Alginate‐Based Microcapsules with a Molecule Recognition Linker and Photosensitizer for the Combined Cancer Treatment

A reactive template method was used to fabricate alginate‐based hydrogel microcapsules. The uniform and well‐dispersed hydrogel capsules have a high drug loading capacity. After they are coated by a folate‐linked lipid mixture on the surface, the capsules possess higher cell uptake efficiency by the molecule recognition between folate and the folate‐receptor overexpressed by the cancer cells. Moreover, in this bioconjugate, the lipid could remarkably reduce the release rate of hydrophilic doxorubicin from the hydrogel microcapsules and encapsulate the hydrophobic photosensitizer hypocrellin B. The biointerfaced capsules could be used as drug carriers for combined treatment against cancer cell proliferation in vitro; this was much more effective than chemotherapy or photodynamic therapy alone.     

Cu(OTf)2-Catalyzed 1,2,3-triazole-ring-controlled selective phenolic O–H bond methylthiomethylation

Copper-catalyzed selective methylthiomethylation of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole phenols using DMSO as a methylthiomethylation reagent was achieved. Controlled by the triazole ring, the ortho-phenolic hydroxyl in N(1) aryl can be selectively methylthiomethylated, generating functionalized 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles bearing aryl methylthiomethyl ether fragment.     

The Synthesis of 1,3-Bis(Phenylseleno)-2-Propanol

A general and efficient synthetic method of 1,3-bis(phenylseleno)-2-propanol by reducing diphenyl diselenides with sodium borohydride in basic environment and then reacting with epichlorohydrin are described.     

Theoretical study of electronic structure of rhodium mononitride and interpretation of experimental spectra

Potential energy curves of 22 electronic states of RhN have been calculated by the complete active space second‐order perturbation theory method. The X¹Σ₀⁺ is assigned as the ground state, and the first excited state a³Π₀+ is 978 cm^?1 higher. The ¹Δ(I) and B¹Σ⁺ states are located at 9521 and 13,046 cm^?1 above the ground state, respectively. The B¹Σ⁺ state should be the excited state located 12,300 cm^?1 above the ground state in the experimental study. Moreover, two excited states, C¹Π and b³Σ⁺, are found 14,963 and 15,082 cm^?1 above the X¹Σ⁺ state, respectively. The transition C¹Π₁–X¹Σ₀⁺ may contribute to the experimentally observed bands headed at 15,071 cm^?1. There are two excited states, D¹Δ and E¹Σ⁺, situate at 20,715 and 23,145 cm^?1 above the X¹Σ⁺ state. The visible bands near 20,000 cm^?1 could be generated by the electronic transitions D¹Δ₂–a³Π₁ and E¹Σ⁺₀–X¹Σ⁺₀ because of the spin–orbit coupling effect. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Efficient One-Pot Synthesis of Benzimidazoles Under Solvent-Free Conditions

A green, efficient method for the synthesis of various 2-aryl-benzimidazoles in the presence of hypervalent iodine as the oxidant at room temperature under solvent-free conditions is reported. The salient features of this method include mild conditions, short reaction times (3–5 min), excellent yields, and simple procedure.     

Chemoselective Removal of Acyloxy in 1-(Benzotriazole-1-yl)alkyl Esters and Its Application in the Preparation of β-(Benzotriazole-1-yl)alcohols

Mediated by samarium diiodide, 1-(benzotriazole-1-yl)alkyl esters 1 underwent cross-coupling with aldehydes or ketones to afford β-(benzotriazole-1-yl)alcohols 2 exclusively with the selective removal of acyloxy over benzotriazolyl.     

Reductive Coupling of Aldehydes,Ketones and Aroyl Chlorides Induced by LVT Prepared from TiCl4/Al System

Aluminium powder has been used to reduce titanium tetrachloride to generate the low valent titanium (LVT)reagent which can induce the reductive coupling of aldehydes and ketones to form the corresponding pinacols or olefins. However, arylsulfonyl chlorides will give diaryldisulfides under the same condition.     

Supramolecular organogelators based on Janus type AT nucleosides

J-AT nucleoside-based organogelators 1a and 1b were designed and synthesized. They were endowed with unparalleled superiority to natural nucleobase analogues 2–6 to gelate aromatic solvents due to their excellent self-assembly properties. The J-AT nucleoside-based organogelators showed a specific self-complementary base pair recognition characteristic. The gel stabilities of 1a and 1b were drastically influenced by adenine analogue 2, hardly affected by thymine analogue 3, uracil analogue 4, cytosine analogue 5, and mildly interrupted by guanine analogue 6.     

Zinc-Mediated Cyclodimerization of 1,5-Diaryl-1,4-pentadien-3-one in Aqueous Solution Under Ultrasound Irradiation

Synthesis of 2-cinnamoyl-1-styryl-3,4-diarylcyclopentanol via cyclodimerization of 1,5-diaryl-1,4-pentadien-3-one mediated by zinc was carried out in good yields at room temperature in NH₄Cl (aq.) and tetrahydrofuran under ultrasonic irradiation. In comparison with conventional methods, the main advantages of the present procedure are shorter reaction time and better yields.     

Diastereoselective Synthesis of γ-Butenolides Catalyzed by Potassium tert-Butoxide

Potassium tert-butoxide (0.1 mol%) catalyzed a vinylogous Mukaiyama aldol reaction between aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with 2-(trimethylsilyloxy)furan. The corresponding γ-butenolides were obtained in good yields with good diastereoselectivities.
