Complexation of chitosan with acetic acid according to Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy data

The results of the interaction between the protonated chitosan (CHI) macromolecule and the acetate ion in dilute acetic acid solutions were studied by Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy and quantum-chemical modeling. The complexation of CHI with the acetate ion showed itself as the 934 cm^?1 band in the Raman spectrum, which suggests the formation of [CHI⁺ · CH₃COO^?] type ion pairs. It was concluded that a comparative analysis of the integrated intensities of the Raman bands in the range 880–940 cm^?1 makes it possible to judge about the relative content of hydrated acetate ions, CHI macromolecules of the [CHI⁺ · CH₃COO^?] complex, and acetic acid molecules not involved in CHI protonation.

As show the data of IR spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations (B3LYP/6-311+G**), N-(silylmethyl)anilines PhNHCH₂SiMe _n (OEt)_3?n in inert media have an intramolecular hydrogen bond NH?OSi. N-[(Trimethylsilyl)methyl]aniline PhNHCH₂SiMe₃ in inert solvents exists as a mixture of two conformers close in energy.     

Phase Modulation Microscope MIM-2.1 for Measurements of Surface Microrelief. Results of Measurements

The construction and technical characteristics of the phase interferometric microscope MIM-2.1 are described. With the help of this modulation interferometric microscope, a vertical resolution up to fractions of a nanometer and a lateral resolution up to tens of nanometers are achieved. The results of measurements obtained on samples of different types, such as a column, a step, a flute, and a fragment of a DVD disk, are presented.     

Search for cluster decay of114Ba

A search for the¹²C decay of¹¹⁴Ba produced in the⁵⁸Ni(⁵⁸Ni,2n) reaction was performed by using polycarbonate track detectors. Assuming the total half-life of¹¹⁴Ba to be 0.1 s, the lower limit T _c ≥10³ s for the partial¹²C-decay half-life was established.
