Metallocyclopentadienyl derivatives of bivalent samarium,europium and ytterbium

It has been established that the reaction of metallocyclopentadienyl mercurials with an excess of elemental lanthanides Ln(Ln = Sm, Eu, Yb) in tetrahydrofuran yields substituted cyclopentadienyl derivatives of the metals.     

Clifford Wavelet Entropy for Fetal ECG Extraction

Analysis of the fetal heart rate during pregnancy is essential for monitoring the proper development of the fetus. Current fetal heart monitoring techniques lack the accuracy in fetal heart rate monitoring and features acquisition, resulting in diagnostic medical issues. The challenge lies in the extraction of the fetal ECG from the mother ECG during pregnancy. This approach has the advantage of being a reliable and non-invasive technique. In the present paper, a wavelet/multiwavelet method is proposed to perfectly extract the fetal ECG parameters from the abdominal mother ECG. In a first step, due to the wavelet/mutiwavelet processing, a denoising procedure is applied to separate the noised parts from the denoised ones. The denoised signal is assumed to be a mixture of both the MECG and the FECG. One of the well-known measures of accuracy in information processing is the concept of entropy. In the present work, a wavelet/multiwavelet Shannon-type entropy is constructed and applied to evaluate the order/disorder of the extracted FECG signal. The experimental results apply to a recent class of Clifford wavelets constructed in Arfaoui, et al. J. Math. Imaging Vis. 2020, 62, 73–97, and Arfaoui, et al. Acta Appl. Math. 2020, 170, 1–35. Additionally, classical Haar–Faber–Schauder wavelets are applied for the purpose of comparison. Two main well-known databases have been applied, the DAISY database and the CinC Challenge 2013 database. The achieved accuracy over the test databases resulted in Se = 100%, PPV = 100% for FECG extraction and peak detection.     

The Ideal Index of Subalgebras of a Finite Dimensional Lie Algebra

D. A. Towers introduced the notion of ideal index of a maximal subalgebra of a Lie algebra, and used it to analyze the influence of maximal subalgebras on the structure of a finite dimensional Lie algebras.

In this article, we generalize the ideal index from maximal subalgebras to all subalgebras, and obtain some new characterizations of solvable and supersolvable Lie algebras by the ideal indices of some certain subalgebras.     

Design of a practical fluorescent probe for superoxide based on protection-deprotection chemistry of fluoresceins with benzenesulfonyl protecting groups

A strategy for designing probes based on protection-deprotection chemistry involving fluoresceins and their benzenesulfonyl (BES) derivatives has led to the development of a much more practical superoxide (O(2) (-.)) probe than the previously reported bis(2,4-dinitro-BES) tetrafluorofluorescein (6 a). Examination of various BES derivatives, developed from the starting point of the prototype probe 6 a, yielded 4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitro-BES tetrafluorofluorescein (BESSo; 7 j) as the optimal reagent. A microtiter plate assay with BESSo showed a tenfold improved detection limit for O(2) (-.) compared with such an assay based on 6 a. BESSo showed markedly better specificity for O(2) (-.) than for GSH or other reactive oxygen species, and this specificity was significantly higher than that of Fe(2+) and some reducing enzymes. These features have resulted in the development of an assay based on BESSo that is capable of providing more unambiguous results for O(2) (-.) release from neutrophils, with or without stimulation by phorbol myristate acetate, as compared with an assay based on 6 a. Intracellular generation of O(2) (-.) in human Jurkat T cells stimulated by butyric acid has been measured by using flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy utilizing the acetoxymethyl derivative of BESSo.

A Kiyooka aldol approach for the synthesis of the C(14)-C(23) segment of the diastereomeric analog of tedanolide C

The challenging synthesis of a quaternary center within the highly oxygenated setting of tedanolide C can be performed via a Kiyooka aldol reaction. Here, the diastereomeric analog of tedanolide C with the configurations between C10 and C20 opposite compared to the proposed structure was chosen as the synthetic target. The tetra-substituted silyl ketene acetal provides the southern hemisphere of tedanolide C in useful selectivities, and the absolute configuration of the newly generated quaternary center was determined by NOE experiments of the corresponding acetonide.     

Proteomic assessment of a cell model of spinal muscular atrophy

Background  

Deletion or mutation(s) of the survival motor neuron 1 (SMN1) gene causes spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a neuromuscular disease characterized by spinal motor neuron death and muscle paralysis. Complete loss of the SMN protein is embryonically lethal, yet reduced levels of this protein result in selective death of motor neurons. Why motor neurons are specifically targeted by SMN deficiency remains to be determined. In this study, embryonic stem (ES) cells derived from a severe SMA mouse model were differentiated into motor neurons in vitro by addition of retinoic acid and sonic hedgehog agonist. Proteomic and western blot analyses were used to probe protein expression alterations in this cell-culture model of SMA that could be relevant to the disease.     

Cross-diffractive optical elements for wide angle geometric camera calibration

Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) can generate multiple two-dimensional (2D) diffraction grids that can be used to calibrate cameras for photogrammetry. However, several factors limit the accuracy and the functionality of this technique. One of the most important is the DOE fabrication itself. A large DOE with wide 2D fan-out grids is very difficult and costly to develop. Consequently, the calibration is limited to small aperture cameras and/or limited angles. To overcome these problems, we present a low cost solution. We propose to use two large, commercially available, crossed phase DOEs that generate 15×15 equally spaced dots. As the DOEs are not perfect, the unwanted secondary diffractive orders are used as calibration targets to expand the calibration field of view. We show that the use of the primary and secondary diffractive orders provides a valuable calibration tool for wide angle aerial cameras.     

99mTc-labeling of a dithiocarbamate-DWAY fragment using [99mTcN]2+ core for the preparation of potential 5HT1A receptor imaging agents

1-(2-methoxy phenyl) piperazine fragment of WAY100635 or its phenolic analogue, derived from DWAY is used to design the desired structure of 5HT_1A receptor imaging agents. In this study a DWAY analogue was labeled with ^99mTc-nitrido ([^99mTcN]²⁺) core via dithiocarbamate. 2-(piperazin-1-yl) phenol dithiocarbamate was synthesized by the reaction of 2-(piperazin-1-yl) phenol with an equivalent amount of carbon disulfide in KOH solution then radiolabeled with ^99mTc-nitrido core. The final complex was characterized by HPLC and its radiochemical purity was more than 90 %. In vitro stability studies have shown the complex was stable at least 4 h after labeling at room temperature. The n-octanol/water partition coefficient experiment demonstrated log p = 1.34 for ^99mTcN–OHPP–DTC. Biodistribution results showed that radio tracer had moderate brain uptake (0.39 ± 0.03 %ID/g at 15 min and 0.29 ± 0.02 %ID/g at 120 min) and good retention, suggesting that this complex may lead to a further development of a radiotracer with specific binding to 5-HT_1A receptor.
