The fluorescent protein aptly named "Killer Red" (KRed) is capable of killing transfected cells and inactivating fused proteins upon exposure to visible light in the presence of oxygen. We have investigated the source of the bioactive species through a variety of photophysical and photochemical techniques. The ability to laminate and delaminate top metal contacts during the processing and testing of inverted polymer solar cells has led us to uncover the peculiar dependence of their open-circuit voltage (V(oc)) on the annealing sequence. Specifically, thermally annealing inverted polymer solar cells having bulk-heterojunction photoactive layers after top electrode deposition above 100 °C leads to lower V(oc) compared to analogous devices with unannealed photoactive layers or photoactive layers that have been annealed prior to metal electrode deposition. This reduction in V(oc), however, can be reversed when the top electrodes are replaced. This observation is thus a strong indication that such changes in V(oc) with annealing sequence are manifestations of changes at the top electrode-photoactive layer interface, and not structural changes in the bulk of the photoactive layer. Electronic characterization conducted on the photoactive layers and metal contacts after dissection of the polymer solar cells via delamination suggests the reduction of V(oc) on thermal annealing in the presence of the metal top contacts to stem from an interfacial chemical reaction between the photoactive layers and the metal electrodes. This chemically generated interfacial layer is removed upon electrode delamination, effectively reverting the V(oc) to its original value prior to thermal annealing when the top electrodes are replaced. 相似文献

These earth abundant elements when loaded onto the TiO(2) nanopowders surface act as efficient co-catalysts. A novel diazaperinone 12H-pyrazino[2′,3′:3,4]pyrrolo[1,2-a]perimidin-12-one has been successfully synthesized through a one-step condensation. Single crystal X-ray analysis shows that the product is of planar structure with strong π?π interactions and H-bonding. Interestingly, the 12H-pyrazino[2′,3′:3,4]pyrrolo[1,2-a]perimidin-12-one can recognize three different metal cations Cu2+, Ag+ and Hg2+ via naked eye visualization, and shows turn-on fluorescence for Fe3+ and Ag+ among the 22 metal cations. 相似文献

Due to the rapidity of morphological development during deposition, solution-processed organic semiconductor thin films exist in semicrystalline or polycrystalline states, incorporating a high degree of local variations in molecular orientation compared to their single-crystal counterparts. Spherulites, a common crystalline superstructure found in these systems, for example, incorporate a large distribution of molecular orientations about the radial axis to maintain their space-filling growth habit. Here, we aim to determine how this distribution of molecular orientations influences charge transport by fabricating arrays of devices on single spherulites. Given that the orientation distribution that is present about the radial axis mandates the presence of low-angle grain boundaries within single spherulites, we find intraspherulitic charge transport to be independent of the general direction of π-stacking; organic field-effect transistors exhibit comparable mobilities regardless of how their channels are oriented with respect to the general π-stacking direction. 相似文献

We report a photoassisted method to magnetize microcrystal fullerene C(60) at room temperature by exciting it to triplet states via a proper laser radiation and then trapping the spin-polarized states under a strong magnetic field. Novel changes on Raman scattering of the C(60) microcrystals were observed in the presence and absence of the magnetic field. In particular, the Raman spectra were found to exhibit a "hysteresis" phenomenon when the external magnetic field was removed. In light of this, we propose magnetic-field-trapped Raman spectroscopy (MFTRS) and employ first-principle calculations to reproduce the Raman activities of C(60) at different states. Further, MFTRS of the fullerene is demonstrated to originate from its photoassisted magnetization (PAM). The PAM strategy enables the magnetization of materials which consist of only light elements; meanwhile, the MFTRS investigation may open a new research field in Raman spectroscopy. 相似文献

Electrospray-ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry is used to monitor higher order structural changes of polypeptides induced by alteration of the pH or organic solvent composition in the protein solution environment. A bimodal charge-state distribution is observed in the ESI mass spectrum of ubiquitin (relative molecular mass 8565) in solutions containing small amounts (less than 20%) of organic solvents. The distribution of peaks at high m/z (low-charge state) is found to represent the protein in its native, globular state; the higher-charge-state distribution is characteristic for a more extended conformation. Addition of methanol denaturant in excess of 40% v/v is needed to eliminate the low-charge-state distribution completely. Lesser amounts of acetonitrile, acetone, or isopropanol (approximately 20%) are required to denature the ubiquitin protein. Other proteins showing conformational effects in their ESI mass spectra are also illustrated. While the ESI spectra are related to solution phase structure, ESI-tandem mass spectrometry of multiply charged molecular ions of different conformation is suggested as a probe of gas-phase protein three-dimensional structure. 相似文献
