Preparation of cobalt doped γ-Fe2O3 and Mn-Zn ferrites by the thermal decomposition of the hydrazine precursors

Fine particle cobalt doped-Fe₂O₃ and Mn-Zn ferrites have been prepared by the thermal decomposition of N₂H₅Co _x Fe_1–x (N₂H₃COO)₃.H₂O wherex=1–10 atom% and (N₂H₅)₃Mn_xZn_1–x Fe₂(N₂H₃COO)₉· 3H₂O wherex=0.2–0.8, respectively. Formation of these oxide materials has been confirmed by thermogravimetry and X-ray powder diffraction patterns. The fine particle nature of these oxide materials is evident from particle size analysis and surface area measurements.

Zusammenfassung Mit fein verteiltem Kobalt versetztes-Fe₂O₃ sowie Mn-Zn Ferrite wurden durch thermische Zersetzung von N₂H₅Co _x Fe_1–x (N₂H₃COO)₃·H₂O mit jc=1–10 Atomprozent bzw. (N₂H₅)₃Mn _x Zn_1–x Fe₂(N₂H₃COO)₉·3H₂O mitx=0,2–0,8 hergestellt. Die Bildung dieser Oxidstoffe wurde durch Thermogravimetrie und Pulverdiffraktionsmethoden bekräftigt. Die Feinkornstruktur dieser Oxidstoffe wird durch Korngrößenverteilungs- und Oberflächenmessungen augenscheinlich.

Synthesis of (−)-elemoxide,a commercially important fragrance compound

(?)-Elemoxide, a fragrant compound was synthesised using commercially available elemol in four steps with overall yield of 32%. The cyclic ether skeleton was constructed via intramolecular hydroalkoxylation using I₂ and PhSiH₃ catalytic system. Also, intramolecular oxymercuration-demercuration was employed as an alternate approach for cyclization. The various regioselective strategies involving epoxidation of alkene, reduction of epoxide and intramolecular cyclization were the highlights of the work. The key intermediate diol serves as a versatile intermediate for the synthesis of elemoxide and elemene.     

Evaluation of the enantiomeric resolution of 7,8-dihydroxy-7,8-dihydrobenzo[a]-pyrene and its 6-fluoro and 6-bromo derivatives on polysaccharide-derived stationary phases

The enantiomeric resolution and the elution order of (+/-)-trans-7,8-dihydrodiols of benzo[a]pyrene and its 6-fluoro and 6-bromo derivatives were analyzed on three polysaccharide-based columns: Daicel Chiralcel CA-I (cellulose triacetate), OF, and OG [cellulose tris(4-chloro- and 4-methylphenylcarbamate)]. For comparison, the separation of (+/-)-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol was evaluated on the OG and OF columns. Possibly similar interactions of (S)-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol and (7S,8S)-isomers of 6-halo-7,8-dihydroxy-7,8-dihydrobenzo[a]pyrene with the chiral sorbent are suggested.     

Enzymatic profiling system in a small-molecule microarray

[reaction: see text] We have developed a microarray-based strategy for detection of three major classes of hydrolytic enzymes on the basis of their catalytic activities. This enables the sensitive detection of proteins not merely by their bindings but rather by their enzymatic activities. This may provide a valuable tool for screening, identification, and characterization of new enzymes in a high-throughput fashion.     

High level ab initio and DFT calculations of models of the catalytically active Ni-Fe hydrogenases

Multi-reference M?ller-Plesset calculations of a model of the Ni-SI state of nickel-iron hydrogenase predict a singlet rather than a triplet state for this species, and show that it is better described with a BP86 rather than a B3LYP functional.
