We have investigated the morphology and surface roughness of several commercially available microspheres to determine their suitability for force measurements using the atomic force microscope. The roughness varies considerably, depending on sphere size and material, ranging from nearly ideally flat up to micrometer-sized features. Because surface roughness significantly influences the magnitude and accuracy of measurement of surface forces, the results presented here should be helpful for colloid physicists and in particular for those performing force measurements.  相似文献

Storing molecular hydrogen in porous media is one of the promising avenues for mobile hydrogen storage. In order to achieve technologically relevant levels of gravimetric density, the density of adsorbed H2 must be increased beyond levels attained for typical high surface area carbons. Here, we demonstrate a strong correlation between exposed and coordinatively unsaturated metal centers and enhanced hydrogen surface density in many framework structures. We show that the MOF-74 framework structure with open Zn(2+) sites displays the highest surface density for physisorbed hydrogen in framework structures. Isotherm and neutron scattering methods are used to elucidate the strength of the guest-host interactions and atomic-scale bonding of hydrogen in this material. As a metric with which to compare adsorption density with other materials, we define a surface packing density and model the strength of the H(2-)surface interaction required to decrease the H(2)-H(2) distance and to estimate the largest possible surface packing density based on surface physisorption methods.  相似文献

Despite the extremely broad technical applications of the Si/SiO2 structure, the equilibrium wetting properties of silicon oxide on silicon are poorly understood. Here, we produce new results in which a solid-state buffer method is used to systematically titrate oxygen activity about the Si/SiO2 coexistence value. The equilibrium morphology at the Si(001) surface over >8 decades of PO2 about coexistence is revealed to be a uniform sub-stoichiometric SiOx film of sub-nanometer thickness, coexisting with secondary island structures which coarsen with annealing time. A new thermodynamic method using chemical potential to stabilize and control surficial oxides in nanoscale devices is suggested.  相似文献

An enantioselective synthesis of the halogenated medium-ring ether natural product (+)-obtusenyne is reported which uses the ring expansion of a seven-membered ketene acetal by means of a Claisen rearrangement to construct the core nine-membered oxygen heterocycle. The trans substituents across the ether linkage were established by using a transition-metal-catalyzed intramolecular hydrosilation reaction of an exo-cyclic enol ether. In addition, a formal synthesis of ent-obtusenyne from 2-deoxy-D-ribose is reported. A number of interesting points regarding the chemistry of medium-ring oxygen heterocycles are highlighted.  相似文献

Reacting MoO2(acac)2 with Ph2POOH or Me2POOH in EtOH results in the formation of the tetranuclear molybdenum (V) clusters Mo4(μ 3-O)4(μ-O2PR2)4O4, PR2 = PPh2, 1, or PMe2, 2, in functional yields (>90% and 55% respectively). The reaction of WO2(acac)2 with Ph2POOH in MeOH affords the tungsten dimer [(CH3O)2(O)W(μ-O)(μ-O2PPh2)2W(O)(CH3O)2], 3. The single crystal X-ray determined structures of complexes 1–3 are reported. In 1 and 2, the four Mo=O units are interconnected by four triply bridging oxygen atoms, resulting in a distorted cubic-like structure for the Mo4(μ 3-O)4O4 units. Each molybdenum atom forms two additional Mo–O bonds with two oxygen atoms from different adjacent phosphinato ligands. Complex 3, a tungsten dimer, contains packing disorder and consists of bridging oxo and diphenylphosphinato ligands. The bonding of 1 and 2 assessed by density-functional methods showed that bonding between the Mo(V) centers occurs through σ overlap of the d xy orbitals. Anharmonic and related constants have been calculated for CH2Cl2, CD2Cl2, and CHDCl2 by using the program Gaussian03 and B3LYP and MP2 models. Bases used were 6-311++G** and cc-pVTZ. The size of grid used in the B3LYP/6-311++G** model had a noticeable effect on resulting data. Features of the MP2/6-311++G** calculations suggested a deleterious effect of the absence of f functions in this basis set. The need for the replacement of second-order terms in the perturbation theory formulas for the vibrational anharmonic constants x ij in the presence of Fermi resonance was explored, and minor resonances were found associated with the cubic constants varphi 122 and varphi 299 (d 0 isotopomer), phi122 and phi849 (d2), and phi278 (d1). Computed xij values for nuCH and nuCD motions agree quite well with earlier experimental data. Observed anharmonic frequencies, nu obsd, were corrected to "observed" harmonic frequencies, omega obsd, by using computed differences Delta = omegaQC-nuQC. These differences Delta are larger for the antisymmetric nuasCH2 mode than for symmetric nusCH2 motion. This fact made it necessary to use differing scale factors for the two kinds of CH stretching force constants in a subsequent scaling of the harmonic force field to nuobsd. Force field scaling was also carried out by refining to omega obsd. In both approaches, the B3LYP models required differing scale factors for symmetric and antisymmetric CCl stretching force constants, indicating a failure to compute an accurate C-Cl stretch-stretch interaction force constant. The MP2/cc-pVTZ force field was preferred. Both scaled and unscaled harmonic force fields were used to calculate centrifugal distortion constants (CDCs) and contributions to the vibrational dependence of the rotational constants (alphas). Variations in the CDCs can, in part, be explained by the magnitudes of the frequencies used in the scaling process.  相似文献

