Abstract

In his communication on the detection limits for thermal emission spectroscopy of metallic species in flame media, Fassel (1) attacks our previous statement that detection limits for Al, Be and Mo were available only for turbulent oxygen-supported hydrogen or acetylene flames. It should be borne in mind that he was referring to a preliminary communication (2) which naturally does not carry an extensive bibliography. It should also be noted that we were concerned, in context, with a comparison of the separated flame with conventional flames, not with highly unconventional flames such as those to which he refers. Whilst the point with which he takes issue was a very minor one, incorporated in our preliminary communication mainly as an “aside”, we firmly disagree with his observation. The flame he refers to (3) (4) is, in fact, a diluted oxy-acetylene flame which is supported by venting some air (and therefore nitrogen) to dilute the fuel-oxygen mixture. Fassel's communication (1) erroneously refers to this as a 'premixed oxy-acetylene flame', whereas elsewhere (5) it is described more correctly as an oxygen-nitrogen-acetylene flame. The burner he long-pathlength carbonaceous flames (10). They also allow more sensitive molecular emission spectroscopy of sulphur in an air-hydrogen flame (11), etc. We hope that this unfortunate correspondence will not distract attention from the main issue of our previous or previous preliminary communication on the separated nitrous oxide-acetylene flime.  相似文献

A time-domain 1H nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry method was elaborated for the rapid microstructural characterization of mozzarella cheese. For this purpose, there is a strong need to know how the experimentally determined T2 relaxation time distribution can be related to specific constituents in mozzarella. In this study, a detailed investigation is offered for fresh and aged low-moisture mozzarella cheese, often applied as a pizza cheese, by application of both a conventional Carr–Purcell–Meiboom–Gill (CPMG) sequence and a free-induction decay CPMG (FID-CPMG) sequence. The relaxation behavior was further elucidated by addition of deuterium oxide and by mild heat treatment of samples. The relaxation times of water protons in mozzarella were found to range from a few microseconds to some tens of milliseconds (in aged mozzarella) or to about hundred milliseconds (in fresh mozzarella). The upper limit of the T2 distribution can even be extended to the seconds range upon releasing water protons from the mozzarella matrix using a mild heat treatment or upon addition of deuterated water. Both stimuli also provided evidence for the absorption of water into the cheese matrix. The potential release and uptake of water demonstrated that mozzarella acts as a very dynamic system during production and storage. The detected differences in the behavior of the water fraction between fresh and aged low-moisture mozzarella might be utilized to study the influence of either production and/or storage conditions on the cheese ripening process.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with four to six rings are potent carcinogens. This study analyzed ten of the sixteen US EPA priority PAHs using reversed-phase liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) in selected reaction monitoring mode with two ionization sources: positive atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI+) or positive elecrtrospray ionization (ESI+) with tropylium post-column derivatization. Several factors were investigated, including mobile phases, stationary phases of columns and chromatographic temperature, to determine how optimal separation and sensitivity might be achieved. Methanol used as an organic mobile phase provided better sensitivities for most PAHs than acetonitrile, although some PAHs co-eluted. Acidic buffers did not increase analyte signals. Use of Restek Pinnacle II PAH columns (250 x 4.6 mm or 250 x 2.1 mm, 5 microm) with water/acetonitrile gradient at 27 degrees C made possible a good separation of the ten analytes. [M]+. were the best precursor ions in both APCI and ESI, although fluoranthene could not be detected in ESI mode when tropylium post-column derivatization was performed. [M-28]+ and [M-52]+ were the major product ions of PAHs after collision-induced dissociation, a result of neutral losses of C(2)H(4) and (C(2)H(2))(2), respectively. Chromatographic separation for PAH isomers was crucial because the mass spectra were so similar that even MS/MS could not distinguish them from each other. The recoveries of sample preparations of PAHs spiked onto air-sampling filters ranged between 77.5 and 106% with relative standard deviations between 1.1 and 15.9%. This method was validated by analyzing NIST SRM 1649a (urban dust), producing results comparable with the certified PAH concentrations. The detection limits using APCI and ESI interfaces, defined as three times the noise levels, ranged between 0.23 and 0.83 ng and between 0.16 and 0.84 ng of on-column injection, respectively.  相似文献

