Stability of Oligomeric α-Alkoxyhydroperoxides

The thermal decomposition of oligomeric -alkoxyhydroperoxides (I) is described by a first-order rate law and characterized by an activation energy equal to 19.7 kJ/mol. A chain mechanism and a rate law for this reaction are proposed. The effect of amine and phenolic stabilizers on decomposition is studied, the efficiency of phenolic stabilizers is examined, and the effective rate constant of the acid-catalyzed decomposition of compounds I is determined.     

Emulsion Polymerization of Styrene in the Presence of a Mixture of Potassium Stearate and Oleate

The features of emulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of a mixture of potassium stearate and oleate was studied. The effect of these salts on the polymerization rate and the yield and molecular weight of polystyrene was examined.     

Radiation degradation of spent butyl rubbers

Radiation methods of materials modification applied in technological chains can have significant economical and ecological advantages as compared to the established chemical, thermal and mechanical methods. Each year the problems of nature resources economy through the use of production and consumption wastes acquire a more significant value, as it allows to solve also ecological issues along with economical ones. This is mostly acute in relation to polymeric systems based on saturated rubbers, for example butyl rubber (BR) used in the tyre industry, as due to their high resistance to the action of oxygen, ozone, solar radiation and bacteria, they contaminate the environment for rather a long period. At VNIIEF and KSPU experiments were carried out on application of electron beams with energy from 6 to 10 MeV for radiation destruction of spent rubber based on BR. The radiation-degraded material was tested for re-use in the formulation of initial diaphragm mixture, rubber mixture for producing rubberized fabric and roofing.     

Urethane Formation in the Presence of Stabilizers

The kinetics of urethane formation was studied in relation to the stabilizer type. A series of urethane elastomers (sealants, coatings, adhesives), derived from stabilized prepolymers and polyoxyalkylenepolyols of various molecular weights, were developed.     

2,6-Bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)cycloalkanone: Synthesis and prospects for use as stabilizer for ethylene-propylene rubber

A phenolic antioxidant was synthesized by the reaction of N,N-dimethyl(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) amine with cyclohexanone. The infl uence of temperature, reactant ratio, pressure, and time on the yield of the product, 2,6-bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)cyclohexanone, was examined. The antioxidant obtained, taken both separately and in synergistic mixtures with alkylphenol and phosphites, showed high performance in inhibition of the thermal aging of ethylene-propylene rubber.
