Both a mode-locked argon-ion laser and synchrotron radiation were used as excitation sources to obtain time-resolved polarized fluorescence of the two FAD cofactors in electron transferring flavoprotein fromMegasphaera elsdenii. Red-edge excited and blue-edge detected fluorescence anisotropy decay curves did not contain a fast relaxation process which was observed upon mainband excitation and detection. This relaxation was assigned to homo-energy transfer between the two FAD cofactors. Failure of energy transfer as observed with edge spectroscopy on this protein excludes restricted reorientational motion of the flavins as a possible mechanism of depolarization. From the global analysis of the fluorescence anisotropy decay surface obtained at multiple excitation and detection wavelengths, the distance between and the relative orientation of the flavins could be estimated. The methodology described has general applicability in other multichromophoric biopolymers and has the potential to acquire accurate geometrical parameters in these systems. 相似文献

It was found that when a thin dielectric film is exposed to the plasma of a low-voltage gas discharge, channels with elevated conductivity form in the film and these channels significantly facilitate the subsequent electroforming of the MIM system. Depending on the preparation of the cavity fields, the probability for finding the atom in a definite final state displays Ramsey fringes or not. We describe high order numerical algorithms for the solution of second order elliptic equations in rectangular domains. These
algorithms are based on the Fourier method in combination with a subtraction procedure. The singularities at the corner points,
arising due to non-smoothness of the boundaries, are treated explicitly using properly constructed singular corner functions.

The sulphur K-edge x-ray absorption spectra of SO2 multilayer and of SO2 submonolayer adsorbed on Cu(100) are analysed. It is found that the dominant spectral features are of a molecular origin. The results support earlier findings that the SO2 molecule stands perpendicular to the surface. Motivated by the recent observation of the metal-insulator transition in Si MOSFETs, a study is made of the quantum interference
correction to the conductivity in the presence of the Bychkov-Rashba spin splitting. For a small splitting, a crossover from
the localizing to antilocalizing regime is obtained. The antilocalization correction vanishes, however, in the limit of a
large separation between the chiral branches. The relevance of the chiral splitting for the 2D electron gas in Si MOSFETs
is discussed.
