Spectrophotometric determination of molybdenum(VI)

Molybdenum(IV) gives a red colour with ammonium thiocyanate in 5-8M hydrochloric acid medium, the Sandell sensitivity index being 0.018 ppm Mo(VI)/cm(2). Molybdenum(VI) in 4-7M hydrochloric acid medium forms a red complex with ethyl xanthate and ammonium thiocyanate and this can be extracted into acetophenone. Beer's law is obeyed over the range of 1.2-13.8 ppm, and the Sandell indices at 370 and 470 nm are 0.0016 and 0.0068 ppm/cm(2) respectively. The colour is stable for 40 hr. Most cations do not interfere.     

Determination of organic carbon in water with a silver-catalyzed peroxydisulfate wet chemical oxidation method

The application of Ag(I) catalysis of S₂O₈^2? to the oxidation of organic carbon to CO₂ for determination of dissolved organic carbon in aqueous samples is described. The resulting method combines to a significant degree the speed of high-temperature combustion methods and the sensitivity of wet chemical oxidation. For some samples, a higher oxidation efficiency has been observed than with an uncatalyzed wet chemical oxidation method.     

O,O-dialkyl-S-(1-silatranylalkyl) dithiophosphates

Conclusions The reactions of 1-(3-chloropropyl)silatrane with potassium O,O-diethyl dithiophosphate gave O,O-diethyl-S-(1-silatranylpropyl) dithiophosphate. O,O-Diethyl- and O,O-dipropyl-S-(1-silatranylmethyl) dithiophosphates were synthesized by the tranesterification of O,O-diethyl-and O,O-dipropyl-S-(trimethoxysilylmethyl) dithiophosphates by tris(2-hydroxyethyl)amine.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 8, pp. 1882–1884, August, 1987.     

Phenylmercury derivatives of aminomethylene- and hydroxymethylene-substituted 1-methyloxindoles, 1-indanones,and 1,3-indanediones

A number of phenylmercury derivatives of 3-hydroxymethylene- and 3-aminomethylene-substituted 1-methyloxindoles, 1-indanones, and 1,3-indanediones were synthesized. It is shown that the preferred tautomeric structures of the potentially metallotropic and prototropic hydroxymethylene keto (hydroxy vinyl aldehyde) derivatives of the indicated compounds and 3-hydroxybenzo[b]-2-formylthiophene coincide precisely. An aminomethylene structure with an N-H bond is realized for the phenylmercury derivatives of the corresponding azomethines in all cases.Communication 28 from the series Benzenoid-Quinoid Tautomerism of Azomethines and Their Structural Analogs. Thermal addition of dibenzoylacetylene to cycloheptatriene and the photo-rearrangement of the thermal adduct

The reaction of cycloheptatriene (CHT) with dibenzoylacetylene (DBA), in refluxing toluene gave a mixture of products consisting of 6,7-dibenzoyltricyclo[3.2.2.0^2.4]nona-6,8-diene 6 and 3,4-dibenzoylbicyclo [3.2.2]nona-2,6,8-triene 7. Neat heating of a mixture of CHT and DBA around 95–100° gave besides, 6 and 7, small amounts of two dimers of DBA. Photolysis of 6 in benzene solution gave a lactonic, rearrangement product. 25. The structures of the various products have been established and reasonable mechanisms for their formation have been suggested.     

Local doses associated with119mSn isomeric transition

The energy absorbed by immediate surrounding of disintegrating^119mSn nuclei have been estimated by comparing the Mössbauer emission spectra of¹¹⁹Sn in some tin compounds with the absorption spectra of the same substances after -irradiation and by simple calculations of Auger electrons energy losses. The results obtained indicate that the observed post-effects of the^119mSn decay are due to self-radiolysis and other processes, whose contributions depend on the individual properties of the matrices.     

New Complexes of the Tetrachloro and Tetrabromo Acids of Indium (III) with organic LEWIS Bases

The preparation of the salts of the tetrachloro and tetrabromo acids of indium with the organic LEWIS bases (aniline, pyridine and quinoline) is reported. The physical and chemical properties, as well asI.R. spectra and theX-ray analysis are discussed.     

Determination of sub microgram amounts of selenium in rocks by atomic-absorption spectroscopy

Atomic-absorption spectroscopy was used to determine trace amounts of selenium accurately in U.S. Geological Survey standard rocks, GSP-1, W-1 and BCR-1. The results obtained were compared with those obtained by neutron-activation analysis and excellent agreement was found; in addition, the selenium:sulphur ratio was calculated and agreed with results obtained by other workers.     

Thiapyrylium salts (review)

The literature data touching upon the synthesis of thiapyrylium salts and the stability of the thiapyrylium cation as compared with its isoelectronic analogs, as well as the nucleophilic, oxidation, anion-exchange, and other reactions of the salts with substituted and unsubstituted thiapyrylium cations are examined in this review.
