Impact sounds synthesized according to a physical model have increasingly become the stimulus of choice in studies of sound source perception. Few studies, however, have incorporated manner of contact in their models because of the complexity of the mechanics involved. Here a simplified model of contact is described suitable for application to perceptual research. The results of the simplified model are shown to be in good agreement with those of more comprehensive numerical methods receiving prior acoustic validation [Chaigne and Lambourg, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 109, 1422-1432 (2001)]. The advantages of the model for applications to perceptual research are discussed. 相似文献

Molecular psychophysics attempts to model the observer's response to stimuli as they vary from trial to trial. The approach has gained popularity in multitone pattern discrimination studies as a means of estimating the relative reliance or decision weight listeners give to different tones in the pattern. Various factors affecting decision weights have been examined, but one largely ignored is the relative level of tones in the pattern. In the present study listeners detected a level-increment in a sequence of 5, 100-ms, 2.0-kHz tone bursts alternating in level between 40 and 80 dB SPL. The level increment was made largest on the 40-dB tones, yet despite this all four highly-practiced listeners gave near exclusive weight to the 80-dB tones. The effect was the same when the tones were replaced by bursts of broadband Gaussian noise alternating in level. It was reduced only when the level differences were made <10 dB, and it was entirely reversed only when the low-level tones alternated with louder bursts of Gaussian noise. The results are discussed in terms of the effects of both sensory and perceptual factors on estimates of decision weights. 相似文献

In a multiple observation, sample discrimination experiment normal-hearing (NH) and hearing-impaired (HI) listeners heard two multitone complexes each consisting of six simultaneous tones with nominal frequencies spaced evenly on an ERB(N) logarithmic scale between 257 and 6930 Hz. On every trial, the frequency of each tone was sampled from a normal distribution centered near its nominal frequency. In one interval of a 2IFC task, all tones were sampled from distributions lower in mean frequency and in the other interval from distributions higher in mean frequency. Listeners had to identify the latter interval. Decision weights were obtained from multiple regression analysis of the between- interval frequency differences for each tone and listeners' responses. Frequency difference limens (an index of sensorineural resolution) and decision weights for each tone were used to predict the sensitivity of different decision-theoretic models. Results indicate that low-frequency tones were given much greater perceptual weight than high-frequency tones by both groups of listeners. This tendency increased as hearing loss increased and as sensorineural resolution decreased, resulting in significantly less efficient weighting strategies for the HI listeners. Overall, results indicate that HI listeners integrated frequency information less optimally than NH listeners, even after accounting for differences in sensorineural resolution. 相似文献

In a previous article [Lutfi, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 76, 1045-1050 (1984)], the following relation was used to predict measures of frequency selectivity obtained in forward masking from measures obtained in simultaneous masking: F(g) = G + H(g) - H(0), where, for a given masker level, F is the amount of forward masking (in dB) as a function of signal-masker frequency separation (g), H is the amount of simultaneous masking, and G is the amount of forward masking for g = 0. In the present study, the relation was tested for a wider range of signal and masker frequencies, masker levels, and signal delays. The relation described thresholds from all conditions well with the inclusion of one free parameter lambda corresponding to a constant frequency increment, F(g) = G + H(g + lambda) - H(lambda). The parameter lambda was required to account for observed shifts in the frequency of maximum forward masking. It is argued that a single tuning mechanism can account for commonly observed differences between simultaneous- and forward-masked measures of frequency selectivity. 相似文献

