Single chain force spectroscopy - Reading the sequence of HP protein models

We study the elastic properties of single A/B random copolymer chains, with a specific sequence and use them as theoretical model for so called HP proteins. HP proteins carry hydrophilic (P) and hydrophobic (H) monomers. We predict a rich structure in the force-extension relations which can be attributed to the information in the sequence. The variational method is used to probe local minima on the path of stretching and releasing for the chain molecules. At a given force, we find multiple configurations which are separated by energy barriers. A collapsed globular configuration consists of several domains which unravel cooperatively. Upon stretching, the unfolding path shows a stepwise pattern corresponding to the unfolding of each domain. While releasing, several cores can be created simultaneously in the middle of the chain, resulting in a different path of collapse. The long-range interactions and stiffness of the chain simplify the potential landscape given by the disorder in sequence. Torsion Structure in Riemann-Cartan Manifold and Dislocation

The U(1) gauge structure of torsion and dislocation in three dimensional Riemann-Cartan manifold have been studied. The local topological structure of dislocation have been presented by so-called topological method in which the quantum number is by Hopf indices and Brouwer degree. Furthermore, the relationship between the dislocation lines and Wilson lines of the U(1) gauge theory is discussed by using the Chern-Simons theory.     

Theoretical and Experimental Driving-Point Impedance Results of Resonance Circuits in a Gunn Waveguide Oscillator

The frequency tuning range of waveguide oscillator and its stability depend sensitively on the dimension of the resonance cap. Therefore the driving-point impedances with the various dimensions of the resonance cap are calculated by using HFSS(High Frequency Simulation System). In this paper the comparisons between theoretical results of the driving-point impedances as a function of frequency and that of experimental results are described. The oscillation frequency range could be predicted by using the theoretical evaluation methods which are proposed. It shows that resonance cap size and disc height have an effect on the frequency tuning characteristics of Gunn oscillator.
