfer (V 2,tr 0 ) for sucrose from water to alkali metal halide solutions. The viscosity data of alkali metal halides in purely aqueous solutions and in the presence of sucrose at different temperatures (293.15, 303.15 and 313.5 K) have been analysed by the Jones-Dole equation. The nature and magnitude of solute-solvent and solute-solute interactions have been discussed in terms of the values of limiting apparent molar volume (φ v 0 ), slope (S v ) and coefficients of the Jones-Dole equation. The structure-making and structure-breaking capacities of alkali metal halides in pure aqueous solutions and in the presence of sucrose have been ascertained from temperature dependence ofφ v 0 .  相似文献
