The quasi-equilibrium electrochemomechanical behavior of relatively thick polyaniline films in sulfuric acid is investigated through experimental measurements and theoretical modeling. The leucoemeraldine (LE)-emeraldine (EM) conversion, or redox switching, is studied. The dependence of film volume and electrochemical charge is determined as a function of applied potential. It is observed that the film volume follows the charge, showing an expansion during the second half of the LE-EM oxidation. The model postulates the existence of a stable intermediate, protoemeraldine (PE), with a formal potential distribution for the PE-EM reaction. The volume change is modeled statistically considering contributions from mixing, polymer deformation, and electrostatic charge. The model shows very good agreement with the experiments, indicating that, in the conditions studied, the deformation contribution dominates the volume changes as a result of the conformational modifications undergone by the polymer in the PE-EM oxidation. 相似文献

In this work, we study long-range correlations in a “Scherzo-Duetto di Mozart” score (K-73x) for two violins. This is a fascinating piece, as the second violin part is upside down on the same sheet below the first violin, and some parts are like a palindrome. Given such ingenious structure, it is expected the existence of long-range correlations in the score structure. In order to quantify long-range correlations, we considered the music score as a sequence of integer numbers, each of them corresponding to last common denominator units of note. By using detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), correlations are quantified by means of the scaling exponent that reflects the type of correlations for a given distance between neighbors note. The following conclusions can be drawn from the analysis: (a) For about 10-25 neighbor note distances, correlations are similar to 1/f-noise. This is an interesting finding since it has been shown that pleasant sounds for humans display a behavior similar to 1/f noise. (b) As the neighbor note distance increases, the long-range correlations decays continuously. For some score sections, the music score behaves like non-correlated (i.e., purely random) noise. Summing up, the results show that the studied Mozart's score contains a certain degree of correlation for relatively small note distances, and becomes close to non-correlated behavior for long note distances. We considered also the sequence constructed by considering the distance between the simultaneously played notes of the two violins. Interestingly, for relatively small neighbor note distances, a scaling behavior similar to that found for individual violins is also displayed. In some sense, this is an expression of the specific structure (palindromes plus upside down construction) used by Mozart in the composition of this music score. Although we focused on a particular high-art music score, our results suggest that modern methods borrowed from statistical physics can be useful for the systematic study of music composition techniques. 相似文献

We report on parametric amplification in dynamic radiation force produced by a bichromatic acoustic beam in a fluid. To explain this effect we develop a theory taking into account the nonlinearity of the fluid. The theory is validated through an experiment to measure the dynamic radiation force on an acrylic sphere. Results exhibit an amplification of 66 dB in water and 80 dB in alcohol as the difference of the frequencies is increased from 10 Hz to 240 kHz. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and properties of novel extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from glucose (EPS 1) and crude glycerol (CG) from castor beans oil (EPS 2). Cupriavidus necator IPT 027 cultivated with glucose and CG (35 °C, 150 rpm, 72 hr, pH 7, shaker) produced approximately 1.60 ± 0.01 and 2.83 ± 0.02 g l?1 EPS, respectively, with high‐molecular weight (3.89 × 105 and 1.89 × 107 Da) and constituted of different functional groups such as uronic acid, monosaccharides (glucose, mannose, arabinose, and fucose) and primary amine group. The composition of the fermentable substrate influenced the melting temperature (221.11 and 230.18 °C), crystallinity (34.36% and 37.11%), degradation temperature (255.06 and 296.62 °C) and morphology. EPS showed pseudoplastic non‐Newtonian fluid behavior in the aqueous solutions, presenting potential applicability biotechnological and industrial mainly in food industry as emulsifiers and biosurfactants. This is the first study on the production and characterization of EPS obtained by C. necator IPT 027 in culture with glucose and CG. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献
