The double melting endotherm of spunbonded isotactic polypropylene (iPP) fabrics was investigated by monitoring changes in the solid-state NMR spectrum that result from thermal annealing. The DSC melting thermogram was found to change from a double to a single endotherm at anneal temperatures ≥156°C, with a concomitant increase in percent crystallinity. All of the carbon resonances in the CP/MAS NMR spectrum of the purely crystalline phase of iPP were found to be composed of multiple peaks with relative intensities that depend on anneal temperature. By monitoring the changes in the distribution of intensity among the various peaks of a given resonance, a transition temperature of 156°C was identified. Arguments are presented that this redistribution of intensity within a given carbon resonance characterizes the transformation from the α1 to the α2 monoclinic crystal form. The exothermicity associated with this transformation is responsible for the observation of a double melting endotherm by DSC. The splitting patterns observed in the NMR spectrum are discussed in terms of interlayer distances between layers of isochiral helices and the density of exposed methyls at the contact faces of these interlayers. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Under sections 73 and 74 of the revised Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA 1999), Environment Canada and Health Canada must "categorize" and "screen" about 23,000 substances on the Domestic Substances List (DSL) for persistence (P), bioaccumulation (B), and inherently toxic (iT) properties. Since experimental data for P, B and iT are only available for a few DSL substances, a workshop was held to address issues associated with the use of Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs) to categorize these substances. This paper describes the results of an 11-12 November 1999 International Workshop sponsored by Environment Canada to discuss potential uses and limitations of QSARs to categorize DSL substances as either persistent or bioaccumulative and iT to non-human organisms and to recommend future research needed to develop methods for predicting the P, B and iT of difficult-to-model substances.  相似文献

Nesting in a semimetal can lead to an excitonic-insulator state with spontaneous coherence between conduction and valence bands and a gap for charged excitations. We present a theory of the ferromagnetic state that occurs when the density of electrons in the conduction band and holes in the valence band differ. We find an unexpectedly rich doping-field phase diagram and an unusual collective excitation spectrum that includes two gapless collective modes. We predict regions of doping and external field in which phase-separated condensates of electrons and holes with parallel spins and opposing spins coexist.  相似文献

We present a theory of the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic (III, Mn)V semiconductors. Our theory relates the anomalous Hall conductance of a homogeneous ferromagnet to the Berry phase acquired by a quasiparticle wave function upon traversing closed paths on the spin-split Fermi surface. The quantitative agreement between our theory and experimental data in both (In, Mn)As and (Ga, Mn)As systems suggests that this disorder independent contribution to the anomalous Hall conductivity dominates in diluted magnetic semiconductors. The success of this model for (III, Mn)V materials is unprecedented in the longstanding effort to understand origins of the anomalous Hall effect in itinerant ferromagnets.  相似文献

Experimental investigations have not fully explored the interaction between ultrasound beams and microbubble contrast agents. Moreover theoretical investigations have not solved the problem of the microbubble oscillation. A simple in-vitro system based on a commercial scanner (ATL UM9) was used to insonate (3 MHz transmission) diluted contrast suspensions of Definity and Quantison at different acoustic pressures (0.27-1.52 MPa). The experimental data were referred to a blood mimicking fluid in order to extract an estimate of their scattering cross-section. The results were compared with the solutions of the three main bubble oscillatidn models, Rayleigh-Plesset, Herring and Gilmore. Non-linear solutions of the above models were produced numerically using the Mathematica Package Software. The experiments showed that both agents provided a linear increase in scattering cross-section with increasing acoustic pressure. The thick shelled Quantison provided an increasing number of scatterers with increasing acoustic pressure, which proved that free bubbles leaked out of the shell. At high acoustic pressures both Quantison and Definity scattering cross-sections were almost identical, and were probably that of a free bubble. The Rayleigh-Plesset model provided a scattering cross-section almost independent of acoustic pressure. On the contrary the scattering cross-sections calculated by the Herring and Gilmore models solutions displayed a definite dependence on acoustic pressure of an order higher than one, which is slightly higher than the order of dependence exhibited by the experimental data. However, the increase of the experimentally measured scattering cross-section with acoustic pressure was sharper than the calculated one by the above two models. This is most probably due to the fact that the models simulated damped and not free bubble oscillations. In conclusion the Rayleigh-Plesset model was inadequate in describing the bubble oscillations even at small diagnostic acoustic pressures. The Herring and Gilmore models could simulate the dependence of the scattering cross-section of encapsulated microbubbles on acoustic pressure. However the contribution of free bubble oscillations has still to be modelled.  相似文献

Then a homotopy structure for A, defined by a cocylinder P : A A, or path-endofunctor, can be lifted to the category A T of Eilenberg–Moore algebras over T, provided that P is consistent with T in a natural sense, i.e. equipped with a natural transformation : T P P T satisfying some obvious axioms. In this way, homotopy can be lifted from well-known, basic situations to various categories of algebras for instance, from topological spaces to topological semigroups, or spaces over a fixed space (fibrewise homotopy), or actions of a fixed topological group (equivariant homotopy); from categories to strict monoidal categories; from chain complexes to associative chain algebras. The interest is given by the possibility of lifting the homotopy operations (as faces, degeneracy, connections, reversion, interchange, vertical composition, etc.) and their axioms from A to A T , just by verifying the consistency between these operations and : T P P T. When this holds, the structure we obtain on our category of algebras is sufficiently powerful to ensure the main general properties of homotopy.  相似文献

Photon yields from Ti atoms sputtered from Ti and Ti oxide due to 55 keV Ar+ and O2+ ion bombardment have been studied. Photon yields and line profiles of selected lines have also been studied as a function of background O2 exposure. An attempt has been made to correlate changes in yields and line shapes with variations of the band structure in the solid. Resonance ionization processes are shown not to contribute to the observed yield, however Auger processes cannot be excluded. Lifetime effects have a strong influence on the observed results. It is shown that the distribution of excited states produced by the ion bombardment is Boltzmannlike. We note that it is possible to interpret these results in terms of a model which assumes that the probability of excitation or ionization is exponentially dependent on the excitation or ionization energy, without invoking electron exchange mechanisms.  相似文献
