The synthesis of $\text{trans}$-cinnamylethers by oxidation of allylbenzene is described. The reaction cannot be explained by formation of an allylic mercurial. A new type of mechanism in the oxidation of alkenes by mercury(II) salts is proposed.     

New synthesis of condensed hydropyridazine derivatives V

The reactivity of pyrrole derivatives towards the semicarbazone of ω-bromoacetophenone has been reported. Substituents at position 1 of the pyrrole ring greatly affect the course of the reaction. 1,4,4a,4b,5,8,8a,8b-Octahydro-9H-pyrrolo[2,3-c:4,5-c′]dipyridazine derivative or α- and α,α-pyrrolyl derivatives were obtained depending on the substituents. The structures reported were assigned on the basis of satisfactory analytical and spectroscopic data.     

Reaction of 2-dimethylaminomethylene-1,3-diones with dinucleophiles. I. Synthesis of 1,5-disubstituted 4-acylpyrazoles

Reaction of open-chain and cyclic sym-1,3-diones with N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal gave, generally in high yield, a series of sym-2-dimethylaminomethylene-1,3-diones which reacted with phenylhydrazine and methylhydrazine to afford, generally in satisfactory yield, a number of 1,5-disubstituted 4-acylpyrazoles. The applications and limits of this new pyrazole synthesis are presented and discussed.

Collection of atmospheric hydrogen chloride in industrial environments by means of alumina sampling tubes

Atmospheric hydrogen chloride is sampled by means of glass tubes containing alumina (15–30 mesh). The analyte is then extracted by washing with 0.5 M potassium nitrate and water and is quantified potentiometrically with a chloride-selective electrode. The detection limit of the method is 0.15 μmol of hydrogen chloride, corresponding to 0.18 ppm (v/v) in a 20-l air sample. The sampling method is tested in the concentration range 0.78–32 ppm, with recoveries in the range 99.2–93.7% and standard deviations of 7.6–1.0%, which is appropriate for the threshold limit value of 5 ppm in industrial environments.     

A Global Method for Relaxation

A new method for the identification of the integral representation of a class of functionals defined on (where represents the family of open subsets of Ω) is presented. Applications are derived, such as the integral representation of the relaxed energy in corresponding to a functional defined in with a discontinuous integrand with linear growth; relaxation and homogenization results in are recovered in the case where bulk and surface energies are present. Synthesis of sulphur containing fused ring heterocycles by intramolecular 1,3-dipolar-cycloadditions

Sulfur containing fused triazoles and pyrazoles are synthesized through intramolecular cycloadditions of properly functionalized azides and nitrileimines, respectively.