A conditional-on-a-single-stimulus (COSS) analysis procedure [B. G. Berg, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 86, 1743-1746 (1989)] was used to estimate how well normal-hearing and hearing-impaired listeners selectively attend to individual spectral components of a broadband signal in a level discrimination task. On each trial, two multitone complexes consisting of six octave frequencies from 250 to 8000 Hz were presented to listeners. The levels of the individual tones were chosen independently and at random on each presentation. The target tone was selected, within a block of trials, as the 250-, 1000-, or 4000-Hz component. On each trial, listeners were asked to indicate which of the two complex sounds contained the higher level target. As a group, normal-hearing listeners exhibited greater selectivity than hearing-impaired listeners to the 250-Hz target, while hearing-impaired listeners showed greater selectivity than normal-hearing listeners to the 4000-Hz target, which is in the region of their hearing loss. Both groups of listeners displayed large variability in their ability to selectively weight the 1000-Hz target. Trial-by-trial analysis showed a decrease in weighting efficiency with increasing frequency for normal-hearing listeners, but a relatively constant weighting efficiency across frequency for hearing-impaired listeners. Interestingly, hearing-impaired listeners selectively weighted the 4000-Hz target, which was in the region of their hearing loss, more efficiently than did the normal-hearing listeners. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the short-term effects of Thymoquinone (TQ) on oxidative stress, glycaemic control, and renal functions in diabetic rats. DM was induced in groups II and III with a single dose of streptozotocin (STZ), while group I received no medication (control). The rats in groups I and II were then given distilled water, while the rats in group III were given TQ at a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight/day for 4 weeks. Lipid peroxidase, nitric oxide (NO), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profiles, and renal function were assessed. Moreover, the renal tissues were used for histopathological examination. STZ increased the levels of HbA1c, lipid peroxidase, NO, and creatinine in STZ-induced diabetic rats in comparison to control rats. TAC was lower in STZ-induced diabetic rats than in the control group. Furthermore, rats treated with TQ exhibited significantly lower levels of HbA1c, lipid peroxidase, and NO than did untreated diabetic rats. TAC was higher in diabetic rats treated with TQ than in untreated diabetic rats. The histopathological results showed that treatment with TQ greatly attenuated the effect of STZ-induced diabetic nephropathy. TQ effectively adjusts glycaemic control and reduces oxidative stress in STZ-induced diabetic rats without significant damaging effects on the renal function. 相似文献

Here, we present the first simultaneous preconcentration and determination of ultratrace (pmol kg−1 level) Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta and W in seawater, both in the form of dissolved and acid-dissolvable species. 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) bonded covalently to a vinyl polymer resin, TSK-8HQ, was used in a chelating adsorbent column to concentrate the metals. The greatest advantage of this resin is its endurance to 5 M HF, since this is an effective eluent for all five metals. The analytes were successfully concentrated from 250 mL seawater with a 50-fold concentration factor through the column extraction and evaporation. The detection limit was 0.009-0.15 pmol kg−1. The procedure blank determined using ultra pure water as a sample was 0.005-0.37 pmol kg−1. The five metals were quantitatively recovered from seawater with good precision (2-4%). The effect of sample pH, sample flow rate, eluent composition and sample pretreatment were carefully studied. This method was applied to seawater. 相似文献

The sound of a source moving in a straight path and passing directly in front of the listener on the azimuthal plane was synthesized over headphones to include three dynamic cues for motion: Doppler effect, overall intensity, and interaural time difference. Discriminability of a change in displacement, velocity, and acceleration of this source was measured using a standard two-interval, forced-choice procedure. In each case, the relative reliance or weight given to the three acoustic cues was estimated from correlations of the listener's response with small independent pertubations imposed on cues from trial to trial. Group estimates of threshold agreed well with results from past studies, while the obtained pattern of weights depended on the individual, starting velocity, and discrimination task. For the discrimination of displacement at moderate velocity (10 m/s), responses were most highly correlated with intensity or interaural time difference. For the discrimination of velocity and, to a lesser extent, acceleration, responses were most highly correlated with Doppler effect. At higher velocity (50 m/s) responses in all discrimination tasks were most strongly correlated with Doppler effect with few exceptions. Randomizing source spectrum or roving distance of the source from trial to trial did not significantly affect the pattern of results. The results suggest that motion perception is mutable, and not in all cases based on a single invariant acoustic cue. 相似文献

Methylation of 9‐lithiated ap‐9‐pivaloylfluorene, (I), as well as pivaloylation of 9‐lithiated 9‐methylfluorene provided rotationally stable sp‐9‐methyl‐9‐pivaloylfluorene, (III), C19H20O, which lies about a crystallographic mirror plane. Fluorene (I) exists exclusively in the ap configuration in solution (NMR) as well as in the crystalline state, reflecting the unfavorable interaction between the tert‐butyl and fluorene‐ring π electrons in the sp configuration. The existence of (III) exclusively in the sp configuration indicates that, in this case, the interaction between the tert‐butyl group and the fluorene‐ring π electrons provides relatively more thermodynamic stability than the steric interaction between the tert‐butyl and 9‐methyl groups (ap configuration). 相似文献
