When a tunneling barrier between two superconductors is formed by a normal material that would be a superconductor in the absence of phase fluctuations, the resulting Josephson effect can undergo an enormous enhancement. We establish this novel proximity effect by a general argument as well as a numerical simulation and argue that it may underlie recent experimental observations of the giant proximity effect between two cuprate superconductors separated by a barrier made of the same material rendered normal by severe underdoping.  相似文献

The initial potential at the surface of the sample, as well as the temperature and the relative humidity of the ambient air are known to influence the surface-potential decay characteristics of corona-charged thin insulating films. The aim of the present work is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Experimental Design methodology for evaluating the effects of these factors. Thus, a full factorial experimental design was carried out on a thin film of polyethylene terephthalate (thickness: 0.5 mm; surface: 50 mm × 50 mm). A negative corona discharge produced in a needle–grid–plate electrode system was employed to charge the surface of the film samples. The variation domains for the three factors were respectively: ?1000 V to ?1800 V; 25 to 55 °C; 50% to 80%. The surface-potential decay process was characterized by two output variables: the time needed for the potential to reduce to respectively 50% and 10% of the initial value. It was found that the former is more affected by the temperature, while the latter is more sensitive to the variation of the relative humidity.  相似文献

Corona discharge has a wide range of industry applications, such as charging the photosensitive layer and the toner particles in photocopying machines, modifying the wet-ability of plastic films, and conditioning the electrets for air filters. In all these situations, it is important to evaluate the surface charge density and compare it to the dielectric rigidity of atmospheric air. Experiments were carried out on 0.3 mm and 0.8 mm thick non-woven polypropylene fibrous media (average diameter of the fibres: 20 μm) that were exposed to positive corona discharges from a wire–grid–plate electrode system. The electrode system was powered from a continuously-adjustable DC high-voltage supply, employed as constant current generator. The monitored variable was the surface potential detected by the probe of an electrostatic voltmeter. The controlled variables were the potential of the grid electrode and the pre-conditioning temperature of the samples. The results of the experiments enabled a crude evaluation of each factor effect. Research should continue, using the experimental design methodology, in order to establish the optimum operating conditions.  相似文献

The main purpose of this study was to verify the feasibility of brain temperature mapping with high-spatial- and reduced-spectral-resolution magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI). A secondary goal was to determine the temperature coefficient of water chemical shift in the brain with and without internal spectral reference. The accuracy of the proposed MRSI method was verified using a water and vegetable oil phantom. Selective decrease of the brain temperature of pigs was induced by intranasal cooling. Temperature reductions between 2°C and 4°C were achieved within 20 min. The relative changes in temperature during the cooling process were monitored using MRSI. The reference temperature was measured with MR-compatible fiber-optic probes. Single-voxel 1H MRS was used for measurement of absolute brain temperature at baseline and at the end of cooling. The temperature coefficient of the water chemical shift of brain tissue measured by MRSI without internal reference was −0.0192±0.0019 ppm/°C. The temperature coefficients of the water chemical shift relative to N-acetylaspartate, choline-containing compounds and creatine were −0.0096±0.0009, −0.0083±0.0007 and −0.0091±0.0011 ppm/°C, respectively. The results of this study indicate that MRSI with high spatial and reduced spectral resolutions is a reliable tool for monitoring long-term temperature changes in the brain.  相似文献

Polycaprolactone (PCL) was grafted to TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose (TONCs) through a classical ring-opening polymerization reaction mediated by the surface TONC hydroxyl and carboxyl groups. The PCL increased the thermal stability and hydrophobicity without compromising the crystallinity. When TONCs and PCL-grafted TONCs (PTONC) were compared with respect to their perfusion within a segmented polyurethane matrix (CLPU), PTONC dispersed far better as evidenced by increased storage modulus and Young’s modulus. The mechanical strength of the PTONC nanocomposites was nearly that of unmodified TONCs while at a low content (<3 wt%). Furthermore, PTONC in CLPU promoted micro-phase separation of the matrix leading to a smaller decrease in loss factor and elongation at break for the nanocomposites, highly superior to unmodified TONCs. Thus, PTONC as a reinforcement agent enhanced the mechanical properties and ductility of CLPU.  相似文献
