A new liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technique is described that utilizes a particle beam interface to transport and deposit desolvated analyte molecules onto a target surface that is bombarded by a primary beam of massive multiply charged glycerol cluster ions to generate secondary ions for mass analysis. The massive cluster ion beam is generated by electrohydrodynamic emission from a solution of 1. 5-M ammonium acetate in glycerol. In the present instrumental configuration the massive cluster ion gun is placed above the target probe and the particle beam interface is connected through a side port of the mass spectrometer. The massive cluster ion beam and particle beam are intercepted by a target surface substituted for a conventional ion volume. The target surface is positioned such that it is ~ 45 ° to the primary cluster ion beam, the particle beam, and the mass analyzer axis. This geometric orientation represents a compromise among the performances of these three elements. The feasibility of this liquid chromatography-particle beam on-line with massive cluster impact is demonstrated by flow injections of acetylcholine chloride and gramicidin S. Spectra generated from this preliminary study indicate promise for routine liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry of polar compounds by using a robust inlet and an effective generation of secondary ions without an added matrix. 相似文献

We have developed an analytical method for detection of239Pu in aqueous samples at concentrations as low as 10–10M. This nuclear counting technique utilizes the uranium L X-rays, which follow the alpha-decay of plutonium. Because L X-rays are specific for the element and not for the individual isotope, the isotopic composition of the plutonium sample must be known. The counting efficiency in the 11–23 keV range is determined from a plutonium standard, and the concentration of the sample is then calculated from the L X-ray count and the isotopic composition. The total L X-ray count is corrected for possible contributions from other radionuclides present as impurities by measuring the low-energy gamma-spectrum for each contaminant to establish specific photon/X-ray ratios. The ratios are important when241Pu and242Pu are measured, because the respective decay chain members produce non-U L X-rays. This new method can replace the use of labor-intensive radiochemical separation techniques and elaborate activation methods for analysis of239Pu in aqueous samples. In the experiment, the ring-closing metathesis (RCM) product could not be found, while the cross-metathesis (CM) products were found. The computational studies provided consistent explanations for the experimental result. Photoirradiation of Os3(CO)10(C14H20) (1) in n-hexane produces the double-decker cluster [Os3(CO)9(C28H40)] [Os3(CO)10] (7), which can also be prepared from the reaction of Os3(CO)9(C28H40) (2) and Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2. Further reaction of 7 with Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2 affords the triple-decker cluster [Os3(CO)9(C28H40)][Os3(CO)10]2 (8). The bis(diyne) complex Os3(CO)8(C14H20)2 (3) reacts with Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2 sequentially to yield the double-decker cluster [Os3(CO)8(C14H20)2][Os3(CO)10] (4) and the triple-decker cluster [Os3(CO)8(C14H20)2][Os3(CO)10]2 (5). Treatment of 3 with Co2(CO)8 at room temperature leads to the mixed-metal triple-decker cluster [Os3(CO)8(C14H20)2][Co2(CO)6]2 (6), while the reaction of 2 and Co2(CO)8 produces [Os3(CO)9(C28H40)][Co2(CO)6]2 (9) and [Os2(CO)6(C28H40)][Co2(CO)6]2 (10).
