Gold-surface binding of molecular switches studied by M?ssbauer spectroscopy

The nonanuclear coordination compound [Mo^IV{(CN)Fe^III(3-methyl-saldptn)}₈]Cl₄ exhibits multiple spin transitions (3-methyl-saldptn = N,N′-bis(3′′-methyl-2′′-hydroxy-benzyliden)-1,7-diamino-4-azaheptane). This spin crossover cluster is bound via a self-assembled monolayer onto a two dimensional array gold surface. M?ssbauer spectroscopy indicates that the thermally and optically induced spin crossover of the compound is maintained. Thereby, the foundation for its potential practical application (e.g. in the field of information storage) was laid.     

EPR on Medically Relevant NO Adsorbed to Zn-LTA

For medical purposes, materials are required that store and target specifically deliver exogenous nitric oxide (NO). Partially zinc-exchanged Na-LTA (Linde type A) zeolite (Zn-LTA) has high potential in this respect due to its non-toxicity and adsorption capacity for NO. In contrast to NO adsorbed to LTA zeolites prepared for catalytic purposes, lower dehydration temperature prior to NO adsorption is used to achieve a balance between production cost and high activity. In order to study the interaction of NO with the metal sites in the samples prepared under these medical conditions, continuous-wave X-band electron paramagnetic resonance has been applied. In contrast to Na-LTA with only one weakly interacting NO monomer, three different monomers, having stronger interaction to the metal sites than in Na-LTA, were observed in Zn-LTA. To improve the storage capacity of Zn-LTA, higher dehydration temperatures would be necessary.     

Very Simple One-Step Synthesis of Vinylphosphonates and Enamine Phosphonates by Direct Addition of Organolithium Reagents to 1-Alkynylphosphonates

Abstract

Direct addition of organolithium to 1-alkynylphosphonates (1) afforded vinylphosphonates and enamine phosphonates (2) in good to excellent yields. The reaction was carried out in dry THF at low temperature and proved to be completely stereoselective (syn addition). Alkyl, aryl, and haloalkyl groups were attached to the alkynyl entity, so the resulting vinylphosphonates contained various functional groups. The stereochemistry of the products as well as mechanism of the reaction were determined based on ¹H and ¹³C NMR. The synthesis of enamine phosphonates in the absence of complicated, highly expensive organometallic catalysis has not been previously reported.     

Reaction of 3-Diazocamphor with Silver Ion - Formation of Tricyclanone

The usual method of formation of tricyclanone (1) involves thermolysis of an intimate mixture of 3-diazocamphor (3) and copper powder and is thought to involve ketocarbene (5).¹ Recently this method has been supplemented² by one which involves reaction of 3,3-dibromocamphor with diethylzinc in benzene where α-elimination to give ketocarbene (5) is mediated by 3-bromocamphor carbanion whose role is indicated by trapping as 3-bromocamphor; this material accounts for ca. 10% of product even after prolonged reaction times.
