Guided by a Compton-sized model, we demonstrate that: (a) the magnetic self-energy of the electron, as estimated initially by Rasetti and Fermi, can be directly related to both the sign and the magnitude of the electron anomalous magnetic moment; and (b) the classical expression for the magnetic self-energy of the electron exhibits the same characteristic logarithmic divergence that occurs in QED. This electron model quantitatively reproduces the spin, magnetic moment, and gyromagnetic ratio of the electron, correct to first order in = e2 /c. It also relates the quantum-mechanical spin projection angle to the vanishing of the electric quadrupole moment, and it is capable of reproducing point-like scattering behavior. 相似文献

The lethality of high-intensity pulsed-light emissions from low and high ultraviolet (UV) light sources on predetermined microbial populations has been investigated. Prior to treatment, the bacterial enteropathogens Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enteritidis and the food-spoilage fungi Aspergillus niger and Fusarium culmorum were seeded separately onto the surface of either tryptone soya yeast extract or malt extract agar plates. Prescribed microbial population densities were applied to the test media and these samples were exposed to one of two light sources. These were low-pressure, xenon filled, flash lamps that produced either high or low UV intensities. They were operated in pulsed mode, being driven by a stacked Blurnlein table generator. Microbial samples were treated by exposure to different numbers of light pulses. The treated bacterial populations were reduced by ~8 log orders after 1000 light-pulses of the higher UV intensity light and the fungal counts had a corresponding reduction of 4.5 log orders. The fungus, Aspergillus niger, was shown to be significantly more resistant in spore form to the intense UV light compared with Fusarium culmorum. This resistance has been attributed to the high level of UV absorbance associated with the dark pigment present in A. niger. Differential cross sections of the reactions (gamma,pi(0)pi(0)) and (gamma,pi(0)pi(+/-)) have been measured for several nuclei (1H,12C, and (nat)Pb) at an incident-photon energy of E(gamma)=400-460 MeV at the tagged-photon facility at MAMI-B using the TAPS spectrometer. A significant nuclear-mass dependence of the pipi invariant-mass distribution is found in the pi(0)pi(0) channel. This dependence is not observed in the pi(0)pi(+/-) channel and is consistent with an in-medium modification of the pipi interaction in the I=J=0 channel. Experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of pulsed electric fields (PEFs) on the inactivation of microbial populations suspended in liquids using nonflowing and continuous flowing test chambers. Electric fields of ~30 kV/cm, and a pulse duration of 500 ns, were generated from a coaxial table Blumlein pulse forming network (PFN) and applied to a parallel plate, circular electrode test configuration. Sample microorganisms were grown under standardized conditions and were introduced into test liquids in order to produce known population densities within the treatment celt. The organisms investigated include the mold Aspergillus niger, the yeast Sacckaromyeces cerevisiae, and the bacterial pathogens Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The PEF studies were undertaken at a sample temperature range of 25°C-30°C, and the effect of the number of pulses on the test microbial population was studied. The results of this investigation showed that the greater the number of pulses applied, the larger the corresponding reduction in microbial cells/spores obtained. With the exception of dormant fungal spores, all of the test organisms were reduced by -3 to 4 log orders after 3000 pulses. The number of B. The angular distribution of nucleons emitted in the 12C(γ,pn) reaction has been measured using tagged photons at the Mainz microtron MAMI. The variation of the reaction strength
with the polar angles of the two emitted nucleons is reported for Eγ=120−150 MeV. The proton angular distribution peaks at more backward angles than the 2H(γ,p) differential cross section indicating a departure from the simple quasi-deuteron model of 2N photo-emission. The distribution
shape is in reasonable agreement with microscopic theoretical models which include both π- and ρ-exchange.

The liver is a highly vascular organ with a dual blood supply, and it performs a remarkable number of vital functions. Here, we show, through measurement of blood oxygen level‐dependent (BOLD) signal, that liver arterial and hepatic portal blood supplies can be modulated through hyperoxia exposure and by consumption of a standardized meal, respectively. As such, we suggest that hyperoxia modulates the hepatic arterial BOLD signal, whereas a controlled meal changes predominantly the hepatic portal BOLD signal. The hemodynamics of the dual liver blood supplies in response to the aforementioned challenges are complex and variable across subjects, making a general linear model‐based analysis difficult. Therefore, we present the application of two local (at each voxel) hemodynamic response‐independent techniques—principal component analysis and partial least squares—to observe the hypothesized reduction in BOLD contrast during cycles of hyperoxic breathing, when comparing preprandial versus postprandial states in a normally functioning liver. We illustrate the ability of our techniques to differentiate between healthy and diseased livers with an analysis of 17 subjects—11 with normal livers and 6 with liver disease (hepatitis or cirrhosis).
