Ionophore Properties of Schiff Base Compounds as Ion Sensing Molecules for Fabricating Cu(II) Ion-Selective Electrodes

Bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,2-diaminoethane (L^I), bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,3-diaminopropane (L^II) and bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)-4,4'-methylendianiline (L^III) were examined as ionophores for fabrication of polyvinylchloride (PVC) membrane Cu(II) ion-selective potentiometric sensors. The optimum composition (%) for the sensors was: 5 L^I, 30 PVC, 6 sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB), 59 ortho-nitrophenyloctyl ether (NPOE); 4 L^II, 30 PVC, 5 NaTPB, 61 dibutyl phthalate; 6 L^III, 30 PVC, 5 NaTPB, 59 NPOE. The linear response range of the electrodes was 5 × 10^–4–0.05 (L^I), 5 × 10^–4–0.1 (L^II) and 1 × 10^–6–0.01 M (L^III), and the corresponding detection limits were 4 × 10^–4, 4 × 10^–4 and 2 × 10^–7 M, respectively. The sensors were showed rapid response time (≈10 s). Their responses were independent on pH in the range 2.5–5.0 (L^I), 3.2–4.7 (L^II) and 4.0–5.0 (L^III). The selectivity of the prepared electrodes towards copper ions over some mono-, di- and trivalent metal ions was evaluated. The sensors were used as indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of copper ions in aqueous solutions.     

Efficient synthesis of novel tricyclic fused pyranothiazolopyrimidine derivatives via isocyanide-based three-component reactions

An efficient and facile one-pot synthesis is described for the preparation of novel tricyclic fused pyranothiazolopyrimidines containing both biologically active thiazolopyrimidine and pyranopyrimidine templates via three-component reaction involving an isocyanide with a dialkylacetylenedicarboxylate (DAAD) and 2,3-dihydro-5H-[1,3]thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine-5,7(6H)-dione, in high yields.     

Bubble formation induced by nanosecond laser ablation in water and its diagnosis by optical transmission technique

In this paper, bubble formation and ablation rate in laser ablation of a thin-film aluminum target are studied. The target was an aluminum thin-film coated on a quartz substrate and interacted by a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser beam in ambient air and distilled water. Measuring optical transmission of a He–Ne beam through the ablation region shows that the ablation rate in water is higher than that in ambient air. The results also show that an initial peak appears in the transmission signal which is an evidence for bubble formation in water. Analyzing the data is useful for monitoring the bubble formation in water and relatively estimating the ablation rate.     

Numerical study of picosecond soft x-ray enhancement from porous targets irradiated by double laser pulses

Simulations show enhanced free-free and free-bound x-ray emission from laser-produced plasmas for both porous and solid targets irradiated by picosecond laser pulses under different prepulse conditions. The porous targets are modeled as a thick solid substrate over-coated with a thin porous layer. Using porous targets and prepulses shows that x-ray yields can be enhanced significantly over single pulses on solid density targets. The optimum conditions of prepulse and porous layer density are investigated by simulations with a fluid and atomic physics code.     

Quasi injectivity and θ-internal order sum in partially ordered acts

Injectivity (weakly injectivity) of objects is an important concept which category theory inherited from homological and commutative algebra. One of the useful kinds of weakly injectivity is quasi injectivity. In this paper, we study the relation between different kinds of quasi injectivity and the concept of θ-internal order sum in the category of actions of an ordered monoid on ordered sets and some of its important subcategories. From the results obtained, we investigated the relations between these types of quasi injectivity.     

Catalyst-free one-pot synthesis of a new class of 2H-furo[3,2-c]chromene-2,4(3H)-dione and arylamino-bis(coumarin)methane derivatives on water

A catalyst-free, environmentally benign, and simple procedure has been developed for the efficient synthesis of novel 2H-furo[3,2-c]chromene-2,4(3H)-dione and 3,3′-((arylamino)methylene)bis(4-hydroxycoumarin) derivatives from one-pot three-component condensation of 4-hydroxycoumarin, glyoxalic acid monohydrate and various amines in water under reflux condition. In this green synthetic protocol, the solvent water itself catalyzed the reaction via hydrogen bonding. One-pot, high yields, short reaction times, simple operation, environmental friendly and easy workup procedure are highlights. This is the first report for the synthesis of 2H-furo[3,2-c]chromene-2,4(3H)-dione and arylamino-bis(coumarin)methane derivatives.