Product channels for the self-reaction of the resonance-stabilized allyl radical, C3H5 + C3H5, have been studied with isomeric specificity at temperatures from 300-600 K and pressures from 1-6 Torr using time-resolved multiplexed photoionization mass spectrometry. Under these conditions 1,5-hexadiene was the only C6H10 product isomer detected. The lack of isomerization of the C6H10 product is in marked contrast to the C6H6 product in the related C3H3 + C3H3 reaction, and is due to the more saturated electronic structure of the C6H10 system. The disproportionation product channel, yielding allene + propene, was also detected, with an upper limit on the branching fraction relative to recombination of 0.03. Analysis of the allyl radical decay at 298 K yielded a total rate coefficient of (2.7 +/- 0.8) x 10(-11) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1), in good agreement with previous experimental measurements using ultraviolet kinetic absorption spectroscopy and a recent theoretical determination using variable reaction coordinate transition state theory. This result provides independent indirect support for the literature value of the allyl radical ultraviolet absorption cross-section near 223 nm.  相似文献

LiSc(BH4)4 has been prepared by ball milling of LiBH4 and ScCl3. Vibrational spectroscopy indicates the presence of discrete Sc(BH4)4(-) ions. DFT calculations of this isolated complex ion confirm that it is a stable complex, and the calculated vibrational spectra agree well with the experimental ones. The four BH4(-) groups are oriented with a tilted plane of three hydrogen atoms directed to the central Sc ion, resulting in a global 8 + 4 coordination. The crystal structure obtained by high-resolution synchrotron powder diffraction reveals a tetragonal unit cell with a = 6.076 A and c = 12.034 A (space group P-42c). The local structure of the Sc(BH4)4(-) complex is refined as a distorted form of the theoretical structure. The Li ions are found to be disordered along the z axis.  相似文献

A pump-probe laser-induced fluorescence technique has been used to examine the nascent OH X (2)Pi product state distribution arising from non-reactive quenching of electronically excited OH A (2)Sigma(+) by molecular hydrogen and deuterium under single-collision conditions. The OH X (2)Pi products were detected in v'=0, 1 and 2; the distribution peaks in v'=0 and decreases monotonically with increasing vibrational excitation. In all vibrational levels probed, the OH X (2)Pi products are found to be highly rotationally excited, the distribution peaking at N'=15 when H(2) was used as the collision partner and N'=17 for D(2). A marked propensity for production of Pi(A') Lambda-doublet levels was observed, while both OH X (2)Pi spin-orbit manifolds were equally populated. These observations are interpreted as dynamical signatures of the nonadiabatic passage of the OH + H(2)/D(2) system through the seams of conical intersection that couple the excited state (2 (2)A') and ground state (1 (2)A') surfaces.  相似文献

Experimental data on the stereoselectivity of base-catalyzed 1,2-elimination reactions that produce conjugated carbonyl compounds are scarce in spite of the importance of these reactions in organic and biochemistry. As part of a comprehensive study in this area, we have synthesized stereospecifically-deuterated beta-tosyloxybutanoate esters and thioesters and studied the stereoselectivity of their elimination reactions under non-ion pairing conditions. With the availability of both the (2R*,3R*) and (2R*,3S*) diastereomers the innate stereoselectivity could be determined unambiguously. (1)H and (2)H NMR data show that these substrates produce 5-6% syn elimination, the usual amount for acyclic substrates undergoing E2 reactions. Contrary to earlier suggestions, activation by a carbonyl group has virtually no influence upon the stereoselectivity. Elimination of the (2R*,3R*) diastereomer of the beta-tosyloxyester and thioester produces 21-25% of the (Z)-alkene, much more than observed with a poorer beta-nucleofuge. A relatively large amount of (Z)-alkene product seems to be a good marker for an E2 pathway, in which the transition state is E1cB-like, rather than an E1cB(irrev) mechanism. Syn KIE values were higher than those for anti elimination for the esters as well as the thioesters. Experimental challenges to the synthesis of stereospecifically-deuterated beta-tosyloxyesters are discussed.  相似文献