Tetrandrine (TET), a bisbenzylisoquinoline (BBI) alkaloid, is isolated from the plant Stephania tetrandra S. Moore and has a wide range of biological activity, including anticancer properties in vitro and in vivo. At first, we established a luciferase-expressing stable clone that was named GBM 8401/luc2 cells. Herein, the primary results indicated that TET reduced the total cell viability and induced cell apoptosis in GBM 8401/luc2 human glioblastoma cells. However, there is no available information showing that TET suppresses glioblastoma cells in vivo. Thus, we investigated the effects and mechanisms of TET on a GBM 8401/luc2 cell-generated tumor in vivo. After the tumor volume reached 100–120 mm3 in subcutaneously xenografted nude mice, all of the mice were randomly divided into three groups: Group I was treated with phosphate-buffered solution (PBS) containing 0.1% dimethyl sulfoxide, Group II with 25 mg/kg of TET, and Group III with 50 mg/kg of TET. All mice were given the oral treatment of PBS or TET by gavage for 21 days, and the body weight and tumor volumes were recorded every 5 days. After treatment, individual tumors, kidneys, livers, and spleens were isolated from each group. The results showed that TET did not affect the body weights, but it significantly decreased the tumor volumes. The TET treatment at 50 mg/kg had a two-fold decrease in tumor volumes than that at 25 mg/kg when compared to the control. TET decreased the total photon flux, and treatment with TET at 50 mg/kg had a lower total photon flux than that at 25 mg/kg, as measured by a Xenogen IVIS imaging system. Moreover, the higher TET treatment had lower tumor volumes and weights than those of the lower dose. The apoptosis-associated protein expression in the tumor section was examined by immunohistochemical analysis, and the results showed that TET treatment reduced the levels of c-FLIP, MCL-1, and XIAP but increased the signals of cleaved-caspase-3, -8, and -9. Furthermore, the hematoxylin and eosin (H & E) staining of kidney, liver, and spleen tissues showed no significant difference between the TET-treated and control groups. Overall, these observations demonstrated that TET suppressed subcutaneous tumor growth in a nude-mice model via the induction of cell apoptosis.  相似文献

In this study, adding CsPbI3 quantum dots to organic perovskite methylamine lead triiodide (CH3NH3PbI3) to form a doped perovskite film filmed by different temperatures was found to effectively reduce the formation of unsaturated metal Pb. Doping a small amount of CsPbI3 quantum dots could enhance thermal stability and improve surface defects. The electron mobility of the doped film was 2.5 times higher than the pristine film. This was a major breakthrough for inorganic quantum dot doped organic perovskite thin films.  相似文献

In this study, anion-selective exhaustive injection-sweeping (ASEI-sweeping) technique, which is a selective on-line sample concentration technique, was first proposed in microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) for analyses of eight acidic phenolic compounds. In contrast to a capillary that is typically filled with nonmicellar background solution in conventional ASEI-sweeping MEKC method, in the proposed ASEI-sweeping MEEKC method, a capillary is filled with a low pH microemulsion solution (pH 2.0), and then with a short acid plug (pH 2.0, 1.9 cm) before field-amplified sample injection. This proposed design has two functions. First, the microemulsion solution that is present at the front of capillary column is able to avoid phase separation of microemulsion solution during MEEKC separation. Second, the presence of the short acid plug would effectively limit the partition behavior of acid analytes with the oil droplets in the microemulsion during field-amplified sample injection; otherwise, the stacking effect of acid analytes would be markedly reduced. This optimal ASEI-sweeping MEEKC method afforded about 96,000-fold to 238,000-fold increases in detection sensitivity in terms of peak areas without any separation efficiency loss when compared to normal MEEKC separation. Furthermore, trace levels (about 3 ng/g) of gallic acid and catechin in foods were also detected successfully by the proposed ASEI-sweeping MEEKC technique.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3-D) detonation structure transformations from rectangular and diagonal modes into spinning modes in a narrow square tube are investigated by high-resolution simulation. Numerical simulations are performed with a Riemann solver of the HLLC-type, new cell-based structured adaptive mesh refinement data structure, high-order, parallel adaptive mesh refinement reactive flow code. A simplified one-step kinetic reaction model is used to reveal the 3-D detonation structure. The four different types of initial disturbances applied in the ZND profiles lead to the structures of rectangular in phase, rectangular out of phase, rectangular partial out of phase and diagonal, respectively, during the initial stages of detonation propagation. Eventually, all these detonation structures evolve into the self-sustained spinning detonations. The asymmetric disturbance leads to a stable spinning detonation much faster than the rest. The important features in the formation of spinning detonation are revealed using a 3-D visualization, and a remarkable qualitative agreement with experimental and numerical results is obtained with respect to the transverse wave dynamics and detonation front structures. The transverse wave collisions produce the unburnt gas pockets and the energy to sustain the detonation front propagation and distortion. The periodic pressure oscillation of front plays a complex role as it shifts the reaction zone structure with an accompanying change in the driving energy of transition and the detonation parameters which result in the more distorted front and the unstable detonation. Eventually, the unstable distorted detonation evolves into a spinning detonation.  相似文献
